Not waiting for M5 lol 😂 2 months without a computer is too much… the M4 should Double the speed of my 2019 Mac Tower…
You should consider just waiting a few minutes for all these thoughts to coalesce and put them in one post rather than dumping in the thread. Why did you sell your tower before the new Macs came out if waiting two months for a computer is going to cause this much anxiety? And yes, it would be silly to buy a brand new computer just to hold you over, as you say. Make due with the iPhone unless you have some actual computing needs that your livelihood relies on, which I don't imagine is the case if you sold it early.

Slightly tempted by the prospect of an M4 iMac… not that my M1 iMac has been in any way dissatisfactory, I will be happy to hold onto it until software support runs out. But… ooh the shiny.

the studio's seems to be the new step child of the mac line. release at the end of the new chip cycle rather than the beginning. :(

All of its releases have been at the end.

That’s also unlikely to change, just like Intel is unlikely to offer a Xeon first, then the mobile CPU last.

Still on a 2018 Intel pro. Not in a rush to upgrade since I have a M4 iPad pro and a powerful desktop 7800X3D PC that bridges the gap for now. I’m really just waiting for the tandem oled pros that I will upgrade my 2018 to.

That’s basically what the baseline MBP is.
The same internals as the Air in the body of the Pro.
I know, but prefer a lighter and thinner body. For my need, fan is not necessary. 15" MBA is almost heavy as 14" MBP. I am going to keep my 14" M1P until it can't get new OS update so, I just hope that Apple will release a MBA with better display in future.

I appreciated the addition of HDMI and friends, but not the loss of the 4th USB-C port. If rumors of the mini having 5 USB-C ports are true, hopefully that means the M4 in the new MBP will allow 4 USB-C/TBT ports plus more than enough bandwidth to support the odds-and-ends ports.

Apple's strategy, if you can call it that, regarding the Studio is bizarre. Everyone else touts their fastest and most expensive models first, for brownie points with the press and because low chip volumes at initial rampup dovetails well with low-volume models.

Did Mac rumors get it wrong?? I read that the M4 Macs are shipping now.. and pro in October… we could see them at the September 9 event!

“Gurman says that suppliers in China are scheduled to begin shipping the new ‌Mac mini‌ models with the M4 chip in early September. The M4 Pro model will not begin shipping until October.”

But the election is the 2nd Tuesday in November (November 12)
Yup.

Which means that in the US, at least, any Apple news will be squashed by election news.

In other parts of the world of course that will not necessarily be the case.

As such, I think we can all agree that this announcement will be the annual let's-boost-the-sales tactic, which the computer makers inherited from the car makers of old.

Waiting to see how much RAM the base model will have with the M4 chips.
