I'm talking about the reality that we currently live in. Not about 50 years from now.
Ok.... so what was the point of your original comment then lol? Saying watches can’t detect or prevent Covid is stating the obvious, was that your intention, to state the obvious?

Add a continuous blood glucose monitor as rumored and I’m sold! That would be a game changer for type one diabetics such as myself and for everyone as understanding how your body responds to what you eat can tremendously improve your health.
And, as a bonus, if FDA approved, your insurance might just pay for your watch; it would be less expensive than the cost of the test strips, or some of the other CGMs.

anything for that dollar!
the flu is getting a virus, and i always knew i got the flu or any virus by that sunken feeling in my congestive track.
a watch is not going to prevent, but scare people.
Yup, studying if outside of a medical facility if it's possible to detect an infection before a 'sunken feeling' seems like a horrible thing to study. People shouldn't be able to know as soon as possible if they're getting sick.

i should have type "detect"( i miss my editor!)
my point is that we do not need a watch to tell us we have a virus, there are too many viruses out there that have many effects on the human body.
That's fair, but then don't opt in.
Lots of other folks have provided great reasons why this can be a good thing.

And to be sure, there are folks out there where catching a flu can have severe health consequences. So early detection can be the difference between life or death, a long recovery, time off from work, etc.

We also don't "need" this discussion forum.

If it helps with detection, especially in a non-invasive way, it's useful.

What does that have to do with anything? It can't detect all viruses; therefore, it shouldn't even try to detect one virus, and currently a very deadly one?

While they're at it, Apple should also have the Apple Watch detect the flu, HIV, AIDS, and all the other diseases. Oh, by the way, did they even know that this COVID-19 virus is survivable?

Ummmm....yeah. It was a response to someone else's comment:

Sometimes you have to point out the obvious. Like the fact that I'm talking about the known. Not the future.
What was your point? We don't know what the future will hold? Isn't that...obvious?

Lol I already said the watch has prevented and detected bad outcomes, because as you quoted again you said “a watch is not going to prevent, but scare people” but that is already not true. Alright this is all beyond pointless now, or maybe..... I’m just stating the obvious too much for you again.

First, I state the obvious for someone who didn't get it. Not you.
Then, you say, to me...things might be different in the future.
I'm like...obviously.
Suddenly, Mr. Obvious, you've got some problem with me clarifying something to someone who is not you.
Now, you're trying to turn my comment, directed at not you, into something it was never about.
Be best!
p.s. I don't think that you get that I never said "a watch is not going to prevent, but scare people". But, the person who did say that...is who I was talking to.

Still waiting for ECG in Australia so it doesn’t matter what new features the watch gets. Australians are stuck at Apple Watch 3 level of features.

Tell that to 5.5 hundred thousand people who had died.

Apple surely is greedy but they’ve been quite good at marketing features that can save lives. For greed? Probably, but still.
Don’t see why you should go with conspiracy theories about fearmongering here.

Because we shouldn’t fear catching a cold.

COVID-19 will be a distant memory soon enough. Then we can go back to coughing on each other.
This has been a good year for seasonal flus etc. because people have been more careful than normal about hygiene.

That's caused by the strict laws against marketing medical devices and advertising health functionality that can't be proven: a bill to relax those laws for devices like Apple Watches was introduced some time ago, but I haven't seen anything about it for ages. Part of the problem is that if they sell watches with unproven ECGs in Australia, they have to be careful about overseas marketing leaking into Australia.
