If you compare to industry standard bulk pricing, I see USB wall chargers in similar size/shape go for $1.25 ea when ordered in 10,000 quantities. So it probably costs them 50 to 60 cents to actually make.
Probably is my point, you don't know!

Why replace those?
According to this guy, the genuine HP Touchpad chargers were considered the best designed charger:

When I connect my ipad to charge, I get the "not charging" message, and charging the ipad for an hour only boosts the battery by 7%. I can charge my ipad using my apple charger in at least half the time.
Probably is my point, you don't know!
Bummer, sounds like the iPad sees it as a 500ma charger.
Oh well, I have one of those chargers too, but I've only used it with my HP Touchpad.
I guess I could rig up an special charge cable someday to make the iPad see it as a 2A...
But I do know it costs less than what a bulk purchase is. So I can make an informed guess based on those facts. That's more than just tossing out a random number. In either case, Apple is still making a very large profit at $10
Possibly, but why are people always trying to decide what a fair margin/price is.
Everybody can vote with their wallet, as the people buying knock offs do.
Plus Apple doesn't offer certain things (Dual car charger etc.)
I went this morning to my local Apple Store.
One person had no idea what I was talking about. Another "heard about it" and had to ask someone else.
The person who knew had to get a Genius to do it as it is considered an Apple Hardware Support issue. That person struggled through the replacement procedure as I was the first one.
They didn't have the charger in stock. I have to go back, wasting more time and gas, when my order comes in.
Turns out, they cannot take retail ones off the shelf, as service replacements are different. Also, I was lead to believe that they will replace it with the EXACT ONE that is for the unit. So, I will be getting an iPad 2 adapter, not one of the newer ones that comes with the newer iPads.
When I find another adapter to bring in, I will do it again. Should be interesting what I get for my iPhone 3GS...
Just a heads up...

Go ahead and schedule a iphone genius appointment if you're planning on swapping in your power adapter, might save a little bit of time.
