This is one area where longtime Android users will be frustrated, is getting things into their iPhone all involves stupid iTunes...

you should not need a guide when you plug in an android device to your PC or Mac it becomes an external drive allowing you to look in all the folders to transfer things from the phone to the computer unlike iPhone

I wish my iPhone worked just like an old digital camera :roll eyes:

Great 1990's technology there. I have enough devices that are a jumbled mess of random naming structures, dates, file types, and sources. My iPhone is not a USB stick. Keeping track of photos in something like iPhoto or managing music through iTunes is infinitely more preferable than an open file manager. I can get files of any type of from any source, and simply add them to those programs and I get them clearly organised with the correct tags and/or album covers. Sure the iPhone is not totally independent as a result, but how many people that also own a smartphone don't also have a computer of some description? I don't like organising my 100GB song library or my 200GB photo library on a small touch screen.

Here is your guide:

1. Buy tree.
2. Bring home.
3. Dig hole.
4. Put tree in hole.
5. Fill hole with dirt.
6. Water the tree.

Do I plant it in a shaded area? Should I live in a temperate zone? How often do I have to water it? What insects do I need to prevent it from? How soon do I get the pomegranates? What is the best time of year to plant it?

Great guide, though! Looking forward to Pomegranate 2.0! ;)

ALL of my android friends are switching to iPhone 6 and 6+ now. I know that's not a lot but other people friends are probably doing the same.

I have one friend who is definitely switching, too. He didn't previously like Apple that much, but has grown to dislike Google, and saw how I enjoyed my Apple products. :)

Is it really hard enough to need a support document for it? I mean, it was pretty simple when I made the switch a few years back... But I'm probably not representative of Android users, I guess.

For those new to iOS its a different mindset, and if your new to using iTunes then its all new. its not about copy and paste its about learning the operation and sync function of a new piece of software.

I own and use multiple apple products does that mean I cannot find negativity it the company?

Of course you can, and should. Apple is very capable of mistakes and is by no means infallible.

The lack of an open file manager is not something I miss however. I have a Mac and PC to manage files.

If you plant it in a walled garden, you don't need to worry about those things.

There is nothing wrong with iTunes. Most Windows users just hate it because it's Apple's software.

on Macs.. yea no issue here.. but using it in Windows.. it's a bloated mess, so yea Windows users have a legitimate complaint. also, for Apple to still insist you use it to do something simple like transfer files? that's just silly

At least you'll still get all your messages - shame the same cant be said if you was moving in the other direction. ;)

What's so stupid about it? It's Apple forcing you to use their software sure. However it's pretty good software and does it's job brilliantly. The idea of manually dragging each and every song and photo onto my iPhone like a thumb drive sounds like stone age madness having used iTunes for 4 years.

funny, all of my android fans arent. Plus a lot of iphone users dont like the 6, some of them are buying 5s instead...

Maybe the Eagles should have played 'Hotel California' instead of U2 playing... Whatever they played.

Ah yeah

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax, " said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave! "

iTunes... cringe

that itself will disuade a lot of people

Learn it, its not hard. A one stop backup/restore/sync function. get a new iDevice? Connect, start new device, restore from backup, and then your new device is identical to the old one, add the wifi and email password and its complete. No manual setting up required. Priceless

This also highlights one of the major annoyances of switching to iOS. The dreaded iTunes. Something windows users avoid like the plague.

Switching is easier than ever now that Google has created some pretty nice iOS apps for all of their services. Even if you are embedded deeply into their ecosystem, you should be able to access all of your data fairly quickly if you're making the switch to iPhone (download the apps, login, and go). Then over time you can decide what data, if any, you'd like to move to Apple or 3rd party services.

The same is not true when moving from iOS to any other operating system. Which, of course, is intentional.

I don't know.... If you're deep in to Apple ecosystem, it's very hard to find another ecosystem that is as good as Apple. With Apple, everything is integrated and so easy to setup and just works. Yes, just worked.

My personal usage:

- I use my mac for work, which sync with all of my iDevices without me doing any hardcore configuration but an iCloud account. When I want to watch a movies, I can watch it in my Mac, or when I need the couch, I send it to my Apple TV with 1 click and I'm on the couch. When I have friends/family gathering, I can show them pictures/video through my Apple TV "wirelessly", clumsy cable. They can connect to my wifi and show me their stuff, again, wirelessly, no setup, no cable. When my wife wants to send a hundred of pics that she just took, we turned on AirDrop and 30 seconds later, the pics are in my iPhone. Basically, everything works together so seamlessly, it makes life a lot easier and saves a LOT of time and frustration. I didn't have to spend hours and hours configuring things to make them work together.

- There're fireTV, googleTV, samesung phones, amazon phones, google phones, etc. The problem is you need to spend some real quality time with them if you want them to function the same as Appl's.

It's very good if you know how to use it. It's a different way of doing things that most people who aren't used to Apple's way of using a mac. My wife, who isn't a tech person, has never run in to any big issue with iTunes. She loves it and use it for everything.

The windows version is a little more troublesome alright I'll admit.

But on the issue of needing iTunes to transfer files? I don't see why you'd rather drag and drop everything in a random mess

Don't you like correct artist titles, album covers and file info?

I moved from Crapdroid a couple years ago. Didn't need iTunes and I haven't used it to manage my iPhone. iTunes is not a requirement.

no I will be switching back to apple, but if you own any android device you know how easy it is to get thing from it too your computer

really this guide is how to setup an iPhone it has nothing to do with if you had an android prior

Ummm with OSX you need the Android File transfer app which is buggy pice of ****.

As posted, iTunes hate is cos the hater is from the other side. Like any new software, learn it. Google/Youtube just the function you need to learn. Easy

been a Mac user for years.. i don't need to learn it. i'm just saying that a lot of people genuinely don't like iTunes.. why is that so hard for some of you to accept? not everything Apple makes is the best way to do things.
