I doubt Apple is holding a special Chinese event to announce a champagne colored phone. Most likely this is to announce a China Mibile deal.

I stand corrected then. Ok, you heard it here folks. A Chinese Mobile Deal. It'll definitely brighten everyone's day. :)

Prediction

Going out on a limb and making a iPhone 5C prediction. It will be China only! NO US.

No, cannibalization of the high-end model by low-end models (iPhone 4 vs. iPhone 5) is a worldwide trend. Even in the US the iPhone 4 is still very popular, much more popular than the 3GS ever was in its hay days.

Yes I know that, but think about the iPad Mini, Apple did choose to cannibalize some of the full-sized iPad's sales but they still turned out to be success.

To be clear, I'm not saying that based on any first hand knowledge. Just a guess on my part, especially seeing Apple stock up 2% today.

I hope its an animation of the last episode of Mysterious Cities of Gold, because I missed the last episode when I was a kid and this would be the perfect opportunity to catch up by flicking through the invites.

Mysterious cities of gold.....coloured iPhone!

It's all starting to make sense, SENSE I TELLS YA!!

ahem. If anyone wants me I'll be in the basement crafting a hat from tin foil.

Finally, China Mobile for sure. I wonder which side gives in more after so many years of negotiation...

I predict the iPhone 5C will be China exclusive (unfortunately) and the rest of the world will only get the 5S. It's the only way a separate China keynote the day after makes sense.

This. I don't see any other point to a secondary event if the 5C is not a China exclusive device.

iPhone 5Cheap!

Does that make every product Apple have produced cheap then? Aluminium is the cheapest metal after all. Why no titanium MacBook.

Yep....thats how childish, stupid and repetitive the silly 'cheap' argument is. Grow up.

The China Mobile deal is a big thing - that would most certainly get its own announcement.

The iPhone coming to the largest carrier in the (now second biggest) and soon to be biggest smart phone market in the world absolutely merits a separate event.

Hmmm, colored shell phones. Might be a waste here in the US given the basic course taken after you buy the product and rush to protect it with an outer cover. :D Maybe this is not a concern in the Chinese market?

Hmmm, wouldn't it be interesting if the new "C" iPhone is meant only for the Chinese market. I hope I'm blowing smoke but I recall China Mobile's non negotiable demands about branding and tight control of apps. I really don't think Cupertino would bend to CM's demands without some give-and-take, but if Apple wants the largest market in the world......

Apple really are all about the money.

Show me any for-profit business that's not "all about the money" and I'll bet they'll be out of business within five years.

Apple is not in business to be a charity. They're in business to pay engineers to design products that people want to buy in droves -- thereby netting the company more money. They can then use that money to invest in future design, reward their employees and executives for jobs well done, and save a huge stockpile for acquisitions or however else they see fit.

If you don't like Apple's business practices or their products, don't give them your money. Simple as that.

C is for complaints

I think the iPhone 5C is designed to correct two of Wall Street's biggest complaints against Apple:

1) Falling market share worldwide

2) lower margins

Making an iPhone 5C that will have appeal to China Mobile fixes #1. Selling the 5C in the States and in Europe (where they previously would have had to sell the iPhone 5 at a lower price) fixes #2.

Also, if Tim Cook wants to have more iPhone sales in Apple stores (from a previous rumor a couple of months ago), I think some of these colors (for the 5C and 5S) might only be available through Apple worldwide (either online or retail.)

Just my hunch.

Then why are the colours on the American invite, which are alluding to the iPhone 5C?

I think it will just be a recap of the American event, to focus on the Chinese market. I have no doubt the 5C was designed with the Chinese market in mind, but Apple would be crazy not to use it worldwide. Especially with the recession here in Europe there is a lot of focus on price, and because Google is also dropping prices.

I think the 5C is the answer to the Nexus 4.

Well the colours could be simply related to iOS 7 since they talked about it being colourful during the WWDC keynote. But I agree that Apple should release 5C worldwide, they'd be stupid not to. But still, the media event in US might not focus on 5C and the one in China might.

Announcement yes, media event? No. What are they going to talk about in a 1.5 hour media event?
