THIS is the number one reason for me to upgrade! Just upgrade and all your problems are solved folks! :D

Add me to the list

My 3G slowed to a crawl after upgrading. Based on advice I read somewhere (here?) I performed a wipe and restore from within iTunes and it helped speed the phone up but it's still much more sluggish than with version 3.

I don't care about missing features but the response lag is driving me crazy sometimes.

It's absolutely useless on my 3G.

Always jerky and slow, nevermind the massive lag before it even begins to do anything — even unlocking is a chore. Freezing is common as is crashing of the native apps.

This phone isn't even 18 months old yet, and I might have signed a 24 month contract. Thank god I didn't, but some will have.

Glad to see this is getting some attention. I hope they also look into the bug that prevents some 3G users from accessing the Settings > General screen.

Ive had the same problems with my 3Gs, id thought about taking it to apple store to be checked out. Have many people had problems with 3Gs or just the 3G. Mine is really slow to react at times, and when i try to end tasks quite often the phone will freeze then restart, this happens more than once a day.

i'm so pissed that i upgraded to ios4 because this video is EXACTLY like what my iphone 3G in now doing. I cannot even answer the phone half of the time. Already ordered my Iphone 4. Was going to anyway but common! Really Apple???

same here

my 2gen iTouch has been suffering from this too, even crashing apps that have been updated to work on iOS 4

Overheating? Nope.
Battery drain? No worse than usual.
System responsiveness issues? Y-e-s, it's v e - r y l a a a g g y y y

My opinion... it's not the iPhone4 that was rushed to market but it was iOS4 that was rushed.

I really believe that most of the issues with iPhone4 (and the slowness of the 3G phone) is from iOS4. I really think Apple rushed this part. So, hopefully, many of the issues with the 3G and iPhone4 will go away with the updated iOS4.1.

Despite my very recent - and very strong - anipathy toward Apple, I have to admit that my 3GS isn't too affected by then new software. It still has the same poor build quality though :(

This issue should also be looked examined in regards to iOS4 running on the 2G Touch. Pitifully laggy.

I agree. My iPod touch is far slower now that it's got iOS 4 running on it. It even stutters when playing music sometimes. It's hard to believe that even with all the fancy stuff stripped out (including custom backgrounds), this iPod and the iPhone 3G can't run the OS well...

My 3GS runs just as quickly as it did before, though.

The video is not a parody, it is real. My 3G is at least as slow as the one in the video.

It sure is. I and a collegue of mine have exactly the same. Wait, wait and wait.

It's become a bit better after 'restoring', but after a while it became slow again.

I'm rebooting every some day now to get some speed, but that seems only to work for a short while.

Running 4.0.1 with that Exchange fix. Still slow.
Thinking about switching back to 3.x, but apple should support that (or fix 4.0 for 3G, even better, I know they can :) :apple:).

OK, I just read the WSJ article. Looks like this topic only refers to the 3G, not the 3GS. In my case, my 3GS has been suffering from substantial slowdowns since I upgraded to iOS 4. Can anyone else corroborate this behavior with the 3GS?

Thanks.
My 3GS is running incredibly slow and seems to have lost some responsiveness when typing and entering URL's. It's very frustrating.

I hope they improve it for everybody. iOS 4 on iPod Touch second generation is a misery. Maps is unusable and it often loses playlists.

Edit:
I just saw saxon48 already said this :)

Users, however, understandably expected that Apple's steps to disable certain resource-intensive features on those devices should have left the remaining features operating relatively smoothly. That does not, however, appear to be the case for some users.
Some? Lol. I know a lot of people with iOS 4 on a 3G, and they all suffer from horrendous performance. The only variance is different people's tolerance for abysmal performance. There is no variance with how poorly the phone runs with the new os.

Yup, definitely missed a few phone calls because UI wouldn't respond. So sad. :(

I upgraded my 3G before I managed to get a new iPhone4. It was slow, and a few issues with pictures not immediately appearing in the roll. Once I'd set up my new phone, I reset the 3G to give to my daughter and found it was a whole lot better. I had done a full reset and then set it up on my daughters Mac. Works a treat.

LMFAO - OK, seriously; It took me a long time to realise with the iPhone, but you will be saying that for another 10 years! Every time major glitches are discovered, a fix is offered a few months later which creates it's own glitches - FFS it drives me crazy! Why should you need an update now? It is unbelievable that they would bugger it up this much.

Wow, Apple really needs to hire that YouTuber to do videos for them since they're getting into the whole YouTube thing now. That video was brilliant!

That video shows precisely why I downgraded my old iPhone 3G that I gave to my wife to 3.1.3 after having iOS 4 installed on it for about 48 hours. She knew something wasn't right.

Of course, that's kind of been the whole mantra of iPhone 4/iOS 4 for quite a few people -- something just isn't right.

That's the reason I took my iPhone 4 back for a refund and now have the Droid X. No more proximity sensor issues (which was my biggest problem with the iPhone 4 by far), no more signal attenuation issues (despite Apple's video to the contrary), and no more dropped calls. Period. I haven't had a single dropped call in two weeks and haven't "Facedialed", "Facemuted", or "Faceended" a single call on the Droid X.

I guess an A4 processor should have been the minimum requirement.

My friend reports general sluggishness on their 3G and deeply desires a 4 to resolve the problem.
