In 2011, I would have been all over this. But in 2015, I just want my stuff to be reliable.

Luckily, better reliability may be a result of more beta testers. But I won't be one of them.

Sounds like you've gotten older in those 4 years. I attribute this feeling to just being older and wiser with less time to futz around with partially finished software.

We look back with rose colored glasses, I installed Mavericks and Yosemite beta 1 for work purposes and ended up using them full-time with little if any issue.

Meanwhile I have no reason to install 10.10.3 beta, so I won't as it's just not worth my time. I don't think this says anything about declining quality in Apple's software.

Same here! Imagine the day Apple announced Siri. That's this day for me.

I'm going to be able to check out Siri in my language!

Edit: Ugh, signed up to the Beta Program, not seeing any iOS Beta either.

If you don't mind me asking, which language are you looking to try out with Siri?

Hmm I had no problems getting it set up on my iPad. I'm too reliant on my iPhone to do a beta test on it. Anyways maybe you'll get it in a few hours as part of a gradual rollout to prevent all of the iOS beta testers from overwhelming their servers like the DNS thing yesterday?
*I don't know much about that type of stuff so please don't take my comment seriously if I'm way off

I think it would too. But then, its possible to do this in OS X. (In fact in OS X you don't even need to install the 'profile', you can just use plutil in terminal to modify the update catalog location...)

I guess it depends on whether public beta 1 requires activation (probably not by the sounds of it!). In which case it would be easier to download the ipsw and install thru iTunes!

But is public beta 1 the exact same build as the Dev beta 3...that begs that question.

Hah, you are suggesting that the beta 3 can be restored to any iOS device... well someone give it a go then and see what happens :D

Would sharing the mobileconfig file let everyone else download the beta?

I wouldn't recommend it.

According to the warning prompt when installing the profile:

"This version of iOS is only for use by members of the Apple Developer Program or Apple Beta Software Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state, which could necessitate an out of warranty repair."

Hmm. Out of interest, those who've been invited, have you ever submitted feedback on the OS X Beta through Feedback Assistant?

I had originally signed up both my apple ids back when Yosemite enrollment began, and only have iOS access on the Appleseed site for the account that i've submitted OS X feedback on.

Option for iOS Beta Program appeared next to the Yosemite beta at the link quoted in the article. Just backing up my devices now and then will install.

Yes, lots and I am able to download the iOS beta.

Do I must have installed public beta for OS X to have the change to get access for the public iOS Beta? I really want the iOS Beta 8.3.

No, I was running 10.10.2 when they started rolling out. But I had installed it before.

In the UK and downloading now, I did send feedback for the OS X Betas several times.

I can live with a beta on my laptop, but a beta on my phone is a no go Apple. QA it yourself - we aren't lab rats.

i didn't receive an invite and i sent feedback a few times. I'm not stressing though pretty much i get apple has to do a staggered and selective choosing of who the beta invites go to.

That's just legal stuff they say to cover themselves in case something goes wrong. Even then, I would just restore from my backup. If its a software issue there shouldn't need to be any out of warranty repairs necessary.

On that note, can I ask for the file here on macrumors or is it against forum rules...?

Well, I got an e-mail inviting me to try the iOS beta, but the link in the e-mail only takes me to the page for the OS X beta.

For anyone who does have the beta, and has installed it. I'd be very curious to know if you can rate and leave a review for an app when you are using the beta.

I'm really hoping Apple has decided to limit this functionality for the betas, as it is a little unfair to rate or review an app poorly based on a beta OS.

This! Beta testers, stay classy! Do not downvote apps because they will not work on a beta. Contact the developer directly and let them know, so they can provide a fix.

Status: Had access to the beta since 3pm Eastern time. Backing up and installing now.
