Yay, $20 off the overpriced 9.7" Pro. Seriously? $20 is pretty much not even worth discounting. For a company as high-end as Apple, these discounts are pretty bad.

I'd much rather have $100 off the iPad than $20 off and a pair of headphones that I won't use. I know, just be grateful, but come on. $20 is not a discount, and free headphones don't make up for it.

It's...a discount. I don't understands peoples logic to a discount + free things.

Ordered yesterday when this promotion went live. Went with free standard shipping, goodies just arrived. It's nice to be 90 minutes south of their eastern distribution center.

So like a lot of people, i'm hoping to get a new MBP that will hopefully, but unlikely, be released at WWDC. I have access to education pricing so free stuff is always a win. However, I have just bought myself a pair of wireless Marshall headphones that i'm in love with and have no need to switch for a pair of beats.

Given that iPhone users can pay to upgrade from the Powerbeats to the Solo2, would MacBook buyers be allowed to "downgrade" to the Powerbeats, as I could at least use those for running...

They'd probably swap them for you in store, but you aren't getting $100 back.

I haven't read all posts, so sorry, if it's come up before.

I was wondering why the Back to school started this early this year (or at least that's what it feels like), but my husband just brought up that they may want to clear out stocks... here's still hoping for an macbook update anytime sooner than September.

Also, just slightly bumped, because we just bought an iMac 3 weeks ago (am a student and hence eligible). It does sting a tiny little bit.

Back to School sales already? Didn't North American schools just start the summer break?

Former Apple education manager here, still plugged into the corporate machine to a degree...

The "back to school" period in the US begins before college graduations begin in early May, as graduating college students hit their campus computer store one last time before departing for the real world. Also, many students graduating from high school in May and June receive their college laptop as a graduation gift. The peak of the BTS season comes in early-mid August, just before the bulk of US college students head for campus. (Last year was a noticeable departure from this pattern.) Based on the pattern from previous years I would estimate that 90% of the new student computer purchases take place in the June-August time frame, certainly before the students arrive on campus. Many incoming freshman make their purchase during summer orientation sessions if their campus has a store.

A program launch in late May-early June, ending in early September has always yielded the best bang for Apple's promotional buck. Other geographies have the flexibility to tailor the dates to their unique school calendars and buying patterns.

One more comment: in putting the program together, the age and supply of certain products and the feature set of forthcoming offerings has never been taken into account. In other words, Apple is not trying to clear out "old" product or seed users with wireless headphones in anticipation of the iPhone 7 feature set. While the next gen iPhone may not have a 1/8" phone jack, this is certainly not a head fake in the direction.

Correct. Their product line is now locked in until the promotion ends.

Expect zero hardware releases at WWDC.

Wrong. Apple has frequently released new product during BTS promo periods, and the new product has almost always been covered under the BTS program. Exceptions would include low revenue/low margin products such as the Mac Mini.

I just bought a Macbook two days ago... GRR LOL
Me too. I bought a MacBook for my daughter on May 31. Today Apple sent me an email with a promotion code. I used the promotion code and voila, the headphones were sent to my address free of charge.

I'm hoping for a more powerful MBP. Hoping, but not holding my breath.
They are developing an ultra thin line of MB and MBP.

I am assuming they are trying to get rid of Beats stock with 3.5 mm headphone jack before the new iPhone launch in September. If they did the back to school promo in August like they typically do this 'fire sale' would be more apparent bc there will be more talk of the new iPhone starts ramping up around that time of year. Also there is a good chance the new MacBook Pros won't have audio out either which I think would be a real shame. Either way, I think Apple is trying to be a little sneaky here by getting rid of as much stock with 3.5 mm jacks while people are still interested. Apple doesn't see it as the way forward and will let people upgrade to wireless but still will profit a little off of those who pay the $100 to upgrade. It's a win-win for them.
These are wireless

Does anyone know if I'll be able to get the MacBook Pro coming June 13th with this deal.
This promotion runs into September so why not?

Yeah that's fine, it'd be too perfect if they also gave you the difference in a gift card, lol. There's just something in me that feels the day I go to buy it, I'll get a jobsworth who will deny me switching the headphones bcos I HAVE to get the Solo2 with a MacBook. Here's hoping anyway!

You might be better off just selling the Solo 2's. Then you can buy whatever you want.

Because although they may be announced at WWDC the speculation is that they won't be available until later in the year.

Can we please just call this an "education promotion" instead? I refuse to believe we're already talking about "back to school" when I still have two weeks left to teach before my students get out for the summer. Are we going to start Black Friday sales in September too?
