Maybe they will finally wise up and make the Ipad screen able to display an 8.5x11 page. The way it should have been from the beginning.

No new iPad Mini? I doubt that.

I'm not buying this story, either. The iPad mini was yield constrained in Q4-13. While the iPad Air did change the mix a bit (previously the mini was the best selling iPad), I don't see why Apple wouldn't at least give the iPad mini a spec bump. After all, production issues are mostly sorted now.

No new iPad mini, reintroduction of a discontinued iPad, and a 13 inch monster iPad. Well, stranger things have happened. I guess.

Apple seems to have extraordinarily low resources to take on new projects, which are only iterations of existing ones, compared to even the time during its near death experience in 1997 and even during the early 2000s, when development on OS X and new applications was rapid (and were of very high quality). Today they are a gigantic company but seem extremely constrained in their ability to work on more than one thing at a time. And software output, especially for the Mac, is lagging.

I want you to remember my prediction. there will be no iPad 4 rerelease. There is no reason to replace an iPad 2 with a cheap alternative iPad since the iPad mini non retina covers that. This analyst is not right 95% of the time and most of his predictions are common sense predictions almost every single time which have already been assumed. The ones he thinks of all on his own usually never ever pan out.

A 12 inch retina MacBook Pro doesn't seem like common sense, so we'll see if that prediction comes to fruition. But he did predict the 17 inch MacBook Pro being discontinued (which nobody saw coming) and the iPhone 5 being discontinued (which nobody saw coming), and a gold iPhone 5s.

A 20 inch ipad pro with a hinge that closes and protects the screen, and when you open the hinge it has the screen and it has a built in bonus keyboard in the screen cover so you can type with a real keyboard. That would be nice.

Maybe add some USB 3 ports and a thunderbolt connection for downloading images from thumbdrives.

Not sure how a scaled down version of the iPad is a replacement for a full size iPad. People were still ordering the 2 for good reasons - lower price point but still enough power to run what needs to be run.

For those who want the full size display, the mini is not going to cut it. Apple still needs a older version iPad to sell to the masses, I don't see everyone running out and getting Airs, although that would be a good thing - push the bulk users to the Air, and release the Air 2 with a few spec bumps and TouchID. I don't see the sense in restarting the 4.

Plus, small hands and little eyes need the bigger screen with bigger icons.

Common sense to you may not be the same as Kuo, or as Apple. Look at the iWatch, people were grumbling about how useless it was going to be, but if Apple is hiring all these people who work in healthcare product development and research, the iWatch will be a complete gamechanger. Way ahead of anything in the market, and bringing different sensing technologies to one device that is available to the average user, instead of having to have multiple devices that would be more expensive or more complicated to run.

I think the guy makes good predictions. Sure, it may be the next logical step in the evolution of the product, but isn't that what we want? Apple to be constantly looking to make their machines better, faster, lighter...

All I really care about, is if Apple will be updating the MacBook PRO this year....all these iToys mean squab-jibberish to me!

this is what apple can only do...make slimmer Idevices. Just sad.

Apple is more of a company that that, sure there are years where companies are on a roll and some years where they aren't. In 2011 they were brilliant, in the past years not so much. But all this can change, maybe 2014 will be there ultimate comeback year and blow everyone's minds. It's all possible.

I'm all for them prioritizing.. Helps to build better products..

An updated iPad Air with 2 GB of ram with better software optimization for the iPad on the A8 chip. I'm definitely ok with it..

True, but that's how they produce these monster profits and margins. Selling outdated spec for a premium (thanks to a nice finish on the body, aluminum). Sometimes they use low quality parts such as the faulty MBPr displays.
They produce monster profits and margins for making the first move with modern smartphones and tablets. The two year release schedule puts that at some risk because it allows the competition to update two or three times faster and close the gap. The latest crop of flagship Android phones has closed the gap and in some ways surpassed Apple (especially with the big step back in design and stability known as iOS7). They still have a healthy gap in tablets, but it's closing as well. IMO Apple is going to need to step it up and drop the two year cycle, or they're going to end up being a niche player yet again.

Apple may be preparing to introduce an upgraded iPad Air this year and will likely hold off the release of a 12.9-inch "iPad Pro" and a newer iPad mini until next year, KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo states in a new research note. The analyst believes that a new iPad Air with an A8 processor and Touch ID fingerprint sensor will be the only new tablet that Apple introduces this year, as the company focuses on shifting its resources from the Retina iPad Mini towards developing the 12.9-inch iPad. Kuo estimates that the larger iPad will debut early next year or late this year with limited supply.

In his research note, Kuo also states that the 12.9-inch iPad will act as a driver in allowing developers to create more interactive apps for a bigger screen. However, the analyst notes that Apple has prioritized developing the operating system for the iWatch this year, with plans to release its smart watch in 2014. Kuo also predicts that Apple will restart mass production of the iPad 4 in Q1 2014 as Apple looks to wind down iPad 2 production after a three-year run, which was reported earlier this week. Overall, the analyst predicts the iPad shipments will fall from 34 million units in the 1st half of 2013 to below 30 million units in the first half of 2014.

Kuo shared similar thoughts on the possibility of a 12.9-inch iPad last October, stating that the sixth-generation iPad would contain a 30-40% higher pixel density instead of a bigger screen. Various reports throughout the past couple of months have stated that Apple is targeting a late Q3 2014 launch for the iPad Pro, with some indicating that the device could be aimed toward the enterprise market.

What reason would Apple have to not update the iPad mini this year? Even if the retina display doesn't get an improvement so its contrast is on-par with the current iPad Air and if all other features stay the same, bumping it to the A8 to at least keep parity with the iPad Airs and iPhones would seem like an obvious thing to do. Also, update iPad Air, introduce iPad Pro, but leave Mini untouched? Nah, they'll all be done at the same time. The only reason to not do SOMETHING for the iPad mini is if they plan on discontinuing it, but there's no way that's happening.

The return of the fourth generation iPad is odd, but sort of makes sense; realistically, it should've been the one sold alongside the iPad Air this run and not the iPad 2, which is just straight nonsense when sold alongside an iPad three whole generations newer.

Personally, I'd be sad to not see a third generation iPad mini this year. I feel like that'll be a respectable time to upgrade from my first gen model. I definitely find myself not caring much about the iPad Pro and would be sad to see iPad mini resources diverted just to get this thing out there.

This makes a lot of sense actually.

When the iPad mini was first released it only had iPad 2 specs which were comparably less powerful than the regular sized version. Which explains the lack of new iPad mini since Apple may purposely keep the iPad mini slightly behind the cutting edge for whatever reason (size/battery/market cannibalization concerns?)

Also if a 12.9" iPad really is going to happen, IOS will require some serious changes for it to become worthwhile. Those mockups where everything is simply larger makes no sense at all. But iOS 8 may have some surprises, which make a larger iPad make sense. This is why I think it is logical to expect a year or more before we see the "iPad pro".

You can count on Samsung to say "first!!!" with their recent release of the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2...

A 12.9" ipad? I dunno. Seems a tad large for an ipad don't ya think? Could be wrong, but I believe it'll be a major flop for Apple. Just sayin.

I also think the iWatch will be a failure.

And I'm a huge Apple fan. I just don't see these two items as having the typical Apple must have appeal.

Just bought it mainly to watch movies and loving it so far. I would have bought an ipad pro, but I'm not going to just keep hoping for it to come out with the note pro out. Maybe I will replace the note pro with an ipad pro next cycle... Love my ipad mini and would have loved an ipad pro too... But sorry apple. I'm not waiting around this time...

still don't see why people want the fingerprint on a tablet

Have you not used the 5s? Do you not use have a passcode lock on your devices? Seriously? I didn't buy the air even though our exchange rate was still good because I wanted the touch ID on my nest pad.

This. It would be very odd for apple to upgrade one but not the other, particularly when these are improvements that could be easily incorporated into both.
