Sell the "free" beats and buy Bose QuietComfort 35s.
My kids bought 3 Beats products: the pod thing, corded earphones and bluetooth earphones- Battery won't charge in pod, one ear dead in corded, band came apart in bluetooth in just over a year. When you check on the net, every one of the problems is well known. I rewired the corded pair took me over 3 hours. Flimsiest wire you ever saw. Nothing special about the drive units. Taped up the corded pair, won't close but still work.
They are uncomfortable and the sound quality is OK at best on all three
I have 2 pairs of Sennheiser which are old and pretty good frankly. Not at all tiring and although they aren't really great anywhere, they aren't bad anywhere either. Clear treble, not bass heavy.
But my son bought some Quiet Comfort 35 which are simply amazing. OK if you don't like the Bose but Audio Technica, Parrot etc are way better then the Beats. But don't dis the Bose until you try them the sound stage is incredible.

But here's the thing. I bought some Bluetooth headphones for my 10 year old daughter and they are made by MPow. They look at least as good as the beats (without the name of course) and the build quality is definitely better. They are more comfortable on the ear. The bluetooth works over 7mtrs with no problems. They have a mike and volume controls on the side and you can even use them to answer a call. No problems with connection or battery life I can recall.
Listening to audio quality, it's pretty much the same. Neither is really great, both are ok- nothing noticeably bad or tiring. Both a bit bass heavy and slightly muddy in the mid range. The Beats are slightly better at really high volume but I defy anyone to tell which is which in a listening test. You might choose one or the other because for your taste but that's all.
The only real difference is the Mpow cost $35 (Bluetooth Over ear M3 if you are interested)
Give Beats a miss. They aren't worth the money either for sound quality or build quality.

Oh, I forgot. The Mpow are supposed to have noise cancelling as well. I think it works a bit but it isn't like on the Bose.

I own a pair of QC25's, they're not bad if you need noise cancelling (I was regularly travelling for hours and IEMs got uncomfortable)....but for overall audio quality, unless they've improved allot, yeah get something else for the money.

For listening at home I prefer my Sennheiser HD598 headphones.

I just called Apple Store Support:

If you bought an eligible product in the last 14 days you get the promo benefits with no questions asked. No need to return.

Just call the store support and they will arrange it for you

Heads up for folk wanting to make use of this- you don't need to be a student. All you need is an email address from a university. My father got this deal last year and he's just a lecturer, and a family friend who works in admin at the same uni was also accepted.

Also works if you have trustable friends with such email addresses.

What is the educational discount in the UK these days? Is it a fixed % across the board for laptops and iPads?

IIRC back in the day there used to be different levels of discount (University v other education)?

It has dropped since I last bought a Mac with educational discount. It is now 10% for Macs and 5% for iPad Pro, and no longer includes Applecare.

I would consider this offer for an iPad Pro 10.5, but they don't include the over ear headphone as an option, only the on ear.

Does anyone know if Unidays is only working for the country's online store where your school/university is?

My university is in Austria but I am living in Germany until maybe some time in September and always get redirected to the Austrian store what doesn't ship to a German address.

If I change it manually to the German education store I get an error from Unidays. Their support didn't answer me and the Apple chat didn't know.

The student discount for Apple Music is working without any issue for my German Apple ID.

I know there are other methods to proof Apple you are eligible, just wondering if I did something wrong, also I got an exception from Unidays to register the account without a .edu-address until September 30th because I am only registered for studying in general and don't know yet if I get healthy enough in time.

Is there a 'while supplies last' catch? I'd be really bummed if I wait until the end of September(when I'm gonna be in the U.K.) only not to make use of the promotion.

If there is, I'm jumping the gun and buying one here.

You know what kinda annoys me? That if I buy a $1.4k Mac I get $300 off, but if I buy a 1.2k iPad pro (as I'm going to) I only get #150 off! (prices approximately, from Norwegian prices)

You don't need to return it. If you are within the 14 day period, they apply to you the back to school promo, as it is retroactive.

Even more, when I bought the last MacBook pro last week, I asked if the promo had been activated a few days later my 14 day period expired, if there would be a chance to get the gift, and they said, literally "Apple is always reasonable at this cases, we are flexible in this regards".

So don't worry, you'll have your earphones :)

I bought my new iPad Pro on day one. I feel so pissed by Apple now.
