I don't see any "Designed by Apple in...." stamping on my USB-C cord for my Macbook. Anyone else?

I've just checked my USB-C cable and cannot find any kind of label. Can anyone confirm this?

Where on the cable? I swear it's not there

Ok, I've found it. It's a tiny text written in grey about 16cm away from the connector.

That or they haven't figured out a material that doesn't break AND doesn't look ugly, but then I wonder how most other companies manage to do that?

They have that material. It's PVC. Makes nice flexible cables. But Apple banned it in their cables, unlike other manufacturers, saying that when Europeans incinerate their trash, PVC creates dioxins.

Apple Support Message:

Ive just checked in the system and it hasn’t been updated yet to allow us to setup the replacement USBC cable. I would imagine that it will have been update tonight US time to allow us to set it up.

No its not in out internal system to allow me to setup to mail you one. Its not your mac, its the system that we use to send parts to customers .

Well great....o_O to be fair he literally just learnt about it though.

I'm also very confused. That's a Lightning cable in the picture and I don't have any writing on my USB-C cable either.

I see a lightning cable on the picture provided by Apple not a USB-C charge cable? I am still searching for the label on my MacBook USB-C cable.

Yeah, the picture is definitely a Lightning cable and not a USB-C cable.

If they are trying to plug the lightning cable into the USB-C port, no wonder it's not charging the MacBook. :)

I don't want to live in a world the biggest company in the world mistake the lightening cables to USB-C pic in a press release for an exchange program!

If Steve was alive cables wouldn't exist nowadays

Picked up a Retina MacBook a month ago for work. Guess I'm getting a new cable. Hope I don't have to send this old one back, I'm sure it'll be useful for something else in the long run (something less minor than charging a laptop of course).

No, this is only cables before June 2015 according to the article.

My MacBook wasn't bought in June, but i've bought multiple Apple Official USB-C cables from eBay.

If they don't have the serial, can they all be swapped out?

If it's from a month ago, you should be fine. Apparently it's only the early releases, and they are shipping the cables automatically at no charge if you registered.

Is it me or does Apple seem really half-hearted on USB-C?

The Macbook is still the only machine they have that has USB-C ports (Apple TV developer port doesn't really count) and it's been ages since that came out. They seem fully intent on continuing to use Lightning for their mobile devices.

If Apple has fully embraced this format you'd think we would see USB-C ports on the iMacs that were released since then, at the very LEAST. Standardizing on one plug across their entire product line would be even more awesome.

The problem should not have happened in the first place.

By first place I am assuming you are referring to the Apple Lab where it was designed. My money is that it didn't, and thats why it had to be fixed in the other places the cable was sent to.

The replacement will be sent to the registered address?

So Apple expects no-one to have moved house since pre-June 2015.

Currently contacting support about this, and the fact I'm no longer at the address is proving a nightmare.

This is embarrassing , apple uses an image of a lightning cable for a usb-C recall.

http://www.apple.com/support/usbc-chargecable/

What heck is happening at apple? One would think of all people they would
Know thier OWN products, and on a recal page....

I like the idea of mailing out a cable, but to last known address without confirming it is current? I certainly hope that isn't the case.

But given that about half the world received Mac and iPad charging adapters (wall end) that fail in a most horrible and life threatening way (electrocution), the company couldn't be bothered to send an email to all affected customers.

(For God's sake, Apple knows each and every affected customer because each time the device connects to an apple server, it is broadcasting AppleID and device s/n. It would be trivial for Apple to both send an email to that address and put a pop-up on the screen informing the user to check their email, or to just lead them into a page that confirms mailing address and prepares shipment of the replacement adaptor. Apple doesn't even know which devices are receiving replacements in exchange because Apple retailers are not required to enter a s/n into an Apple database to track completion rate. Customers could be incentivized to provide this info by giving them a 5$ iTunes credit. To do all that is necessary to have a clean, traceable, happy safe customer recall would cost less than a few percent of last qtrs profits.)

Whoever runs Apple's recall operation should be fired and their boss as well.

There is a lot of stupidity and mistakes happening in that corner of the company. They seem to be running it like a threadbare mom & pop shop, striving to minimize cost and risk of class actions, as opposed to striving to maximize customer safety and satisfaction.

They should hire me and get automotive industry recall management competence geared toward customer protection, satisfaction and delight.

at no charge is what we live to here. But hey, its up to the 'user' to make sure their address with Apple is current remember... This is not an Apple issue, but a user issue.

I could just imagine Apple spamming everyone affected inbox asking them to update their details. Half of them would be blocked by their own service.
