Ok... So I just counted the positive and negative votes since the first iBook and Powerbook up to this MBP.

Positive: 5,633
Negative: 5,202

I can't believe nearly HALF of people that vote in those are unsatisfied! Are the Macbook Pros no good or something? You people are crazy! lol. Quit whining and enjoy incremental updates. Or go follow another companies lineup refreshes and see that they do the SAME small update releases.

Sheesh

and if you tell me that it is just a statistical anomaly, then ok... why do we even have the voting system.

I agree that people can whine a bit too much about Apple refreshses...that said, were not crazy for doing so. When a company charges as much as Apple does for it's products AND touts those very products as "revolutionary", its hard not to be disappointed by incremental changes. Apple places far too much priority on it's iOS products...while throwing it's dedicated user base(us Mac folk) a very expensive and underwhelming bone every year. That isnt cool.

I'm sure I'm not the first one on here to do this, but I just checked the previous specs (here) - the battery life has gone down as follows:

10 hours -> 7 hours on the 13"
8-9 hours -> 7 hours on the 15" and 17"

Yet they're still calling it "amazing battery life." Huh??

New MBP vs iMac

Considering a new purchase and have been debating whether to get a MBP or an iMac. Aside from the obvious comparisons on screen size and portability, how will the speed of these machines compare now that both have an i7 quad core?

I have a 2.8 Ghz i7 Quad Core iMac at work that is plenty fast for me. Can I expect the 2.2 Ghz MBP Sandy Bridge to be in the same ballpark in terms of running Photoshop or Logic Pro?

It still kicks the **** out of most other laptops battery lives.

So... My new replacement machine should be in my hands sometime early next week. Apple ordered me a new 2.8 i7 15" to replace a "lemon." Are these new machines that were launched today worth the hassle of trying to get Apple to give me a true current model? Thanks!

This is hardly an incremental change. We've been clamoring for quad-core laptops forever -- now it's here and it's standard! I don't get what everybody wanted. The hybrid SSD thing was a dumb idea -- in 2-3 years SSD's will be cheap enough for all of us to upgrade into a full 500GB SSD drive.

As has been restated constantly, they changed their measurement metric to be more realistic.

I too use a 13" for real work, i am constantly moving from office to office, the 13" was the best choice for me as far as weight and portability, most of the people I know that go with the 15 and 15" models dont really use their notebooks as portable devices, they occasionally carry it to and from work but it generally just sits on a single desk all day.

exactly, i can see the same in the office, most of 15 and 17 inchers stay there. 13" is absolutely perfect for me, can fit my slr and 3 lenses + laptop and accessories in one bag

this is odd. Sandy Britches is supposedly more efficient.

The 13" has no extra cores, so this makes no sense at all

thinking of going with one of the 15" models, does anyone know how much of a difference is between the AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB GDDR5 and the 6750M with 1GB GDDR5? I'm mainly using the computer for CAD work and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Will the upgraded graphics card be very noticeable?

I had never heard of this Thunderbolt before, but it sounds awesome. I'll manage with my current 2010 MacBook Pro tough.

I'm saving my money for the iPad 2! exited and hopeful for what Apple will show on 2nd march :)

Looking to get a 13" MBP in the next few months... very happy with this update EXCEPT I'm very disappointed that there's no BTO 1440x900 resolution...

Lol, people complain about everything. It's like sex people complain it wasn't good, but they have nothing to offer. Same thing here. People complain and have nothing but hot air to offer.

Food for thought: If you complain here about a computer, look at your sex life, boring period "end quote" :D

Not sandybridge!!!

So i was just curious to know if the new quadcore i7's are actually sandybridge because far as i know intel sandybridge is only dual core.

I contacted apple and they actually told me that they are NOT sandybridge processors. It is an equivalent to it. Not only that but also said that the names for processors are only for PC and not mac. Apple do not get their processors named!

ANY THOUGHT!? should this effect anyone from buying it?!

Hm, I never mentioned it is a "horrible" one. I mentioned it is "one of the worst" one. I do not need to prove my point of view to you or anyone. Make your own mind and convince yourself whatever you want to believe in.

You cant just make a statement with nothing to back it up?

at the moment your statement is merely hyperbole until you follow it with concrete reasons for your opinion.

Sandy bridge is actually quite more efficient than the previous gen based on benchmarks of other notebooks. It's part of the reason Apple was able to go quad, I imagine.

ok no sata 3 for now!!

was talking to us:apple sales, and this is what they said:

-I'm still researching this for you.
-Thanks for your patience.
-The MacBook Pro does not offer support for sata 3 at this time.
-It seems that Sata 3 is best used for RAID type drives to maximize performance.
-In a notebook, this is generally not needed.

If you can afford it go for the 6750M and High Res - no question. In the end it will last you longer and you will work better so it is worth in my opinion.
