I think first of I would like to say to those moaning about the Intel graphics, shut up. Because Apple had to do something and it did. And don't maon just because you were ALL wrong predicitng Apple would get rid of the ODD!
If you don't like the new 13" model then fine, wait until next years revision with better GPU. You are getting a core i7 option!
in fact the new top end 13" model is FASTER then my top of the range 2010 15" Pro!!!!!

As for the 15" and 17"!!! Holy crap! Great update of the hardware, fantastic! Quad core in a machine less then an inch thick and decent graphics! And the SSD prices have dropped too...

Bad part of this is the price in general I think is more! And the utterly stupid 'Thunderbolt' name!

I have to mostly agree. Yes, I've been moaning but mostly cause of the battery. But truth be told, I'm curious how accurate the new tests are and what they did (if there tests are accurate and more stringent than how I use my laptop when it's not plugged in, I'll change from being upset to impressed. I get about 7.5 hours with my usage which is exactly the stuff apple claims this laptop can get 10 hours with, safari, wifi, word, with half brightness).

But, as for graphics, it was a necessary evil unfortunately. I will say I'm impressed with the chip they put in (I expected only an i3 chip truth be told, but I did expect the c2d would go away since it is discontinued). And I am doubly impressed they allow you to step the chip up not just in speed, but to a even better chip. That's a move in the right direction imho (I'd like to see them offer a powerhouse 13" as well as the base model).

Granted, I'm not in the market for one (I have a 2010 and I feel unless you have money to burn which I most certainly do not, upgrading every year just to update is silly. Though if I did make a good living I might update a year later if they put out something really appeasing. In this case, I'd probably just stick with what I have).

But it does mean in the future they'll probably address graphics card/battery and by the time I'm ready to update maybe they'll have something pretty good (and an option to pay more for a much more powerful one, vs. what they did in the past where the higher end 13" wasn't even worth the extra money. That is where I'm excited about this launch, future potential for a higher end 13" availability).

so does anyone want to buy a late 2010 15" 2.8ghz, hi-res anti-glare screen?

:D

I really want the new 17. miss mine ever since it was stolen...

Those prices are insane! Sure, Macs are great, but you can get a similar Dell 17" laptop for $700 at Costco - you really want to spend 350% as much on a Mac with similar functionality and usability? I'm not saying the Dell is as good as a Mac, necessarily, but the premium Apple is trying to extract on these is completely out of line.

Choice is yours. They may work similarly on day one (windoze vs OSX battle aside) but think about day 1000.

Re: Dell vs Apple

How many dells would you have to buy to achieve the longevity and resale value of a MBP? I had a dell laptop in medical school that didn't last all 4 years. I bought a PowerBook right after that that I've had since- pushing 7 years. I admit that this is a stretch and I can't do much with the PowerBook anymore but it still runs great and it can do everything it could do in 2005 whereas the Dell has long ago been scrapped. If you're planning to buy a new laptop every 2-3 years anyway then the arguement boils down to the OS, brand, aesthetics ect.

Exactly, I would love to buy one, but then I would love the next new one etc etc etc. I would in fact seriously look at the 13" with those specs! But yes, next year I think they will do a total redesign and they have at last ditched the Nvidia graphics, their is nothing to stop Apple working with AMD/ ATI to create something for the 13" model, they did do that with Nvidia after all. And it won't have the stupid Intel vs Nvidia legal mess around it's neck.

I am personally going to buy the iPhone 5 I think so long as it's a good upgrade, I actually need more storage then my iPhone 4's 16gb, damn you app store. That's my treat for the year and MUCH cheaper then a new laptop lol!

For all the people there with the "Must have the latest" mindset, try naming your Mac. I've named my 2010 MBP Sammy (Sam for short) and though it may seem a bit weird, It kind of makes the idea of selling it for something new seem wrong in some ways.

Thanks for the clarification.

I would like to browse the marketplace. Although I have been with MacRumors since 2008 I do not have enough post. Kinda makes me mad

So now I have to post more just to get the 'privilege' to view the marketplace.

Why all the negativity?

It seems like this thread is in the negative as far as votes! Why is that? Is the majority here disappointed with this refresh? Did the final products not live up to your expectations you got from all the rumors? Just curious as to why all the negative votes...

Apple releases a new series of MacBook Pros.
They go above and beyond what we all thought they would do.
*Dual i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge chips in the 13s (We expected i3s at best),
*Quad i7 Sandy Bridge chips across the board in the 15 and 17s (We expected Dual i5s and Dual i7s at best)
*1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
*Thunderbolt, a new I/O System that made all other I/O subsystems (including USB 3.0) overnight.
*SDXC Card Slot (up from SC card slot)
*Larger Hard Drives across the board

Last year a lot of haters complained that the 13" didn't have the i3 Processor.

It was explained that in order to give you the i3, you'd have to settle for less graphics processing power (because Intel doesn't let you use a separate INTEGRATED graphics chip [BTW, the 13" machines have NEVER had a dedicated chip for those of you who believe the 9400M and 320M are dedicated chips] with the iX chips) and less battery life. That is why they went with the Core 2 Duo last year. The haters said they didn't care, they wanted a processor that wasn't 2 years old.

Now they release the new models, the have i5s and i7s (and you wanted i3s, HA!), and now you complain that the new models have ONLY 7 hours of battery life and that the Graphics are 8% slower. THIS IS WHAT THEY TOLD YOU WOULD HAPPEN IF THEY DID THIS, AND YOU SAID YOU WANTED IT! I

I'm playing the worlds smallest Violin for you folks, nothing will make you happy. Even if they could somehow get around the laws of physics and release a MBP with a 2.3 Quad i7 Sandy Bridge, GeForce GTX 580 w/2 GB GDDR5 graphics RAM, 2560 x 1600 display that could be expanded from 13" to 17" with the push of a button, 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM, 1 TB SSD on SATA-6 bus, 5 USB 3.0 Ports, 2 FW 800 Ports, 2 Thunderbolt Ports, Ethernet, ExpressCard Slot, BlueRay, 20 hours of battery life, and make it a quarter of an inch think for $799 you'd STILL find something to complain about.

If all you want to do is complain about Apple products, why are you here? Isn't there a fandroid forum out there you can troll instead of this one?

okay massive noob question.

is it possible to play games such as counterstrike on the new 13" MBP? is that game card worth anything? the 15" is way out of my price range.

and would the mid-2010 13" MBP be better to cover such high end games?

cheers

still the same ;)
that's called marketing, to make people like you coming wild

Yeah. No.

A Core i5 is not a Core2Duo. These Core i5s have hyperthreading, integrated (and higher frequency) mem controllers, more efficient caching, faster ALU and FPU performance, and TurboBoost.

You not only have no idea what you're talking about, you look ridiculous.

Is the 1GB radeon on the 15" better than last years 512MB 330M? Can someone tell me? I'm new to graphics

A lot of people were looking for the SSD. I think if Apple did that everyone would be complaining about the price then.

The majority of us are upset with the 13" refresh and others with the lack of an SSD <---which is really expensive
