How does a gay couple reproduce?

- They don't

Reason why it needs to be illegal^

So, the elderly shouldn't be allowed to get married? And what about those who are unable or unwilling to reproduce? Illegal also?

You are seriously going to advocate taking a fertility test before being issued a marriage license? And making those who are given a license promise to have children? Ridiculous.

I'm gay and I have 2 children....Am I allowed to get married now?

Let me get this straight.

Its wonderful and praiseworthy when Apple releases a statement in support of gay rights, but when Chik-Fil-A releases a statement supporting marriage between a man and a woman they are picketed and boycotted.

Before I get quoted and bashed, I believe that "rights" should not be associated to the institution of marriage in the first place.

The institution of marriage goes back much further than 2,000 years my friend, long pre-dating biblical times. How about you study up a bit?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage#History_of_marriage

Did I say marriage is 2000 years old? No. I was talking about the Bible. That's what they're basing this Anti-Gay marriage off. It's the "Go to" book for protesters trying to justify it.

How does the fact that Marriages have been around since before the Bible help prove your case?

What?

What does that have to do with anything? People can reproduce (or not) regardless if they are married or not, it's a non-issue.

If you want to join the discussion (on either side), at lease provide logical arguments instead of willy-nilly red herrings...

Apple really should keep their mouths shut on political issues, as should all businesses. Employees are free to have their opinions, but they need not project those opinions onto the brand.

Apple should do whatever APPLE chooses to do. Are you the CEO? No. Tim Cook is, the gay, hand-picked successor to Steve Jobs. Therefore, I have no problem with what he says whatsoever. It was good enough for Tim, and good enough for Steve, so if they want to support their hundreds, if not thousands of gay employees, then frankly, you are the one who should keep a shut mouth.

Reproduction is not, nor never has been the main reason for marriage.

Marriage = commitment. Commitment that two people are vowing to spend the rest of their lives together because they love eachother enough to not want to be with anyone else.

How does a gay couple commit to each other?

The same way straight couples do.

That's the reason why DOMA and Prop. 8 needed to go, as well as any other ban on gay marriage.

BL.

How does an infertile couple reproduce? How does an elderly couple reproduce? How does a soldier who has had his dick blown off reproduce? Are you suggesting fertility tests and a signed undertaking to reproduce as a precondition of marriage?

I am not for gay marriage but who am I and who is the US Gov to have anything to do with this. Government has no place in sanctifying a marriage.

Apple too should shut the hell up.

What does a church have the say on marriage then? They didn't invent it!
The Government has a say because they are the ones who are supposed to be protecting their citizens rights, like hey the right to be married to the person of your choice.

What's confusing about supporting a company who supports civil rights and boycotting a company who doesn't?

And for the record, there are plenty of people who will be chastising Apple. Chick-Fil-A also garnered praise and support for their views (unfortunately).

How does a infertile straight couple reproduce? They don't. If you do not like our Constitution, I will be more than happy to help pack your bags and get you a one way ticket to Iran or China.

Today marks a further step in civil rights in the U.S. It's a shame that many other first world countries recognize same sex marriage on a federal level and we have lagged behind, throwing the issue to states as politicians want to dodge such a hot button issue. It's time to be a leader in civil rights for everyone.

Hatred wrapped in convenient religious dogma has to end. Religion has had a choke hold on social policy for far too long. Separation of church and state.

Noticed the four opposing SCJ's were conservative men. Eat it.

My opinion is shared by the first commenter. Apple as a company should not weigh in on political stances. Another commenter said Apple should as it impacts their employees.

The article states Apple has provided benefits to couples before it was mandated by law.

I think Apple should offer company policy changes that create equality for employees and it's a win win. They don't set a public stance on political issues and employees will want to work for them since all are treated equally.

Chik-Fil-A's opposition, just like all opposition to marriage equality was rooted in hate and bigotry.

If it were the 1950s, and Apple released a statement in support of interracial marriage, and Chik-Fil-A was opposed to it, would we even be having this conversation? No, because anyone with a brain would know that Chik-Fil-A was clearly in the wrong, run by a bunch of bigots, and would not be comparing them to Apple.

I wonder what would happen were I to have a dissenting opinion on this topic? It usually seems that popular opinion loves tolerance so long as it matches their own views.

In any case, it isn't surprising Apple supports this as they have been doing similar for over 20 years. And I'm not against Apple having an opinion as a corporate body. It's just that not everyone agrees with these things and they deserve a voice, too.

This whole mess is why I think we should follow the model of several European countries, where the government performs civil unions, which grants all the legal rights, but marriage is left to the church.

So much this.

It is not a political issue. How could it be? That would be like saying that most Republicans are homophobic bigots - and that can't be true.

This isn't about reproducing. This isn't the church or the 17th century. It's about equality, love, and happiness. Everyone should be about to pursue these no matter if they're gay or straight. I'm not gay and I may not understand it fully, but I know many people who are gay, and frankly they're some of the greatest people I know. Who is anyone to intrude on their pursuit to happiness? It's about Equality. Not reproduction. Period.

So separate but equal? For the record, not all first world countries do so, they recognize gay marriage not civil unions.

When can I have a say on who you can marry and what rights should be given to you? Marriage isn't just a name, it provides benefits to couples that civil unions lack. Stop playing the victim.
