Why would you think it’s not possible or worth looking into though? There will be advances in the future that will make things like this a reality.

Although not similar to what this article is talking about, the Apple Watch has prevented death or bad outcomes with its fall detection, location tracking, and ECG monitor. Technically it has already prevented some things from happening.
Prevent. The key word is prevent. There is no way a watch can prevent a virus. Detect….yes. Prevent….no.

Does the Apple Watch even call emergency services if your heart rate is far to low that you could go into shock or something? If not. That should be a feature to saves lives. Especially if someone heart rate drops far to low. I worry about that cause my dad passed many years ago from a enlarged heart and died in his sleep.

Detect early, isolate - prevent virus spreading and others catching it. That may actually end up being you or a loved one.
Nope. Now, my comment that was directed at someone else…is being taken out of context. Context matters.
Btw, I’m all for this study. I would be happy to participate. But, don’t take what I’ve said out of context.

Because we shouldn’t fear catching a cold.

COVID-19 will be a distant memory soon enough. Then we can go back to coughing on each other.

Maybe in the US and only if you do not travel because in the rest of the world ... based on todays vaccination rate, I would be eligible for my first dose in September. However, since they are most likely stopping Astrazena and J&J vaccines for good soon, it might as well be 2022

We’re all going to catch it. It’s just a matter of when and which mutation of the original virus that we catch that determines if it impacts us more than any other generic cold virus.

Regardless, by the time the watch set off a warning, you’ve already have been contagious for quite a bit. Better to just never leave the pod.

Well I hope you can become vaccinated soon. I’d give you my spot in line if I could as I have had Covid-19 and have no fear of catching it again. (Will vaccinate but in no particular rush to)

The vaccination development and deployment still has been quite remarkable for being a little over 1 year into this mess regardless of the hiccups that have occurred in production and logistics.

Science is evidence based.
We have that. 😚👨🏼‍🔬

In short, the most icky and dangerous viruses weaken at a more rapid rate until they join the background noise of viruses you are already constantly exposed to (and immune system generally fights off without you even realizing it).

please don’t mistake my flippant replies for denying the severity of Covid-19. But so many have just discovered “science” and act as if they have newly joined a religious, and enthusiastically wield it while not fully understanding it.

In time, there’s no reason to believe it’s not possible. We are still at the very beginning of time for computer technology, not at the middle or end of advancements.

I hear you there. It's the exact same story for me—and I live in Canada.

Early detection of a virus could be very helpful in stopping it from spreading. People could be masking up before they are contagious now, or long into the future. All the social distancing and masking efforts has done a lot to stop covid 19 from spreading and also the seasonal flu had its 'worst' year at trying to spread.
My wife works at a family physician office. She mentioned to me that the # of flu cases during this 'flu season' have plummeted.
