I meant that it doesn't make sense to call it "Apple OS". It's already Apple's OS. Just like Microsoft doesn't call their OS "Microsoft OS", it's called Windows.

Oh. Well, I never thought they would call software something like that either but after "Watch OS" I started wondering :p

The name of the company - TeleVision OnStream = TVOS.

I mean, could they get any more original? :p

I totally agree. I would be highly embarrassed to walk around town with a phone with a girly-named OS. "Hey, is that the new Samsung S6 Plus with the new Cherry Poptart/Sugary Lemonade/Goody Goody Gumdrop/Silly Sally Bubblegum OS installed?" :)

I shudder to wonder if Apple's OS's were stupidly named that way how trolled they would get by people here.

Sure thing El Capitan.

More than likely, you'll be able to code one app in Swift and then simply optimize for each platform. That seems to make more sense than coding for one platform, then forcing all the products to support that OS (as is/was the case with MS).

I too would be all over that! I pay UK cable in excess of £75 a month for a full package just to watch Premier League and Champions League football.

Still, i doubt the UK will get such an option on AppleTV

Don't misunderstand me, I definitely get ya. It would certainly be a lot easier if Apple and Microsoft simply named their OS after the company name. At least even the non-techies would know which product their software works on when reading the System Requirements. :)

It's interesting how while Microsoft is moving to consolodate Windows 10 across desktop, tablet, smartphone, Xbox, etc, Apple is ever expanding int more OS's. iOS, OS X, Watch OS, and now tvOS?? Sounds very cumbersome... but perhaps that's better than lumping them all into one all-encompassing OS?

They are just making it more confusing for people. They should have stuck with iOS across the board.

I would imagine that the distinction is more for developers than us customers... A way for Apple to differentiate the different OS to allow devs to access / code for different set of devices with different sets of capabilities / hardware / APIs...
