Yeah I just can't see them doing that. At most maybe the 5.5" would start at $299 but not the 4.7".

Walk into a carrier store and you see all the other flagships at $199 (S5, HTC M8, LG G3) while the iPhone is $299. I think you guys are underestimating how many people buy based off price first despite their love for Apple. Also what do you suppose would occupy the $199 price point? Surely they couldn't keep selling the 5S for $199.

What I do think is we might see a 128GB model introduced at $499 (with contract).

Guess we'll find out in a couple weeks.

worse case they do a 4.7 with 16GB at 199.

I'm expecting a wearable. Its most likely going to be a watch that is centered around Siri.

God I hope not because even though I am American, I have lived overseas for so many years my accent is muddled. Siri has trouble understanding me quite a bit (as does Google Now), while Cortana understands me perfectly for some odd reason.
I hate having to speak slowly and enunciate so these AI's can get what I say.

Their has to be some Mac device unveiled also!

IOS 8 and Yosemite work with together. SO you expect them to be released together.

Maybe a 12" iPad with Yosemite, with iPhone 6, with the iWatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you will definitely not see a iPad Pro. I'd be willingly to bet anything on that.

This would be insane. Apple is barely leading the U.S market, but is definitely losing the world-wide sales market. If the base model is $299, they will fail.

Wouldn't it be pretty unusual for Apple to lump the iPhone announcement with a Mac one? Has that ever been done? Not that I can recall...

Alright, I am going to go a little nuts here and quote someone from another topic, it helps me justify why I don't think Apple should separate the 4.7 and 5.5 with specs.

-----------------------------------------------------

---Quote (Originally by cababah)---

---End Quote---
True. I probably could have put my point across better by saying that eventually there will be apps that don't run on less than 2GB, and so there would be the situation where an app will only run on the 2014 Air, but not the 2014 Mini.

Similarly, one could imagine for example a game, that was designed such that it needs 2GB RAM to run its highest quality mode. This is not far fetched, as we are already seeing PC games from the not-too-distant past being ported to run on iOS (e.g. Bioshock). Therefore you would have the situation where your iPad Mini's performance was severely compromised through no reason other than lack of RAM.

And considering that RAM is pretty cheap now, I see no logical reason for Apple not to keep their iPhones and iPads as close to identical as they can, ignoring size. Varying things like RAM just fragments the product line, and unnecessarily complicates the production and supply chain.

-----------------------------------------------------

I really truly believe that the 4.7 and 5.5 should follow the iPad mini with Retina Display and iPad Air's footsteps, ignoring size, but keeping the same specs.

So, I am predicting that the 4.7 and 5.5 (if there even are 2 devices in the first place) will have the same, if not, very, very, close specs. Aside from battery though, the larger display obviously needs a larger battery to maintain the same battery life as the smaller device.

Less knowledgable people may feel cheated by Apple if they got the 2014 phone, but the other 2014 phone which seemingly is just bigger and more expensive (both factors are commonly less favorable among people) has more stuff than the phone of the same year, and potentially, name; iPhone 6.

Sorry if my explanation got... Convoluted. I have trouble organizing my thoughts at times, as many arise at once.

I agree, there is no chance in hell Apple will differentiate between a 4.7” iPhone and 5.5” iPhone with specs.

It doesn't make any sense from a business point of view, or consumer point of view.

The only thing it would do is make nerds cream their pants, and Apple isn't in that game. If you want an impressive spec sheet, go elsewhere.

Apple will continue to have the simplest, most easy to understand product strategy on the market, where the only thing you will need to think about is “Do you want a 4.7” screen or a 5.5” screen?”

There is a reason apple just started offering AT&T Next Plan. I believe the price point will begin for iPhones at 299. iwatch might start at 199.

I think they will announce the iWatch, Phone6, and go into more of iOS8. I think there will be a 5.5" iPhone6, but sadly I dont think it will come this time around :[

Exactly. Someone finally understands! I personally don't think that they will make the specs different between the 4.7 and 5.5, but there always is a possibility. Even if it doesn't make sense. I really, really would not want them to do this, as it would complicate my decision. "Cheaper, but more comfortable phone, or a more expensive phone that has ALL the new features, but also comes with a larger form factor I'm not a fan of" I would much rather have the decision go, "A cheaper, but more comfortable phone, or an expensive, large phone that would be uncomfortable for me? Yeah, I'm just going for the smaller phone. Has everything the other one has."

I don't see why Apple would keep the retina mini the same as the air, but then not do the same for their phones. It would cause customer confusion, why can you get all the good specs with both tablet sizes, but not phone sizes?

Aaanndd on top of all that, manufacturing processes would be more complicated, it just would be a mess in my honest opinion.

What about $50 increments for storage tiers? Anyone think this model will carry over from the iPod Touch?

Would be nice to pick up a 64gb 4.7 @ a $299 price point, or even a 128gb at $349

I think the 4.7" might see the same pricing as we've seen before but the 5.5" will be $100 more at each storage level.

The absence of the 5.5" model will disappoint many. Even if ready Apple thinks profits first. They also know what they can get away with, since there's no more tolerant customer than the Apple Faithful. By holding it back Apple knows they can tease it and the customers will wait. Apple prevails again.

I'm expecting a larger iPhone.
I'm expecting to be as excited as a kid on Christmas morning.

Not expecting too much, or I may set myself up to fail.

Prediction review!

Due to certain claims and discussions made in the past few months, maybe the iPhone size prediction should be worth as much as all other predictions put together?

My predictions: [last updated August 28]

iPhone:
  • 4.7" (lower-end) and 5.5" (higher-end) models - CORRECT on both the sizes and positioning
  • Some multiple of 736x414 for the 5.5" - PARTIAL, the display's physical resolution is 1920x1080 which 736x414 doesn't divide evenly into, but according to this Twitter post, the display is rendered at 3x 736x414
  • A8 SoC - CORRECT
  • CPU: Cyclone, dual-core, 2.0-2.4 GHz max boost, 1.3-1.5 GHz base - To be determined, although everything but the boost seems reasonable
  • GPU: PowerVR G6630, ~600 MHz (I don't expect any custom GPU here) - INCORRECT - It is almost certain that the GPU is a PowerVR GX6450, dunno about the clocks yet
  • Up to 128 GB storage on the 5.5" - CORRECT
  • $199 (4.7") and $299 (5.5") for the U.S. subsidized prices of the base models - CORRECT
  • No "6c" or "5sc" type model - CORRECT
Wearable:
  • A watch called the iWatch will be announced - PARTIAL, it is called the Apple Watch, but at least I got the "watch" part correct
  • It'll use an SoC distinct from the A-series used in the iPhone and the iPad - CORRECT, uses an S1 SoC
  • Apple-designed CPU, much smaller and lower power than Cyclone, dual-core configuration - To be determined
  • I'm going out on a limb here and predict that it'll be the first product with a custom Apple GPU (Apple has been rumored to be designing their own GPU) - To be determined
Other:
  • Home and health will be a large focus - PARTIAL, at least the health part was
  • That covered structure is a mock home - INCORRECT, it seems to be the Hands-On Pavilion to showcase the products
  • I don't expect any new Macs at the event, but if there are any, I think a Retina iMac is most likely - CORRECT
  • No new iPod or iPad announcement - CORRECT, I'm actually lucky that I (deliberately) didn't update this in the last week or so before the event, since certain last-minute rumors suggested an iPad Air update today and I was starting to believe them :D
Will be updated as I get more information.
