When I search for a specific app by its exact name, will the store actually show me that app? Or will I have to scroll through a dozen knock offs and apps with a close name approximation to the app I want before I get to the one I actually want?

Yes, but you're misunderstanding how they operate by thinking there is anything to "fix".

That's it! I'm gonna write a strongly worded letter to the consumer protection legislators and demand a rewrite (or enforcement) of the definition of the word "free" in relation to Apps! The government always listens to 'the people' 😬

Joking aside, imo it's 50/50 here. I'm not sure I agree that Apple intended the Free charts to be populated with IAP apps, and devs, being the smart people they are, have used & abused this fact whilst Apple have actively decided to ignore it due to it working out in their favour, financially.

Is becoming naive a common symptom of old age? 😅

...maybe I'll write that letter to the government after all, I'm sure that's a symptom of old! 🤔😩 Time to find my quill 😬

It is 2025 and Apple got AppStore web version, what a time to be alive!🤣

Yay, maybe in 2045 we will be able to download .IPA files, back them up and archive however we want. However by that time most people will probably move on to OpenAI’s voice pin though, so iPhone is going to be obsolete tech, for better or worse

Why doesn't it recognize I'm logged in and know about my iPhone & iPad devices and let me remotely install content to them?

It is a browser app. Not 100% certain, but am pretty sure your login details are not available to the highly-sandboxed browser. This is an important browser security measure. Now only if Apple would allow PWA's to be listed on their AppStore browser app. (I jest as we all know this is NEVER gonna happen despite the fact the SteveJ originally targeted web apps as the primary solution for the iPhone apps). So you are safe cause of the long history of folks doing their best to ensure your browser is as secure as possible (yeah not 100%, but pretty good).

many VERY good and TRULY 'Free' apps don't get the exposure they deserve in the App Store charts
Yeah but sometimes if you keep scrolling search results you might find good ones including one-time purchase apps. My two basic criteria are no monthly fees and no data collection.

So it's not just all good designers that left Apple, but also all good engineer.

Come on. It is the web. The JS is downloaded into the browser. Sure Apple could have uglified/minimized it, but that means nothing to anyone who wants to de-uglify/de-minimize it. Although it seems weird, the fact that the components you load when viewing a web page are readibly available via download (that is how your browser accesses them) is SOP. If you are using Chrome, simply view the page and type Cmd-Opt-J and click on elements. You can then open the walk thru the downloads. It is obvious... and therefore likely secure. HTH, NSC

Huh? You can log onto your Apple Account from any browser, e. g. to do online shopping on apple.com. All they really need to add is an login option on this page and once you are logged in, it will ask you what device you want to install it on. That's how it works on Google Play and I love it as I hate browsing for Apps on the phone (ironically).

Speaking as an App developer, I'm thrilled. So long over due.
One thing this might/might-not imply is will Apple now let us scan the App store in each country for keyword rankings?

Google/Play have an API to allow you to check keyword rankings which is super helpful.

The only option we have for checking how our App Store ASO is performing is by using a data broker like Sensor Tower or similar. It's pretty hard to DIY.
We really need to be free from having no choice but using these as they are mining our data while over charging for all it is.

Same here. Whenever I check the App Store for something I make sure I skip all apps marked with the in-app purchase tag. No more renting software.
Many apps offer a lifetime option as an in-app purchase, because Apple provides no other way to offer a trial version. So skipping all apps with that tag makes you missing out on those apps with non-subscription options. Blame Apple for not allowing trials, because they want to push subscriptions.

Hmm, I wonder why now do they release this after all this time? Not sure how useful this will be.

Apple launched a new App Store on the web today, allowing users to browse through and search for apps across all of its platforms.

The updated apps.apple.com site provides a drop down for each platform, and it includes the Today section with app and game recommendations, categories, and Apple Arcade titles.

There is a search interface for looking up a specific app, and clicking on "View" on any app in the store provides screenshots and information optimized for a web view. The design mirrors the App Store on each of Apple's platforms, but it has a much friendlier web interface.

Apps that you search for on the web can be shared, or you can opt to open an app directly in the App Store if you have it installed.

Prior to now, Apple provided webpages for each app in the App Store, but there was no central site for content discovery.

Is there some secret to getting this site to open? I keep getting directed to the App Store. Even when doing web searches on Google and DDGo. Or is it down already? Any help appreciated.

Took a very long time. Very glad that it does not open app store when clicking on a link. Was very annoying till now.

It would be useful if Apple added icons for these web versions (Music, Maps, App Store) to your iCloud.com homepage. They're not advertised anywhere and I doubt most people know they exist.

Hold on the link and try “Open” or “Open in Background” that works for me.

I agree but it's not practical to click on every app and check if they offer a lifetime plan.

I thought the original comment about the app not having login details suggested the web app read the login credentials from the App Store app. Certainly if one logs in via the web app then your information should be accessed via Apple's web server backend via the login process. HTH, NSC.
