Apple cannot even get security updates right. Mine went to a blank screen after I selected the update. Went back to General and selected updates again and it showed the update being downloaded. This is what happens when one starts relying on the poorly implemented SwiftUI library.

I had my brother check on his iPhone 13 mini, it is not there.
It’s showing up on my wife’s 12 mini. Make sure he’s scrolling down on the whole page and not just the text box describing 26. What I can’t seem to do is update via iTunes as I prefer non vector updates. Ill see if I can find a guide for previous versions, maybe someone figured this out already. But beggars can’t be choosers.

apple should make IPSW's available for all versions of the software than can run on your phone. for example, my iPhone 13 originally shipped with iOS 15. there is no reason I shouldn't be able to install 15, 16, 17, 18 or 26. I'd go back to 17 if I could

Especially true once things become super vintage and one might just want to put old/OG versions on a given device.

build number this time is 22H340

although the 18.7.7 released on march 24 for the XR and XS was same version number the build number back then was 22H333
My XS Max has the original 18.7.7 from last month. Trying to update to the new 18.7.7 and it’s failing in the verification process stating verification temporarily unavailable. Anyone else see this failure?

Updated, then switched back to iOS 18 beta stream to get rid of the 26 update notification. Running great!

I wonder if this is Apple silently acknowledging they f-ed up a bit when liquid glass, and we might see some refinements to make it better in iOS 27? I really hope so. I do eventually want to move forward; can't stay behind forever and at some point I'll be replacing this phone!

I'm sure Apple will refine the new UI. iOS 7 went way too far into minimalism (barely readable fonts and super inefficient use of screen space) and we saw several refinements with each new update.

Same. My guess is that you are on the latest version already. Delete the download and you’re good to go. This download imo is meant for those who can update to iOS 26.

They forgot to sign the new build 22H340(18.7.7), right now it is only possible to update to 22H333(18.7.7) for Xr, Xs, Xs Max using .ipsw file

It might depend on what iPhone model you have, but on my iPhone 13 there is pretty much zero Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.7.7. I don't think you have much to worry about.

Edit: Anything below a 15 Pro does not have Apple Intelligence.
great point reason077, thank you
Yep, I was so glad my 15+ was at that cusp. It does not have any of the AI stuff on it. I did check again after the 18.7.7 update just to make sure. However, my iPad Pro M4 does have the AI load, but I keep it disabled.
so fatlouie, when you check the version of 18.7.7 you're running, it doesn't have the apple intelligence option at all, not just turned off, but not even there?

so am i to understand that there are different versions of iOS 18, one for apple intelligence compatible hardware devices and one for non-compatiable hardware devices?

On the 15+, I could not find anything Apple Intelligence; usually, it is coupled with Siri in Settings. On the iPad Pro M4, in Settings, there is the "Apple Intelligence & Siri" setting. Both devices are on 18.7.7.

As I recall, the 15+ is excluded from AI due to memory limitations.

I discovered this the hard way, after multiple failures to update my XS from 17.7.x to 18.7.7.

First multiple failed OTA updates, then a failed IPSW update because it wouldn't verify, was unavailable, or other excuse.

Urgent, backported update, encourage everyone to do so, but fail to make sure it actually works, including the most powerful Sword of Damocles it hangs over users.

Good thing the phone just serves in a backup role.

Edit: Works now. Feel free to try again.

My main concern aside from UI and UX arise from the battery life impact. I'm not ready to sacrifice my phone's battery life for 'supposed' and mostly unneeded features and 'security threats'. Those have been around since the Superman died. They should release some 26-only hardware that I wouldn't be able to live without and then and only then I'd consider my options. I am fine with battery life I'm having at the moment on iOS 18 and it goes just fine with Sequoia.

They won’t. As soon as people forget about this it will be back to the old policy. Apple never uses a carrot when a stick will do.
I got 18.7.8.
