Wonder what this means for Family Sharing? My wife has an iTunes balance, but we've been struggling to find a good way to use it.

I’m not aware of a scenario where Family Sharing would be able to take advantage of any member’s account balance.

I'm also wondering if this affects being able to use the Apple Card to finance new products from Apple. What if I want to use my iTunes balance, and my Apple Card?

It appears you can do that.

I hope this isnt the first step to closing iTunes purchases for good and move to all streaming

I can't add existing Apple Gift Cards to Apple Balance. Should I be able to?

So, by combining two types of cards into one, we trade random iTunes card discount with a bit less confusion of card types. Not sure if this is a bad trade in and out of itself.

Rip my plan to save up a bit on inapp purchases. Guess those discount cards are gone forever.

Unlikely. Content providers make more money when Apple sells you a movie or TV show at regular price, than bundle everything as part of a streaming package.

Yes. I added iTunes gift cards to iTunes a couple of hours ago, and the balance immediately showed up in my ”Apple Account Balance” that I view with the Apple Store app, i.e. the app where you buy hardware.

Thank you for the response. I was referring to Apple Store Gift Cards and not iTunes Gift Cards though. Any thoughts on this situation?

Should work just fine, considering it worked for me today “going the opposite way”.

You tried it and it didn’t work?

It did not work. I have several Apple Store Gift Cards. After trying to enter the code I get prompted with " Error - You must enter a valid code". I've tried several of my cards. I am able to confirm that there are balances with each card I have tried.

I’m gathering by this language on the new Apple Gift Card page that old Apple Store gift cards cannot be added to an Apple Balance.

Within the Apple Store app, you click on your name/icon, view Apple Account Balance, then Redeem Gift Card.

If that doesn’t work, you should call Apple. Nothing in that image/language implies that existing Apple Store Gift Cards cannot be redeemed in the manner I described above.

That is a great thing that Apple finally combine all gift cards together.

Apple Gift Cards, App Gift Cards, iTunes Gift cards, Apple Music gift cards, iBook Gift Cards, etc, are always very confusing!

When iTunes cards go on sale at Costco/BestBuy/Target then who determines the discount percentage? Does Apple need to approve it or is that a retailers loss.

Just curious because I buy 15-20% off iTunes Gift Cards whenever they come around and I’m curious if thats going to go away.
Usually anything discounted is at a loss to the seller when it comes to Apple products. Apple cuts NO ONE deals on their products. Selling Apple products comes with extremely tight margins. Unless Apple is doing some sort of promo where there are giving some kind of kickback to cover the loss, the choice to discount is up to the retailer.
(I used to work for an authorized retailer and service shop)

I don't seem to be able to add the two Apple gift cards that I have in the Wallet app. It gives an error code. I think that it probably only works if you have a physical gift card.

Maybe they'll still run that promo where they give you 15% bonus when you "top up" your iTunes/App Store balance? I sure hope so because my strategy for a while has been to wait for those promos and then get $100 or so credit to pay for iCloud etc for the coming months.

I’m having the same situation. Though I have the physical card as well and that doesn’t work either.

Anyone know if it's possible to apply a gift card balance to a Mac, and *then* finance the rest on an Apple Card? Would I need to call perhaps?

I'm having a similar problem, trying to add an Apple gift card (from 2019) to my account. I successfully added another one but this one refuses to work. Did you ever resolve this?

I believe you are correct.

You could try going to an Apple Store and buying the new gift card with your old one.

Definitely means no more 20% discounted iTunes gift cards, RIP in peace - it was great while it lasted. Makes me feel a bit better about switching to Verizon Unlimited for Apple Music, saves a few bucks a month.

Yes. This is exactly what this means. The days of 15% and 20% discounted iTunes cards will end.

The reason is because this newer "Everything Apple gift card" is also intended to purchase direct APPLE HARDWARE (in Apple Stores) such as iPads and Macs and their expensive high-margin accessories. And we all ******* know by now that Apple is stingy and cheapskate about the very idea of discounting Apple hardware whatsoever.

So everyone say buh-bye to the discounted iTunes gift cards. I speak truth.
