He did not.... So I'm sure he I'll be good to his word, and apple I'll indeed launch amazing new products this year.

Looking forward to seeing the new, and I mean NEW. NOT SLIGHTLY ENHANCED CURRENT PRODUCTS devices from Apple as he said.

And how do you define "slightly enhanced"?

----------

The iPad mini isn't selling well because it has a higher price but lower spec than the competition. I'm certain that Apple will address this with the annual iPad refresh giving it both a spec and screen resolution bump.

I don't even know why we listen to analysts.

You really don't know, I'm sure. But we do. Kuo's predictions from January 2013:

"- iPhone: Kuo expects that Apple will introduce both an iPhone 5S and a revamped iPhone 5 around June or July of this year, with the iPhone 5S appearing very similar to the current iPhone 5 but carrying a number of upgrades including an A7 system-on-a-chip for better performance, a fingerprint sensor, and camera improvements such as an f2.0 aperture and a smart LED flash. He also believes that the lower-cost iPhone will in many ways simply be an iPhone 5 repackaged into a slightly thicker (8.2 mm vs. the current 7.6 mm) plastic enclosure available in six colors"

- iPad and iPad mini: Kuo forecasts that Apple will update both lines during the third quarter of the year, with the iPad mini gaining a Retina display as the most notable change. He also predicts that the full-size iPad will become considerably slimmer and lighter and adopt the thinner side bezels seen on the iPad mini."

If he's accurate in the current predictions as he was with the January 2013 predictions, you can preorder your iPad Pro. Or rather, we can - you wouldn't know.

32gb standard needed!

If Apple doesn't make their devices have 32gb of memory standard this year I'm going to be pissed. Having to pay an extra $100 for $4-8 worth of memory is a rip off. Plus the fact that retina displays have driven up the size of apps.

If they don't make 32gb the minimum I probably won't be buying a new iDevice this year when they announce things.

The i5 in a Surface Pro 2 can already support up to 3840 x 2160 resolution, which is more than the predicted resolution of a retina 13" mba, so what are you talking about?

That's not to say we will see a rMBA. I think Apple will drag its heels here because as much as consumers would like it they would be concerned about cannibalizing the higher margin rMBP's.

Then Apple should charge more for a new retina MBA and keep the current MBAs as they are. I am willing to pay a lot more money for an ultraportable retina x86 computer made by Apple.

Fix iOS7!

After years of no issues on my iPad 2, I finally upgraded to the 128 iPad Air and I wish I had my money back. I don't think the Retina display is that much of an improvement over the iPad 2 and iOS7 is just a buggy mess. Constantly hangs on sync, apps crashing ALL the time now - when they NEVER did before, iTunes is terrible now. I'm just really disappointed that they put out an OS that wasn't ready for primetime.

If the technology is out there and already in use, people want to have it. No matter it makes perfectly sense or not.

I can't imagine how it would even begin to work with a smart cover, considering that Apple usually prides itself on supplying integrated solutions to its consumers.

Granted, I am using a spigen tough armour case on my iPad mini, so a fingerprint sensor to unlock my iPad actually makes a lot of sense. :p

I still own an iPad 2 but don't ever use it but you might have something wrong with your air cause there isn't a comparison in any way. And if you also don't think the retina display isn't much better than the iPad 2s grainy pixilated display I suggest eating carrots and getting your eyes checked.

Ugh, what a pain in the a** to keep up with all these new iPhones and iPads.

The only thing making you "keep up" is yourself. Either stop reading news about the new releases, or be happy with what you have enough to not care that something better is on the way. Because something better is always on the way.

One thing to consider is - how many predictions did he make and how many were wrong? It's easy to remember the right ones and forget the wrong ones o vague ones that got refined as manufacturing started to be set. In addition, how many people made similar predictions around the same time? That doesn't men he is bad at predicting but puts it into context.

As for the iPad prediction, that is vague enough and in line with Apple's general development path; although that is typical of analysts to start general and refine as more information becomes available.

I could see them neglecting the mini this year, if it weren't for the display's color gamut issue. I think that was probably a compromise they weren't too happy about making and would like to rectify. But I suppose they could always switch the screen technology without an official update. Also, those new iPads could really use more RAM.

Actually, Ming-Chi Kuo has a much better track record than most analysts; I would not dismiss this report.

Well, riddle me this Batman: Why would a highly paid analyst at a securities firm, who provides research to the firm and its wealthy clients, give it out to the great unwashed, gratis? Is he just that nice a guy?

(The source is really scraping the barrel on this one...)

This pic looks awfully familiar ...

Delays, delays, delays........

Just pray, this don't slip further like the Mac Pro shipping date did in some countries.

Every time i think of the 12.9-inch iPad, it constantly reminds me of this :-

I am fine with my wifi iPad air. It is a vast improvement over my iPad 3 which my niece happily has now. The touch ID would have been nice but really unnecessary for me. It was the right time to upgrade, you will drive yourself bonkers or into the poor house if you try to get the latest and greatest all the time.

I wish the iPads had an attachable keyboard cover like the Microsoft Type 2 keyboards for the Microsoft Surface tablet. I purchased the Surface 2 last Fall and have found the hardware ergonomics better than iPad; though Windows RT/Win 8.1 still sucks.

I like how the title of the thread makes it look like this news is a sure thing when it's just another stupid analyst report.

Indeed! I wonder when MacRumors relaxed their style guidelines to the extent that they allow such rumours to be portrayed as a definite. This headline reads as though Apple have publicly made this statement.

Those were very safe, generic predictions that many pundits were making. 90% of all rumors at that time were predicting exactly what he said. You picked a couple of predictions which were not unique to him, at a time when the information leading to that prediction was flowing freely. January 2013 did not really place him on the cutting edge of those rumors, except for perhaps the camera flash.

Some more bad examples. In August 2013, he predicted the 5c was being released. By that time, there were pictures of the thing everywhere. Very common knowledge that a "lower cost" alternative was being produced. How about digging up some of his more unique predictions that came true?

Sort of like the kind where he flies in the face of common wisdom, and predicts NO ANNUAL UPDATE of a product line, when Apple has a track record of releasing an annual update for iPad and iPhones?

My prediction (and my prediction record is about 23% accurate +/- 17%) is that the iPad air and mini will see a minor spec bump this year (RAM increase to 2GB). Tick-Tock approach. Major upgrade every odd year, minor upgrade every even year.

I don't think it's a shock that the iPad air will probably get a new processor and finger print. The iPad seems to get iPhone S type updates. I'm sure the form factor will not change at all.

A 20 inch ipad pro with a hinge that closes and protects the screen, and when you open the hinge it has the screen and it has a built in bonus keyboard in the screen cover so you can type with a real keyboard. That would be nice.

Maybe add some USB 3 ports and a thunderbolt connection for downloading images from thumbdrives.

So basically a big laptop? See why making a tablet too large with all this stuff attached to it doesn't work? It ceases to be a tablet and becomes a laptop.

Wrong thread.

Yep, and stuff that gets reported here finds it's way to other sites and eventually rumors become facts.

First, Kuo initially said no iPad mini until 2014, then later retracted that to say one would appear in 2013. Things may change.

There is logic to what he says. Apple can't afford to upgrade the iPad Air and retina mini and then allow the current versions to drop in price. People would opt for 2013 versions in mass for $100 off. This would kill margins. Having a larger iPad for less is important, but it has to be a clear cut tradeoff of features for price. Having the iPad 4 available at $399, makes sense. Upgrading the mini presents a similar problem, and perhaps worse. They would have to discontinue the current model, not reduce its price, and add a more expensive to build replacement. I could see them not introducing a new mini as a result.
