When your mission, your products, and your environment are not going to revolutionize the world, talent leaves for money.
Very few corporate missions, products and environments revolutionise the world.

That’s not their aim.

Corporations amass financial value.

It might not even have to do with morale. If a competitor is offering you two to three times your current salary, most people are going to jump ship. Even if it doesn't work out at Meta, they'll likely be scooped up by someone else shortly thereafter. It's a seller's market when it comes to AI talent.
Seriously I love my job and team and if someone said here is 25 million dollars I would be gone within a few hours. The money being offered is unbelievable.

Something is amiss at Apple, at some point the truth will surface. More will be revealed, this cannot continue.
Microsoft basically missed the internet initially and they still got their footing. Apple didnt understand the important of AI and the things it can do with real world utility....like the image editing Gemini is doing on a pixel phone. Thats real end user benefit. The number of really useful phone features the Pixel has is starting to embarrass apple where the camera and editing have always been at least ok. They will be fine in a few years but it will require some real effort to catch up.

Rumors have it Gemini will power Siri.
Apple biggest stumbling block has been wanting to do everything on device. I dont see how turning it over to online always Gemini solves their problems...they can make an online LLM anytime. At this point it's trivial for a giant tech company to make a decent one. If they are willing to get rid of on device (which they should) they can just make their own and it will be fine.

Meta seems like an absolutely terrible place to work if you want your work to "mean something," but if you can hang in there for two or three years, that $75 million can fuel a lot of passion projects or charity work down the line. You'd be foolish not give it a shot.

Exactly, a lot of people like to take the moral high ground. But the reality is you don't really know how people will react until it actually happens; otherwise it's just a lot of virtue signalling.

Not me though; i'm quite upfront. For 200 million dollars i'd personally code skynet. You hear me meta? my dm's are open.
