I'm actually tired of Final Cut Pro 7, Soundtrack Pro, and Motion 4 crashing on an i7 27" iMac. If this release can solve that then for me I'm happy. Features are worthless if you have to keep restarting your projects over and over.

hmmm..

I wonder if Apple is heading downhill with their software now?

Apple removed advanced features and made the program more user-friendly - advanced users didn't like it...

Luckily, there are more average users than advanced users, so I'd say they're heading uphill - the article was just presented in an anti-apple, sensationalist manner.

Good on Apple. However, I'm sure they expected an angry backlash after removing so many professional features. It's clear that Apple feel that the increase in sales from consumer filmmaker enthusiasts will outweight the loss in sales from professionals.

I imagine that's where they're going. I don't fault them for it either. It would have been nice to give some of their most faithful some notice or sign (although price was a pretty good indicator)

Maybe they just shouldn't have released it until it was more feature complete. Problem Avoided.

Or if you have to release it, just be honest about what's excluded. Instead you enjoy posting record MAS sales and then end up with a huge backlash

Imagine Adobe releasing Photoshop CS6, a complete rewrite of the software, you cannot open all of your PSD file, your plugins don't work anymore, CMYK and lab are gone and Adobe doesn't understand why pro are complaining.

Agreed. Had Adobe done what you described above, the macrumors zealots would have smelled blood and gone on and on about how lazy Adobe is.

Or for a lot of people, buying 1 seat was their research. Apple could've probably prevented a lot of backlash by offering trials to bigger customers through their representatives.

secrecy in the enterprise environment is exactly why I dont use their software for my small photography biz.

I agree. Apple seems to be using a few apologist bloggers in an attempt to quiet the angst.

There are indeed paid shills for Apple and its competitors who post fervently. It's funny to read posts from apologists who have no dog in the fight just defend anything apple does though. It's remarkable to behold.

I have to say, the excuse of this being a rewrite that took as long as it did and be lacking the major features that made Final Cut Pro the great program that it has become in the industry is just unacceptable. To me there is no excuse for that unless they had programmers that have never used the previous versions. In my opinion, Apple seems to have focused all their attention on their portable devices and have put their pro devices in the "Hobby" department along with Apple TV. I only own a Mac because of Final Cut Pro and have absolutely loved it. I doubt I'll be able to afford the $5,000 system it will take to run the new version efficiently for a while anyway, so I'll stick with my reliable FCS2 version.

This entire rewrite copout is indeed ridiculous. Yes they will not include everything and there will be bugs, but it appears that unhappy customers have legitimate complaints about omitted obligatory functionalities.

Seriously, why the rush to upgrade to a "V 1.0" program? If the older FCS is working for you, use it and keep an eye on how this product matures or fails to mature. Let others suffer as beta testers!

I knew this was coming, but am surprised that it fell upon their Final Cut Pro line of products.

The per-request refunds is indirect admission that they made a subpar product, Apple is so arrogant that they'll do everything they can to avoid saying that they made a mistake. A lot of it has to do with how the company doesn't really care about what you as users think, your opinions don't matter. It's either you take it or leave it. In that sense they're making the same mistakes Microsoft did with their early version of Windows.

There's a huge community that supports and uses Final Cut Pro, many pro-sumers and full blown professionals. What they did with Final Cut Pro X was made a Final Cut Lite Edition that lacked full support of the previous version features.

Next they made an even bigger mistake, fix what was not broken. If it works and everyone is fine with it, why change it so radically? To me it seems that either some software coder got his/her way and/or someone got bored of the interface and wanted something completely different.

The latest article says Apple will release features on a later date however that sounds to me like they knowingly pushed out the product way sooner than it should have.

Just my 0.02
