I think they should've only released to developers for the first year and not allowed anyone without a developer account to order. At least that way there would still be some mystery to the experience and pent up demand by consumers for a cheaper, gen 2 release.

Wouldn't work. Rapid app development requires feedback from customers both to help evaluate and improve the product and to direct developers to the most profitable areas. Most want feedback to guide their development efforts. Have been in such exchanges with VP developers.

Get a large screen oled and hang on wall. Much better.

No comparison. VP much better.

Maybe it will work if they slap a M4 chip and resell it as new. I know of people who sees it as outdated given it is 2 generations behind the latest Mac chip

No need for an M4. Works just fine with M2.

Who is willing to burn through their iPhone battery after watching half of a film?

A couple of advantages of tethering:

1. Offload processing to the iPhone to reduce the VP component cost
2. Offload the battery weight from the headset

The battery from an iPhone wouldn't run the current VP acceptably. An iPhone 15 Pro Max has ~17 Wh capacity and weights ~275 g. The Vision Pro battery has > 2x the Wh, 35.9 Wh, and weights ~325 grams. Even with the much greater capacity the VP battery can only run the VP for about 2 hours.

A tethering option with both an iPhone and a battery would seem to be needed using the current VP specifications. That's probably unacceptable so very interested in seeing how Apple handles it if they go in that direction.

they can reduce the amount of base RAM /S .

Given the hundreds of posts complaining about the 8 GB of Ram on Apple computers reducing the RAM on the VP probably doesn't make sense. Besides being a computer it also has to process all of those sensors which I assume requires more memory. AI capabilities, which their huge memory requirements, are evidently in the works.

if you don't own an iPhone, or you have one without FaceID, you cannot even consider purchasing a Vision Pro.

The VP requires a correct fitting to work properly. Their iPhone fitting is remarkably accurate. It is, indeed, an inconvenience for those who don't have an iPhone. A visit to an Apple store would be required. How else could they do it?

They need to pivot back to focusing on iPadOS and macOS. People don’t necessarily want a clunky device on their head to do what they were doing just fine on Apple’s other devices. Yeah it makes sense on a Plane, but at home its extra steps.

Problem is, lower price for a worse product doesn’t necessarily make it a commercial success.

One of the distinct advantages of AVP is its resolution, and what that enables.

That’s very true, but when they’re building up the ecosystem having a high priced niche product doesn’t help. It’s also much harder to get the cost of the components down with scale.

They could just let people play with the tech configurations and see the prices on the website. Put the face scan last and if people can't complete it, direct them to an Apple Store.

As the website is currently set up, the face fitting comes first and there is no way to see or change the configurations or prices without first completing the iPhone step.

You FEEL LIKE they sold less than 50,000.

Yeah, thanks for your expert opinion based on your feelings LMAO

That's right, because it's such a flop even Apple won't give out numbers. If they sold hundreds of thousands of these they'd be shouting it from the rooftops like they have done with the Apple Watch and Airpods.

This product is not just niche it's microscopic.

Cheaper Vision headset is required. Should take a couple of years before it is available for purchase.

Why would someone want to strap a 3D TV + computer onto their face, high or low resolution?
Ohh wait, most people don’t want to do that. What a surprise.
The kind of comments will age very badly 😀
it’s almost exactly like the first reactions to personal computers. “ who would want a computer in their home ? Nobody needs one. I mean , what can you even do with a personal computer anyway ?

I don’t think there’s a price point low enough to make me want to buy this. I just don’t see the point of this product at all.

With a bigger lower quality screen, no on-board processor, no misty eyes on the outside, a smaller battery, cut down the outside sensors and more, it could go down to 1500 dollar as just an extra screen and way easier to wear. It would be a better product in so many ways. It’s already tethered to a battery, replacing it with an iPhone won’t make a big difference.

I haven’t even tried it yet but the stupidly heavy Airpods Max have shown me that comfort is even more important than quality.

If it’s tethered to iPhone, could it just be in form factor of glasses, since it doesn’t need all the computing power on device? Probably also a smaller battery. If it turns out to be a AR device instead of VR, it would be interesting.

"but its limited production capacity of up to 900,000 panels per year"

I think someone is being wildly overoptimistic about sales figures.
Each Vision Pro uses 2 panels. So 900,000 panels equates to 450,000 Vision Pros sold per year.

Is this one water tight?

The AVP was amazing except it let in a lot of water no matter what we did. As a high end scuba mask I can’t tell you how disappointed I was, and how stupid I looked.

IMO, Apple should have started with a cheaper model to gain market and then refined and sophisticated it. However, bigger screens also imply the weight increase, which is already cumbersome for some users of the current generation.

Nope, won't happen. It's not a tablet. Lower res means text will look awful. They won't release something with less experience than they have now. The screen production will be ramped to meet the lower price point.

Yes & no. Supposedly they can make 450k units/year. Unsure how much inventory they launched with; but if a significant portion of it remains unsold then that's a lot of $ in inventory for a company that's used to selling out of their hot products days or weeks after launch.

On the other hand; if it sold like hotcakes with a year's long wait list for the next one; you can be sure that they'd be going all in on the AVP; if not an even more expensive version 2. They certainly wouldn't be launching internationally with it yet either.

the fact that they've supposedly shuttered development of the version 2 and instead refocused on a cheaper version; as well as launched it internationally in a number of wealthy markets spells to me that they might've missed the mark with sales.

I only just had the Meta Quest 3 for a few weeks to see what VR and MR is all about. Already now I would consider Meta Quest 3 a pretty good gaming console for casual gaming and some fitness. I definitely see use cases for myself – even for productivity – but comfort/weight and display quality (especially resolution) were not quite there yet. But I am excited for future iterations of AVP and, actually, Meta Quest now. Maybe in 2026 or 2027 they’ll reach a sweet spot for comfort and performance that leads to more mainstream adoption.

That's generally expected that a very expensive product will not sell like hot cakes; however, Apple's strategy is not to get profit out of VR immediately, but rather establish a strategic stronghold to which they can gradually add their own products expanding overall sales and deriving profit from other related products as well. So, a flagship first, a mass product later and expansion of services and OS capabilities so they can sell more Vision-capable iphones, headphones or other gear.

Years from now if we see multiple headsets released. I want to see what that looks like as a tiered range of low level Vision to Pro, Pro+ Vision products.

*What the physical difference between each product is, such as we already see in the mac and iphone lineup for cost/additional feature?

Yep. I’m still not working with a headset pressed tightly against face for hours. That’s not happening.

And once again the movies look great. But you’ll quickly lose interest doing that. Not worth the discomfort. Hard to drink or eat. Or share. And you look like you’ve been in a wreck afterwards.

This is pretty much a “bottom line” type post when it comes to this device.
