You clearly don't understand economics yourself or have never owned a business. The point is to always increase sales. It was reported months ago that Tim Cook would like to sell 50% of iPhones in their own stores. Best Buy is a Pawn for Samsung with more of their branding visible than best buy once you get inside. Even on their flyers. That is not the experience Apple wants their customers to have. In the Apple Stores they don't have to share the profit, and they can sell accessories, warranty upgrades, and Macs. This deal also get to sell the refurbished models for additional profit. At Best Buy Apple products are hidden in the far corner where only those who go looking could find them.

I'm inclined to agree with you on Best Buy. My experience is that BB employees make verbal misrepresentations to discourage sales of Apple products. The best one a BB staffer told me was that Macs are not good because "they have so many viruses".

I was only using the demo Mac to get info on a different location. The unrelated item I wanted was not in stock there. BB folks go out of their way to sell anything but Apple.

Weak promotion. I'm sure they can do better than this. They must want to squeeze as many devices out before the iPhone 6 drops.

Apple's inventory

Apple discloses it's inventory in its quarterly and annual SEC filings. As of March 31, 2014, Apple had 5.3 days worth of sales in inventory, including inventory in transit.

That is an average for all products, so it is possible that Apple has a higher inventory of iPhones. However, it seems unlikely that Apple needs a major price cut to rid itself of a bloated inventory of Iphones.

Some have missed the point. Yes - there's no real "deal" to be had. The point is to market the idea to those that might be ignorant to the fact that they can trade their phone in for credit towards a new phone. Not everyone knows that. It's also a way to decrease the # of older phones in the marketplace while increasing newer phones since phones traded in won't' be given to relatives, etc.

It's an awareness campaign. Not a "sale"

Well I just found out this is not actually the case. Just went to my local Apple Store and was told that you can only trade in an iPhone for an iPhone or an iPad for an iPad, but not an iPhone for an iPad. :( Man, I had gotten my hopes up and everything!

Not true! You can absolutely trade in an iPhone for an iPad. Go back and talk to someone else and make them re-check the policy if they refuse again. Go get your iPad! :)
