Wouldn't it be great if apple keyboards had illuminated buttons, just like the new macbook?

Depends. Are you wanting an Apple illuminated Wired or Wireless keyboard?
Surely for wired and im sure they will can out something for the wireless keyboards.

How much time do you think the illuminated wireless should work on a set of AA batteries.
No idea, but remember there leds that do the lighting on macbook, so that means much less power consumption. What about placing wireless charged batteries or even induction charging batteries?

From what i know if Apple would implement lithium-ion battery about 2000 mAh which is around same size capacity as iPhone 6 battery
A backlit (on minimal level) keyboard would last during 2/3 days from heavy use
Maybe sightly more for an average use
Definetely not enough and wireless feature would turn into wired keyboard every 2/3 days.

For starters i have no clue where you have this information, but it would be good to share how you know all this.
Finally i want to state that we are not here to find solutions for Apple!

Well it is pretty much similar to wireless gaming mice while standard BT mice got longer battery life that last for months, wireless gaming mice last less than 2/3 days
Leds will eat battery life quicker than expected even in minimal

Is it possible to find out how much watts do the MacBooks button leds consume?

Wouldn't a keyboard consume far less power than an iPhone though?

I think  can learn a lesson or two from Logitech if they are redesigning their wireless keyboard

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/illuminated-keyboard-for-mac-ipad-iphone?crid=26

Aesthetics aside, this one sounds tough to beat on paper at least.
Wow i had no idea this Logitech keyboard ever existed! Thanx for the post sangalang! Although i must say that even if logitech has the illuminated keyboard ready, i wouldn't buy it to use it for my Apple products because it just don't fit (design wise) to Apple's product line!
Damn it Apple, produce a wired and wireless illuminated keyboard. i would buy it anyday! :D

I am using the Logitech K811 with my iMac and love it. It proves that battery life is NOT an issue with wireless keyboards, and that Apple could design and produce one if they really wanted to.

Logitech did a wonderful job with the design of this product. There is a sensor that detects when your fingers are close to the keys and then automatically lights them IF the ambient light is low. The result is that the illumination only comes on when it is really needed. In actual use, it seems almost magical and is a true delight. You also have your choice of 4 different levels of illumination.

I use my iMac heavily every day, including in the evening when the illumination is needed on the keyboard. Even so, I get about 7 WEEKS of battery life before the keyboard needs recharging. You get a warning a few days before charging is needed (both on the keyboard and as a popup on the iMac screen). Just connect the keyboard to a USB port for a couple hours and you are all charged up and ready to go for another 7 weeks.

The physical design of this keyboard blends nicely with iMacs. With its 3 device selection switch, I can also use the keyboard easily with my iPad and Apple TV. I can't recommend this product highly enough.

@Zoran: Glad to help :)
Also, there was a rumour few months back  might be working on such a keyboard. So your prayer might be answered sooner than you think!

Thanks colodane - it's always good to hear real-life reviews. I hope to try the Logitech out in person one day (curious about the typing quality) but none of my local stores seem to carry them in stock.

For the record I'm still very happy with my wired  keyboard. But once my new laptop arrives I think Logitech's "easy switch" might come in quite handy.

I wonder, that micro usb charging cable, could it be used instead of the wireless feature that is implemented in this keyboard? In other words, can the cable be used to operate the keyboard instead of the wireless connectivity?

Yep! Now that Apple has released notebook keyboards with TouchBar, it is only a matter of time until we see iMacs with TouchBar keyboards. TB has to be black, so they'll most likely make the keys black. Good time to introduce backlights as well, don't you think?

Hmm it does look like an interesting keyboard but its quite overwhelming when standing besides a simplistic design iMac.

I too would like a proper backlit keyboard for desktops to be honest. I just take advantage of the fact that I use Pro Tools so I can somewhat justify the purchase! ;) ($165 can)

Im used to working on Illu or Pshop on a regular keyboard so i don't really need those covers that have buttons for each application, but i do need a backlit keyboard when im working with a low light conditions and hopefully a keyboard that is wired (i hate wireless)! ;)

Same company sells a backlit keyboard that is just the simple key layout, without all the custom key marklngs of that audio studio keyboard.

That looks really nice. I wonder if you can rub off their ugly logo. It's the only thing I don't like about it. I wonder how the keys compare to Apple's own keyboards.

I am holding some hope Apple will eventually release the black Magic Keyboard separately from the iMac Pro, though it won't be backlit.

They are really gonna disappoint me if they go wireless (as an only option) on the Magic keyboard though!
