Would APPLE go to all this trouble trying to retrieve a missing "Iphone 5" if it's nothing more than an upgraded Iphone 4(S)? I don't think so.

We'll probably see two distinctly different phones presented on Tuesday...

No we won't.

Spec upgrade to 4S now, iPhone 5 next year-- just like Apple has always done.
2 years between design changes, 1 year between spec changes.

IF there was in fact another lost phone and this wasn't a con game cooked up to either get the bar free press, hurt Apple, the SFPD or perhaps all 3 then yes. they would go to the trouble. Imagine the damage to the stock price if it leaked out weeks in advance that the upgrade was a pitiful little spec bump from the 4.
