Well let’s hope Apple don’t let Siri learn how to send our convos to our contacts like freaking Alexa
cuz it happened to one person one time months ago. Big deal

Actually no it happened more than oncecuz it happened to one person one time months ago. Big deal
Wow, way too much going on in that app. It certainly doesn’t „just work“. Ain’t got no time for that. It’s sort of like those games that require a half hour introduction. Instant delete.
No and rightly so they don’t. It should just work. It’s not my job to almost require a computer science degree (exaggeration) to teach Siri skills. It should just know it. Otherwise I don’t need an assistant, like in the real world almost.
Oh and if I DO want my echo to learn something, I just install a skill from the skill STORE
I thought the app was suppose to have a bunch of commonly used shortcuts?
I'm a developer and I work with business all the time to create software for them based on their always-evolving needs.
It's not complicated. You're just not getting it. Sounds like a "you" problem.
It does and will only grow with more shortcuts as time goes by. I believe creators can submit shortcuts as well making it kind of a crowd sourced thing which is great.
It's perfectly usable for phone smart people. You don't have to be good at everything, don't worry. No, I get it. I said that in my original post...just because I agree with others that it needs to be simpler doesn't mean I don't get it. You must not have read my post. And I'd hate to use your apps or software if you don't care about usability.....lol.

As much as I’m looking forward to digging in to power of this feature I do think there is potential for both confusion and perhaps even downright exploitation for less technically inclined users. I think we’ll definitely see people confused that their phone is doing X, and it’s just because it’s part of a Workflow they installed but don’t understand. I think the clock is absolutely ticking on sensationalist headlines of SIRI Sending iPhone Users Contacts to Russian Email Address!*
*when said users explicitly install and execute a workflow that does just that
With great power comes great responsibility.
There are security features to prevent that. For example, apps cannot assign Siri shortcuts to phrases. Apps can pop up the interface, but the user needs to actually record the trigger phrase and agree to add the shortcut.

You really aren't business savy. Do you think most of the market is "phone smart people", as you would say? No, they aren't.
And this is way beyond what any normal person would know how to do. I've been using it, and I like what I can do with it, but most people aren't going to know what/how to do it. Just because you know how doesn't mean the average Joe is going to know how. As I said in my original post, I sell phones and help people with them all day. This is going to be a problem for 95% of the people. They aren't going to know how to use this app or how to create their own. So get off your high horse and come down to reality.
given that you actually have to speak a sentence and click some buttons to install, and that the workflow can only do what apps enable it to do (and apps are still checked by Apple before being permitted on the store), and given that there is no auto-launch of shortcuts (you have to speak or tap an icon or the like), I'm not concerned about my less technically-inclined family members.Yep, I know. I’m not suggesting there are drive-by type exploits. I’m suggesting it’d be very much like any other malware on macOS. Intentionally installed by a user who is not aware of its true purpose. Claiming to do one thing, actually doing another. You and I probably won’t get caught out, but plenty will.
This feature isn't made for "most people." Companies are allowed to make features for power users. You really aren't business savy. Actually, that's incorrect. The Shortcuts API is absolutely about teaching Siri new skills. The shortcuts app is about layering them as commands, across multiple applications (info from maps, text from messages, changes to Home, controlling podcast in one command). The point still is that developers will be utilizing the Shortcuts API to add more hooks into Siri, teaching it how it can have deeper interaction within third-party apps. You're getting confused with Skills vs. Workflows. Siri Shortcuts is not about teaching Siri new skills, but about bringing several skills together into a custom workflow designed around your personal needs. So rather than ask Siri to do 10 different things, you say one thing, and the workflow runs, which itself contains the 10 things to do. Make sense now?
For all the people criticizing Siri's inability to control Spotify — this puts the power back in Spotify's developers hands.
https://developer.apple.com/sirikit/
Part of the speculation on voice triggers is that these will then be accessible via the HomePod. That, however, raises an interesting question of: if I create a voice trigger, will my wife also be able to activate it?It's not clear if shortcuts work at all on HomePod; I assume not, or not yet.
Well, yes and no. Yes in the sense that Spotify can now create a custom intent, which users can create a shortcut for.
No in the sense that there's still no SiriKit intent for controlling music.
In particular, this probably means it still isn't possible to ask HomePod to play music through Spotify. But it should be possible for Spotify to create their own custom intents, then for the user to create a shortcut (maybe like "Hey Siri, spotify Ed Sheeran"), and then to trigger that from iPhone.
(I could be mistaken. It's not clear if shortcuts work at all on HomePod; I assume not, or not yet.)
Is that not what this is?
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/sirikit/media_shortcuts
HomePod — like Apple TV — has a smaller set of Siri controls. That's is true. Doesn't rule out Siri control of Spotify on other devices.
One thing though, now with Siri on iCloud, Siri intelligence is shared from device to device so while the homepod may not have all the capabilities the iPhone does, there is a good chance that the intelligence of shortcuts can still be transferred as long as it is not a request that needs input or screen output.
I thought I had seen that, but couldn't find it!
In any case, that's slightly confusing, because those intents aren't in the Intent Domains section here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/sirikit, nor in "Domains and Intents" here: https://developer.apple.com/sirikit/
Other portions of those pages have already been updated for iOS 12, so I'm not entirely sure a full-fledged media domain will actually ship?
Or it's simply a documentation error. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think so — Siri in iCloud synchs on-device machine learning data across all devices connected to a particular account, that will include Siri suggestions and shortcuts, but it doesn't necessarily mean that Homepod has access or the ability to act on them.I think that only applies to stuff like prioritization, knowing contacts, etc., not about making entire domains available.
Because this isn't a pro feature? That was easy. And if you're serious as to, "Why is this a problem", then you aren't business savvy either. Oh well. The old Apple is dead, welcome to the new, bloated, complex Apple of Tim Cook. Yeah, I love Apple and am a fanboy, you could say, but I'm becoming less and less of one. It seems that some of you are hardcore fanboys who don't care how far they stray and how complex they become, disregarding their user base, which is why it's a problem. Also, this is what a beta is for...to offer them constructive criticism. Yes, it's too complex. If you hate the fact that tons of people are saying that, well, I'm sorry. Either way, if they make it simpler, you will still be able to use it, along with the rest of the people that have iPhones. So what's the problem with making it simpler? Y'all's logic is not really on track. Why does this app have to be for "most of the market"? Why can't Apple do power user features that only appeal to a fraction?
Why is this a problem?

with a jailbreak, you could do this for years already.Finally. Hey Siri lock this bitch down
Locks all doors and turns off all lights in the house. I’ve been waiting years to do this ...

Works today if you install homebridge
Interesting how many of you are experts in all three......
