The features we want? How many people who JB are doing it for themes and multitasking? There may be a few here and there, but I'd say 90% of people who jailbreak their devices do it to steal from the developers.

I hate it when people make up numbers in order to make a point.

What I enjoy the most is when the government pokes their fingers into something like this when our entire national is falling into a rapidly sinking hole. Talk about our tax dollars being used for stupidness....

also glad to see our govt. support piracy...

Bs

Yeah, its because of user experience. hahahahahahaha what ****... apple just wants to control what every device can do so they can control the market and get people to buy products. They make that very obvious and then lie about it... apple apple apple, you need some new morals recently :(

It'll be a happy day when Apple realizes that they would make many people happy by just allowing people root access to the OS. They can still say that you void the warranty by tampering but it would make it a lot easier for the people no longer under warranty.

Ahem...

The Library of Congress Copyright Office reviews and authorizes exemptions for electronic devices and copyright material to ensure that the current law allows for lawful use of non-infringing use of copyright-protected material.

Contrary to popular belief, not every government entity exists to fix the economy.

Apple's goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.

Wow, really Apple? Insure?

Assure, ensure, insure.

Apple has become lazy with the proofreading!

The rest of the mobile industry has been sticking a fork in a toaster since the inception of the mobile phone.

I would think that 30+ years of allowing people to install what they want on their phones is a pretty good record.

Take City Group Banks app. It F'd over their users through incompetence.

I'll take my chance on the open Market when City has done enough in one day to tell Steve Jobs to take his walled garden of thorns and shove them up his ass.

Quality control or chaos? Which side does Apple stand for? Which side does the other parties stand for?

Surely that's why the Apple App Store is the most successful of them all, and why all the other companies are now riding Apple's coattail / copying iPhone & App Store.

I think you're seeing it wrong. Apple chooses to control Everything so that Everything can remain in the same circle of operations. The second you let your product go out in the wild with third party this and third party that.. you're screwed.. you're going to be see things that you can't even imagine.

Call Apple scum... call them a monopoly.... all in all, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE THEIR PRODUCTS. I really don't know why people complain so much about something if they have the option of Just not purchasing it.. SIMPLE

Well it should..... and should stop wasting time on matters such as jailbreaking.. Seriously....

The real issues with jail breaking is that it screws up the company's refresh cycle. If the corporation can't control the content and capabilities of their gadget, then their product forecast goes down the crapper. And it can severely damage future sales.
Interesting observation, when I saw the introductory video of the iphone 4 Greg Joswiak had a disingenuous tinged in his eyes when he said iphone 3GS brought in video capability. But we know jail breaking brought in said feature way before Apple did on that particular phone.
Whatever. I'm still not going to jail break my iphone.

Because i don't care about unlocking. where else am i gonna go? t-mobile? they suck more than ATT. can't go to verizon because thats cdma, therefore i dont care. as long as i have my jailbreak and free tethering im happy
What a short sighted comment. Yeah, 640KB is good enough too.
Most areas have only 1 or 2 ISP, but do you want to buy a Mac/PC that is locked to a single ISP? Do you want to buy a Mac/PC that can only be used in the US, despite that you probably would never go outside the US? Probably not.

Great Experience

about the quote i read
"Apple's goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone "

i have iphone 3g and when i upgrade to IOS4 I HAVE NOT THIS GREAT EXPERIENCE, SLOW DOWN. BUT I STILL LOVE MAC:apple:

PLEASE SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH SPEED IN IPHONE 3G

Again... DON'T BUY THE PRODUCT...
Companies do this all the time: Exclusiveness.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen products that I've wanted yet it came with a catch of having to sign up with One and ONLY one particular company and no other company and I just passed it buy: That's just how it is. You have an option to go with the Exclusivity or just pass on it.

How come you don't see people complaining that their exclusive X-box games aren't playing on their Sony Playstation 3 units?

Until Apple gives us the features we want, jailbraking will exist. Some iPhone owners want themes. Some folks don't like Apple's lies. MMS works o the Original iPhone, and so does video recording and multitasking. saying the hardware won't support it is BS, so jailbreaking is here to solve that problem.

Thats fine, jailbreak then, just don't go to Apple looking for support if things go wrong. But when something does go wrong we both know what you will do, restore factory defaults and tell Apple you never jail broke the phone.

Multitasking when Jailbroken killed my battery life, Apple did it the right way. Remember, Apple is all about the experience. An app limping along on older hardware is not a great experience. If one is not happy with how Apple wants to do it, there are many other choices, Droid being one of them. If a car doesn't have all the features I want, I shop for a car that does. That simple.

The Walled Garden is a reflecting of SJ's personality.

Dictator and Tirant.

I can understand his desire for the Walled Garden and wanting to ensure a certain level of quality when it comes to the user experience. However, once a product ships, I think that it should be up to the customer to decide whether or not they want to keep that default user experience or not, and that Apple shouldn't make it so difficult to change that experience.

I must be missing something, because I cannot see how a hardware defect with the iPhone has anything whatsoever to do with a jailbreak. If the phone has a software problem, Apple will simply do what anyone else would - restore the phone to factory default and call it a day.

the teabaggers always come out of the woodwork. you do realize the government has lots of duties that don't pertain to defense, immigration, and security. my question for you is if the government isn't supposed to poke their fingers in things, then by your logic the economy isn't really their problem, is it? shouldnt it be solved by the private sector? if not, isn't that socialism? you're a socialist for wanting the government to fix the economy. tist tist

Verizon won't activate a CDMA phone that runs software other than their own, even though they're technically able (just went thru this with a friend whose incredible **** the bed, and they refused to reactivate her old phone that she used on verizon for 2 years before the incredible). I left verizon because they hobbled my razr and forced me to pay for bt functionality and the ability to play music, which was locked into their music store that sold singles for $2.99 a pop. If I loaded moto's os, they wouldn't support me.

Nothing spectacular here.

Warranty/cars

People crack me up. Do what you want with your phone regardless of the manufacture but you agree to agreement so if they void your warranty it's your own fault. You can go by a new car and slap a turbo or numerous other mods on it and if you blow your engine up or what not you're screwed. They aren't going to give you a new engine. It's common sense people. Really c'mon.

Btw I used to have a jailbroken iPhone and if it went to crap and was not covered under my warranty I would not have been upset. You all know what you sign up for. If you have so many gripes about the products you use then the jokes on you for continuing to use them not the manufacture regardless who that is.

There is a difference between hardware modification and software modification.
