Are you referring to before Steve Job took over apple again?
No, I am referring to the current Apple, because you seemed to imply that Apple isn't doing well now, when in fact they are doing even better than they did with Jobs as CEO.

I'm excited about the idea of an Apple car... it just seems like such a huge and different category for them. One with too many challenges and not enough margins...

Financially, they are doing great. Quality is what I'm questioning.

That is quite the possibility where they are working with existing automotive manufactures and this is just a confidential testing ground for next generation CarPlay.
I would be very scared if Siri was the driver.

It's not that different from other Apple products. There will be a 200hp sedan called the Apple Car. Then there will be a 100hp hatchback. That is the Apple Car mini. And of course, a 250hp SUV, the Apple Car Pro, and is available with 18K gold or rose gold grilles.

I wonder if Microsoft will be getting into the car business now too. (I assume Samsung already has.) If MS does enter the market, the would-be Apple car could have an interesting ad campaign: "We crash less than Windows."

I assume you know that Samsung has been in car industry for a while, albeit not as successfully as in chips or displays. This Samsung Renault SM7. So Samsung has already a car base if they wish to go electric car way (Hyundai makes electric hybrids based mostly on Toyota technology, I believe).

As for Apple, I assume that their car will be more of Bentley type. This is Bentley concept car (though not electric, but hybrids will be available). Why Bentley? Because Ive is British and Bentley is an icon of British design (Bentley Bentayga). It is made of aluminium, has exceptional engine, 8 drive modes, and full suite of electronics. I would assume that is Apple makes a car, this will set an example of finest engineering for them. In addition, full car electronics from Apple would be amazing, including AppleWatch technology, Apple Car technology, all of their iPhone and iPad technology, all mixed and adapted for cars. Now, that would be something!

My concern is QA staffs may not be doing their job effectively. I shouldn't compare os x with car..but i will because they haven't shown much improvement with QA issue in these regards, bugs/glitches/ethernet issues/ ...and battling with FBI, which may be distracting them from focusing on quality issues.
Seems like "shouldn't compare" is pretty much where that stops.

LOL...more like "turn left, siri!" "Okay, I'll go straight ahead."

I have a neighbor who has a sailboat and sails around the world with his wife. I asked him how he navigates around.. it seems so complicated. He told me he does it all with his iPad. I literally pictured him saying "Hey Siri, where am I" to the thing!

That's pretty crazy. I can't even trust my siri with anything. Male voice siri tells me all the wrong directions as of late. It used to be good...but not anymore. Probably ios glitch or something.

iCola. As there was no Cola before iCola and no car before iCar, we felt compelled to invent them.

So....Apple's researchers run on Pepsi?
Fair enough. I guess that's a lot healthier for them than running on Coke.
Hey - No pun intended - I'm a Pepsi-guy myself! Really, I swear! :D

Samsung definitely does have the resources for making a car. But where they fit in South Korean politics, competing with the Hyundai / Kai boys would rub a lot of people the wrong way in high places. We are talking Asian corporate politics where whom is married to whom with what board seat relations still has a feudal mindset.

Apple is a big company with north of 50,000 employees. The FBI debacle is at most a dozen or so people on the executive board and legal department. The rest of the company, this is office cooler talk. There is plenty of resources around to make it go right. In fact, when you have this many people in an organization, there is an entire management art to keeping internal resources in contention.
Samsund does/did make cars and have for many years.
