Funny, this model is £199 in the UK.

$199 = £199? Companies should have to abide by realistic conversion rates.

By my working out, the 16GB iPod Touch should cost a max of £120 here in the UK. With proper conversion rates.

Considering the new pricing for the iPod Touch, what I would really like to see happen to the iPhone price point for this holiday season is:

8GB iPhone 5c - $0
16GB iPhone 5s - $99
4.7in. iPhone 6 - $199/$249/$299
5.5in. iPhone 6 - $299/$349/$399
this is not new pricing. it's discounting an old device.

First, you are never going to get a direct Dollar to Pound conversion because our prices include sales taxes and the US prices don't.

Second, the new 16GB hasn't even made it to the UK Apple Store yet.

The 32GB has been reduced to £199 and the 64GB is now £249. Expect the new 16GB model to be priced around £149 to £159 when it hits our shores.

Thanks for explaining this. Knowledge is power!

What's with all the hate about price dropping?

The iPod 16G is a new product. The previous one had less functionality. And more expensive.

Perhaps too many people are expecting too much. Apple execs have been discussing the "exciting pipeline of new products" for too long. Everyone wants/expects something great is coming.

This new, iterative, placeholder release has not met their expectations.

The half-price memory upgrade is what's really exciting here. It has to translate to other products (phones, iPads) as it sets a precedent and is long overdue.

The prices on the memory upgrades from 16GB to 64GB are FINALLY at 2014 like levels.

It does seem like many are expecting huge changes each year when there is only so much that can be done. Not sure what else the iPod touch could do at the moment. It has it's market the new pricing is nice.

Good deal...

People still buy ipod touches ? They remind me too much of an mp3 player with browser add on.

Hope so. Anything for a larger screened Ipod. But must have 64gb or more option.

It's called an iPad Mini.

Really, the iPad Mini is probably why Apple hasn't focused on the iPod Touch. Most people buy iPod Touches for games, music, and browsing. For those type of things, having a large screen is great, thus I imagine most people just opt for an iPad Mini.

What?!?!..who need ipod touch 16gb anyway?..come on!!i just need at least 128 gb ipod touch, to listen to my thousand lossless music library..

what hate. I'm pointing out the obvious. it's a price drop on a device that is 2 years old, which is pretty normal. I don't expect this pricing to affect the prices of the iPhone 6 in any way.

Well is most likely WILL affect iPhone 6 pricing... memory jumps should now be $50 instead of $100.

SDXC memory card pricing

SDXC memory card pricing

I see advertisements of 128 GB SDXC cards for under US$85 retail each. These cards run at 30 MB/second; not blazingly fast but fast enough for video recording and playback. Why doesn't Apple put an SDXC port on any iPad, iPod, or iPhone? Because too many people are willing to pay outrageous memory upgrade prices for Apple's take it or leave it packaging.

While you can get an SD card reader attachment for an iPad, it can be used only for loading photos and videos.

The less portable and more expensive Mac Book Air does have an SD port which can mount a memory card to be treated as just another disk, but this port is available only on the more expensive 13 inch model.

And spanning an iTunes library would cause hassles.

I agree, having cheap memory cards would be ideal to get mass storage at better prices. Apple have sat firm on internal memory.

You could always get an external powered hard drive and network it. Sometimes that works out cheaper than jumping up the memory.

Not all external solutions are the same though. Some require copying to the internal memory before you can use them. Not ideal really.

The less expensive Mac Book Air can also use an SD memory card as a disk, but this requires the purchase of a USB/SD adapter.

An entire iTunes library can be relocated with a single symbolic link to the ~/Music/iTunes directory. And there are ways to spread a filesystem across multiple devices.

For the price of an iPod Touch you can get an equal or better Android smart phone with the same basic application set plus phone capability -- and this on a cheap prepaid plan with unlimited talk and text which doesn't have a hidden charge for paying for the phone itself. And you can bet that the Android gadget will get official support long after Apple drops support for any of its offerings.

Hi res iPod Touch in September?

Am I the only hopeful person left in this forum?
I know that iPod sales are declining and I don't think Apple really cares.
But I guess Apple does care about not being in the pole-position in the music-player market anymore.

Apple just announced HD sound-playback.
This coincided with the release of two HD players for the consumer market.
Sony's walkman carries 128GB, is still quite expensive but got close to the top version of the iPod Touch.
PONO proved the yearning for better sound-quality and single purpose devices with an unexpectedly high support on kickstarter.
(here again 128GB of storage)
Apple probably does not care about those few millions, still it's a sign.

My read on this price drop is. They like to empty the shelves for a new iPod generation.

Lot's of iPod Touch users still stick to their 4th generation device.
Why? Because the last upgrade was not that exciting.
September is close, I'll wait it out.

This is still a phenomenal product and it's quite amazing pricing now starts at just $199 for all that incredible technology. This is a great device for those who want the best of mobile iOS without cellular service.

I smell an xmas gift or two this year!

considering the new pricing for the ipod touch, what i would really like to see happen to the iphone price point for this holiday season is (on contract us):

8gb iphone 5c - $0
4.0in. Iphone 6c - $99/$149 (16/32)
4.7in. Iphone 6 - $199/$249/$299 (32/64)
5.5in. Iphone 6xl - $299/$349/$399 (32/64/128)

ftfy

Personally I believe Apple will come up with distinct marketing names for the different sizes, so throw out your ideas for the 5.5"! (6XL?)
