Well I never no what I’m gonna do next year lol. If they drastically change things I may sell this one and buy a new one. So I want to keep it scratch/damage free. I’m just hoping the little edges on the bottom will keep it from getting scratched.

I'm unsure about space grey but it you could prolly polish out minor scratches in the exposed area of the silver phone since it's just the stainless steel band. Sort of like how watches are polished..

Yeah I heard the silver scratched very easily where the space grey doesn’t. Not as easy anyway.

Thanks guys. I’m just a little more careful with this phone cause it’s quite a bit more expensive and I plan to keep it for awhile lol
[doublepost=1513901771][/doublepost]The only thing I don’t understand is why Apple left the bottom exposed.

My daughter and I tried on a case that had the bottom and it made it more difficult to swipe up with something in the way. That might have something to do with it.

I love the leather case. I have dropped my phone many times and the protection is great. I had it on my 7 as well.

Glad to hear everyone not having problems with the leather cases. I got mine on my x now. I love the leather cases.

Someone wanted to see some patina...here are the only pics I could find before I sold these two (7 and 7+). Wife had the same phones with some left over cases, hence the girly ones lol

Apple cases do not adequately protect the phone when it is accidentally dropped especially from the height above the waist. They are nice but they are not protective enough against impact and high level drop.
The iPhone X leather case seemed to well in this test:
I put leather conditioner on the case to speed up patina and grippiness and so far have not had any issues with them. My wife who is equally as clumsy with her phone has had no issues with her leather case.

I was surprised how well it did. The test for that case is at the 12:25 (or so) mark.

I just got the saddle brown leather case as well, it’s awesome. Has anyone found a good edge to edge screen protector for it?

Dropped my X today, more like half flung on to a steel travelator thanks to my little one. Bottom corner got a pair of deep dimples...

I think the X’s stainless steel band is really strong, and if you looked closely at the top corners of the Leather Case, it seems raised a bit more as well. Add a good glass protector, it’s not as bad as it could be.

I bought the leather case for my x, love it but it’s slipery.

In terms of drop stories - my 7+ shattered after dropping from a chair I put it on, onto concrete. It was in a leather case, and without a screen protector. I think a pebble may have hit the screen though, and it fell face first.

Good write-up with a conclusion, Apple Leather Case does not protect fully the iPhone when dropped. The leather case is definitely a beautiful case, but purchase it with your own risk of shattering or damaging your iPhone.

Are you saying this from experience or just your opinion? I ask because it's very hard to find actual "i dropped my phone" stories from people with the leather case.
At an Apple store yesterday I overheard an employee telling a customer that she dropped her iPhone 8 from waist height while pulling the phone from her pocket. The glass cracked in the corner while the phone was in an Apple leather case.

it does, when you use it with a tempered glass screen protector

The iPhone 8’s frame is softer and will deform, making it more likely to crack the glass on a corner. No glass screen protector will help, especially when they don’t offer edge to edge coverage.

It helps, because the apple leather case has a lip higher than the phone's screen.
that will help

Like any minimalistic case the Apple leather case will protect only so much. It's great for scratch protection or small drops (this is all dependent on the way it falls and on which surface it hits) but odds are it wont offer much in the way of serious drop protection, but that's not the purpose of the case. It's a case for the type of person who wants a slim case made of premium material and doesn't want a bulky rubber box around their phone.
