Apple launched a new App Store on the web today, allowing users to browse through and search for apps across all of its platforms.

The updated apps.apple.com site provides a drop down for each platform, and it includes the Today section with app and game recommendations, categories, and Apple Arcade titles.

There is a search interface for looking up a specific app, and clicking on "View" on any app in the store provides screenshots and information optimized for a web view. The design mirrors the App Store on each of Apple's platforms, but it has a much friendlier web interface.

Apps that you search for on the web can be shared, or you can opt to open an app directly in the App Store if you have it installed.

Prior to now, Apple provided webpages for each app in the App Store, but there was no central site for content discovery.

What would be nice is to log in to the web interface with your Apple ID and be able to select an app from the store and tell it which of your applicable devices to push the install to. Like, if I'm on my Mac and I see an iPhone app in an article whose link opens up the App Store page, I should be able to buy/get that app and have it immedately pushed to my phone, even if I don't have my phone on me at the moment.

It's about time..! I don't really use the app store anymore since I have things set up the way I like it, but it's nice to know this is an option if need be; easier browsing and reading reviews in a big browser windows instead of an iPhone screen.

Edit: I can't login and select an app for purchase or install......just look at them? Why?!

One of the things that drove me mad when i had an iPhone. With my Google Pixel it's so handy when browsing on my mac and downloading a linked app etc. It's so curious apple didnt do this earlier. One more reason to switch back to iOS next year!

Funny, clicking on that link in the first line of the article opened the App Store on my iPhone ;)
More like “expected” to me. They want to link you to where you can actually buy stuff!

What this should do is expose some of the App Store write ups like this one
to the internet. Since I do almost ALL my searching for new apps via a search engine, just adds to the wide amount of information available to me.

Why doesn't it recognize I'm logged in and know about my iPhone & iPad devices and let me remotely install content to them?

I thought the same, though I do really like that I can quickly switch to an App Store from a different county immediately from the bottom of the page and that I can quickly peruse all the app stores for various devices from a single desktop interface; such as for Apple TV, Vision Pro and Watch etc. Hopefully they add the capability to remote install apps to devices I own too!
