I see a lot of disgrunted folk moaning about this and that with this Apple offer! Really you spoiled brats ! Worked all my life never got any offer of price reductions when college and buy all my Apple products at full price you complainers get a life ,no doubt mummy and daddy are buying it anyway and no doubt in the UK the old student loan ( payed by the tax payer may I add ) will be footing the bill .
Lol
I'm simply pointing out a downgrade of the student offer which will remain permanent even when the beats offer ends.

If you cannot or don't want to pay full retail- then buy cheap used items from a marketplace. Or befriend a student and get them to buy on your behalf. Lol

Higher Education purchases (15% off, free 3-year hardware warranty) are available all year round. The only difference with the 'back to school' promotion is that you get free stuff -- in this case, Beats headphones.

EDIT: No longer 15%, gone down to 10/11%. Looking into the situation with AC now.
I knew this..

No it a honest remark why are you whining when given a reduction in price plus s FREE set of ear buds

Free Beats headphones are worse than useless as far as I'm concerned, I think most people with a pair of ears would be happier buying a pair of Sony MDRs at a quarter of the price.

With regards to the discount, pricing has historically stayed static for education and business discounts. The 15% discount and free 3-year hardware warranty has been in place since 2011, and likely a lot earlier too. This HE pricing change has also affected the Apple Business Store, which has meant we are now completely reevaluating pricing and currently clarifying if the change in warranty also affects the business store too.

Regardless, your assertion that because you've always paid full price for Apple products, that means anybody who buys HE discounted Macs is either spoilt, blowing through parents' money, or leeching from the tax payer, is a very rude and ignorant thing to say.

I'm probably out of touch but for me rather than free headphones I would prefer cloud storage and/or Microsoft Office/Adobe.
I know these are not Apple software but would be what I wanted.

This kinda sucks. They want you to purchase outdated hardware and give you outdated headphones .

After the promotion finishes, Apple will release updated MacBooks . Not cool.

I can see new beats headphones that will pair with iPhone 7 without the headphone jack.

This promotion would have been okay had Apple updated the hardware recently

They've done exactly this for years. No less than 30 days after this promotion ends (to prevent returns of the old hardware), Apple will release new MBPs. Only a handful of times in the last 15 years has Apple used their back-to-school promo to do something besides clear old inventory.

No ones taxes ever funded student loans, when loans are made new money is created*. The interest made from the student loans props up government spending, you should be thanking them ;)

He was being a d*ck but just put the headphones on eBay and you've doubled your discount...

er well if your a student with no income where do you get the cash to buy it then Iam happy that Apple offers you a discount but to whine about how much reduction s d not very good FREE ear buds in itself makes me think your s spoiled mummy's boy ! Lol if you can't accept Apples generous offer don't buy else ever but for the sake of it stop whining like a old woman take the offer and be happy ,next you'll be whining that you've got to get off your backside cos the won't deliver it to you

Just checked with apple store online chat and the edu sales no longer include 3 years warranty, you have to buy applecare at a discount. So not only have the prices gone up but the free warranty is removed, this sucks i was looking forward to buy the new MBP with the discount.

So... Anyone that's done this before. If I bought my heading-to-college student a MacBook quite literally a week before this started, am I able to go back and take advantage?

...cuz unlike the rest of the people here that apparently unaware of what Solo2's are, I'd love to get him a set of the best on-ear headphones on the market for free.

Is that sarcasm? Or did you forget to replace Beats with bose and solo2 with QC35

Do you really think Apple is being generous and doing it out of the goodness of their hearts?

It's another Tim Cook PR stunt... Find a way to clear out excess inventory for the new stuff coming out, while pretending we care about students... Win/win for them.

This program is worthless to me until the new MacBook Pro comes out. I have Parrot Zik 3.0 headphones which are amazing, but I suppose I could sell a NIB Beats for a couple hundred bucks.

think thats a bit unfair. Its not excess inventory. Its a promotion for students to choose apple over a windows laptop and encouraging younger customers to get further entwined in the apple ecosystem. for example, The new macbook only came out a few months ago and is part of the deal.

It's excess inventory. Apple is trying to get rid of old Macbook's before bringing out new ones in September or October.

Students would rather buy a $450 Windows laptop than buy a $1,500 Mac and get a pair of Beats crappy headphones.

Apple could only compete with a decent back to school program if they sold a Macbook Pro for $599 with proof that the student is in the student loan system.

there is unlikely to be a macbook 12inch refresh again this year. MacBook Pro, yes
Go to any campus, macs are everywhere, pal

Plus in previous years, new Airs and Pro's came out just a few weeks before the back to school programme began

I am a student, and they're not as popular as you think. Most still own a Window's laptop.

20% of college students polled said their next computer will be a Mac, compared to 38% said Windows. The other percentages make up "none" and "other."

Apple have often been confused regarding the 3yr warranty, even when you ask live chat previously they normally say you have to pay for Apple Care. Not saying they haven't removed it this time, but previously it has looked like you are only getting 1yr unless you pay for Apple Care and then they email you about the 3yr warranty extension about a month or so after purchase.

As I said if you feel that way nobody is forcing you to buy it As always look on the negative side grow up

Just checked my emailed receipt from 15 December, 2009: MacBook Air 13.1/2.13GHZ/2GB/128SSD. Warranty effective through: Dec. 14, 2010. (ie 1 year) with applecare reduced from £195 to £47.

So it can't have been more than a year earlier than that.

Yes, that's exactly the point. Companies don't discount stuff that's selling well at full price. Whatever would they give up easy profits for? But when you need to clear the channel to make way for new merchandise, you want to incentivize faster purchase of those goods already on store shelves. Those who buy get what they bargained for, and have no reason to be unhappy. I've done this deal several times over the years, always been happy, knowing I got a great (even if not the latest) product at a great price, since Apple gear rarely is discounted (save refurba and the like).

I got it on my iMac i bought in 2007. I could have purchased Apple Care for £47, but I didn't and then about a month of so later I got an email confirming the warranty was extended to 3 years without me paying anything. Same thing has happened on the 3 Macs I have purchased since.

The school year does not change . What I'm saying is that this year students are unlucky as they are offered EOL hardware, next year students will be offered hardware that is new. Apple does not discount at all. Students have always had perks, it's just this year the timing is bad, cause brand new hardware will come after school starts

Nor did I say I ever wanted to buy one. The last Apple laptop I bought was 3 years ago. I don't plan on buying another one any time soon. See, this is your issue, you assume too much rather than using a logical opinion or having facts to back up what you say.

Hey Apple, Your "back to school" program is bad..especially at this time. I was gonna support by buying a computer but you gave lot of people a big "fu". Enjoy your remaining sales.
