Guys/Gals:

Mobile Me is affordable IF you get at a non-Apple place of purchase. I got my retail box family mobile me pack for $80 off ebay. It was the real box. I know some people get the codes emailed to them but I felt more comfortable getting the retail box.

I wouldn't pay $150 for a family pack or $100 for single license.

I also wonder if this means that I'll finally be able to invite people/accept invites to events via my iphone/ipad calendars. That's been some seriously lacking functionality that I just can't understand. Since it's coming to the web version, I sure hope it extends to iOS.

the biggest problem is total lack of interface with ipad. Do not understand why mobileme was not part of ipad.

I'd rather pay a nominal amount for MobileMe than an advertising supported "free" service. We're not totally sure yet if Apple is mining people's data in MobileMe and selling it -- we know for sure Google is.

Calendar looks disappointing. Will it have Google "quick add"?

It's nice to see the are working on it, but the events still have that too transparent from iCal look that makes it look sloppy to me. The iPhone style looks better.

I hope the MobileMe calendar has a "Quick Add" feature like Google's that allows natural language entry. It works very well.

Google Example:

"Dinner with Michael 7pm tomorrow"

Instantly adds the event and smartly shows you the confirmation without getting in your way. It is very flexible and just about any logical entry works, even abbreviations; for instance, "Ironman Movie next Wed" properly adds Ironman Movie event for July 14th.

I'd rather see iCal getting some love. I don't know why Apple can't deliver a better organizer. The popups aren't conducive to effective workflow (I want an always-up inspector like the tray was.) Also, there's no way to just *list* calendar entries. Again, there used to be something like this. Back then it wasn't totally effective, but it got the job done. Lack of those functions has always gotten to me.

Also, the todo's are a joke.

Yeah,

Why get MacOS X when you can get Ubuntu for free?
Why get iPhoto when you can get Picasa for free?
Why get iMovie when you can get Windows Live Movie Maker for free?

Just because some things are free doesn't mean pay for is a wrong choice. I like MobileMe for its intergration with my Macs and other things that make it worth it to me.

Looks good!

I just wish I would have known about the calendar sharing feature coming or I would have upgraded to a family license rather than just renewing my single license.

I do have to wonder that with previous rumors over MobileMe becoming free that once these updates to the MobileMe services are complete if we see iAds to support them as free services. Dressing them up as eye candy would make them much more attractive and stand out from google's services even if the features aren't quite on par.

I, for one, LOVE MobileMe. People need to actually use the service before knocking it.

You get the most benefit if you use a Mac + iPhone. If you use a Mac + other phone or PC + iphone, the value of MobileMe drops a little (but not much).

Great service

I have an iPhone, Mac and iPad. I used the MobileMe trial. Don't get it. I am now using Google calendar (syncs multiple calendars wirelessly on all my devices), Dropbox instead of iDisk, and Flickr. All for free?

Getting there

I really like the new look, but hardly ever log into MobileMe. I'm glad to hear that it now has all four views (Day, Week, Month, and List). It never made sense that MobileMe didn't have a List view before. What still doesn't make sense is that the iPhone doesn't have a Week view. The major problem, however, is that tasks won't sync to the iPhone calendar. I don't understand how this has been overlooked/ignored for so long. They go from iCal to MobileMe, but not to the iPhone where they would be the most useful.

Message to Apple: My week starts on Monday and goes to Sunday.

I don't want to be forced to have a Sunday-Saturday view, either on MobileMe, or the iPad calendar!

Thanks!

It seems (on the iPad at least) to be linked to your 'Region Format' in the International settings - Apple seems to be under the impression that in the UK it is Mon-Sun and in the US Sun-Sat. In my experience its far more random than that - although in the UK I guess Mon-Sun is the more 'normal'. Unlike OSX there's no way to customise the region stuff unfortunately.

Cool - thanks... Looks like my iPad IS set to US at the moment, and that fixes it (I'm in the UK anyway).

This should be a separate option though.

And yes, the iPad calendar look and feel is too kitchy.

Listen, I understand if someone prefers one service over another, but this excuse.....yes, EXCUSE....that MM costs money....ridiculous.

1. MM is $99 a year through apple....you can find it cheaper via Ebay, Amazon, etc.....down as low as $50.

2. If you can purchase an iPhone AND iPad AND Mac......and you can purchase all the software/apps to go along with those items......and you can pay for the service to run those devices.......and you can affor apple care on those devices.......i'm SURE you can spend $50-$99 a YEAR on MM. It's not breaking your bank.

Please stop with the cost "excuse" people, it really holds no water at all.

Well now you can enjoy the magic of dates written in the right order - magic.
