So glad this is Europe only. Now all the whiners who keep complaining Apple ignores that continent b/c the U.S. gets everything Apple first (even if that just may be because of logistics and not bias) can tais-toi. What a great gift that is.

Hey, I was all set to come in here and complain that the 12 Days of Christmas didn't start until Christmas Day itself.

Good on ya, Apple, for not being idiots like the folks at Starbucks. Also, it'd be great if this came to the US this year...

They've given out some stellar things in the past. The Knowing Me Knowing Yule special was great! Rekindled my love for the Partridge.

Downloaded and ready to go :).

as a US iTunes customer too bad we don't get this.

however, cheers and Merry Christmas to all those who can get this app and the freebies. Enjoy them for me.

Yeah, unfortunately the two best videos (that and Father Ted) were both on DVD box sets (that I own)...

'Lesbian Vampire Killers' on the other hand, I'm going to bet no one has on DVD...

You're missing something important. Lots of people get iPhones, iPods and iPads on Christmas Day. Giving away free downloads for every day up to Christmas would be a bit counter-productive wouldn't it?

True, But the point our European friends are making is which Christmas. Not all Europeans celebrate on Dec 25th. Russians are January 7th and Armenians are January 6th.

me neither? as far as getting an iPhone for Xmas? that's a pretty hefty gift (at 749€ prepaid or 1500€ subsidized.) I still think the advent idea makes more sense and would result in more app sales (21-28 days vs. 12 days).

maybe people give each other iPhones for Xmas in the states? i wouldn't know.

A good promotion targets the people most likely to be influenced into making a purchase. That isn't you - you know the Apple storefronts, and you've got your iTunes account already. The target is all those millions of new owners who are looking for something to do with their new presents.

Well if you are going to get that nit-picky not all Europeans celebrate Christmas. There are other religions and people that believe they don't have any at all.

For all intents and purposes, Dec 25th is the official consumer Christmas. That is the one businesses celebrate. Don't take offense because they use that one b/c it's the most widely recognized date it's celebrated worldwide. Also no need to be confused as to which Christmas day they are referring to.

you have no idea how Eastern Europe works. Most of the new iTunes stores were released there and the majority don't celebrate Christmas on Dec 25, most do on Jan 6th (due to the Julian calendar)

lol

Sure you can - just open up an account in an EU app store; as others have pointed out it's easy to do.

You can't buy anything without a form of payment from that region - but if you get a US$ or Eur gift card you can do that as well without a credit card.

Markets and Germany

Well, Apple's founded in Cupertino, so not a problem that the US market is given priority and more in focus , than the European one. Further compared to the emerging markets in Asia / Latin America Europe is kind a small.
I think its a nice give away, allthough the first time the episodes and songs were nice, last time mostly bloody crap.

Concerning the fiscal money story, probably this should be discussed off-topic and with more background office, espacially from people outside Europe- here's something for the background and, happy you, its focussed on the US ;)

And I personally would rather be seen as an European than a German, Italian, French or Spanish one. So please, no more rassist comments, thought we would be over it since a while...

Happy Christmas,
Boun Natale,
Frohe Weihnachten,
Joyeux noël &
feliz navidad!

I'm a little sleepy/tired this morning. I thought I read that you get a free song everyday. I thought, great free xmas songs, sure I'll jump on it. Then I saw the days of the free event and I thought to myself, why the crap is apple giving away free xmas songs After xmas lol. oops.

But you guys pay WAY less than we do for your Mac's....Swings and roundabouts I guess.

I'm sticking a reminder in for the 26th....Be nice to have something useful for free...

US does not have VAT included, Europe does and the exchange rate (and covering oneself against the ups and downs) figures in, plus duty rate (Don't know how much that is for cpu's) and and and...................

To find the real values per country use the McDonalds Big Mac comparison chart system.
Somebody came up with that a few years ago and it is still pretty good.

I totally forgot about Father Ted, already had that on DVD at the time too. But the KMKY ep made me go out and buy the boxset :).

Lesbian Vampire Killers. Blerg. I accidentally started to download that, realised it was a HUGE MISTAKE, tried to cancel but it just automatically started downloading again on each reboot. On slow internet that was not fun.

Not only is it still not available in the Canadian iTunes Store, it's for iOS 4.3 or later (too bad for us stuck on 3.1.3).

And then there was the film itself once you had downloaded it. Painful!

"For those without an iOS device, Apple says to come back to iTunes on December 26th to download gifts from your computer." :)
