if it doesn't go on sale, Apple HAS to push it further out. You can't have something on sale and not make it available to purchase. Thats like saying, Its free for a limited time but the stock actually doesn't exist until the free period is over.
I think other retailers could get away with this, but not Apple. They have a reputation to uphold so I'm hoping this means those of us who want it at that price will get it.

I keep on doubting about ordering one. I'm sure it will be amazing, but I'm also sure it will be pretty much worthless in a few years, when TB3 is gone and DP1.3 the bomb.

I'd order any 5k with TB3 and DP1.3, but the wait for that could be long or even eternal.

Ive been thinking about this too. Once DP1.3 is out, will this 5k still be supported? Like, if I buy a new MacBook Pro in 5 years. Does DP1.3 work with MST?

Or it could be the opposite like the current Apple Thunderbolt Display. It is the only game in town with all the peripherals built in and goes for ridiculous prices used on eBay still because of that. I just looked and they are selling for $600-$700.

You'd be surprised at how often this happens overseas. Not by Apple but by other internet sites. Classic clickbait tactic. Guys I'm giving away 100 free loaded macbook pro 15 with touchbar, value $4200 each. Just click on the link.

Then of course there's never any stock. Kind of like a doorbuster.

Apple makes the display available on December 31. Everyone is watching the fireworks and no one gets the discount. Every penny counts for apple.

Hmm..
They must be having a hard time making that custom water jet cut high pressure extruded gorgeous aloo-minniummm casing!

oh wait..
To be honest I think it's Thunderbolt 3 related since I'm not aware of a single Thunderbolt 3 dock shipping yet (where's that Belkin one?!) and the display effectively includes a Thunderbolt 3 dock.

What about the 4k one that's shipping?
Different ports?

4K is USB-c only if I recall

Good info - Hope they get it fixed.

There doesn't seem to be anything Apple is involved with that actually meets self imposed dates much anymore.
It's almost out of the ordinary if something DOES ship on time now.

Very odd (sucks really).

Yep. I was in line with my two year old for AirPods that were mysteriously reserved by an epic line that formed at 6:30 am-when we had our 15-20 line at opening... they could have put up a sign instead the manager said they the other salt lake locations.

This makes no sense I have started seeing ads for the 27" Class UltraFine 5K monitor. When I click the ad it goes to LG's page but I can't order it. It just lets me look at the information.

I currently have this monitor: https://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-syncmaster-t220/specs/ and it has support for 16.7 million colors. But the new 5k display only supports 14.7m colors? how can it be that my 2008 monitor has better color support than a 2017 monitor.

It's 14.7 million pixels, not colors. I am not sure how many colors.

Real tempted to return this 21.5 inch LG, I'm just concerned about performance for my 13 inch - oh, and the cost :p
