Anyone in this thread a fan of Apple products, but don't own an iPhone?

I feel like I'm the only person in this forum who does not have an iPhone. As much hate my phone gets, I love my Blackberry Bold. I need an upgrade soon, I won't lie initially I was planning to get the Blackberry Bold Touch, but ever since I started chatting here I've been contemplating to get an iPhone 4S/5.

Anyway, to Apple lovers who don't own iPhones:
    1. What phone do you use?
    2. Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?
    3. Would you ever consider it?
    4. What Apple products do you own?

    1. I use a Tracfone. I only have the phone for emergencies.

    2. It costs me about $5.00/mo. and the minutes roll over forever.

    3. Yes if I could get it pre-paid with no contract.

    4. Pretty much all of them.

You can't be serious. It's got to where I'd come to MacRumors to find out about non-Apple phones, if I owned one.

    3. No, I've had a 3GS and I did not care for it at all, I sold it and got a Palm Pixi which was by far the best phone I've ever owned.
    4. I own quite a few older ones, I've listed them many times before.

Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?
It's not that I don't want to 'upgrade' to an iPhone; I am just ambivalent.

    Would you ever consider it?
I might very well go for the next generation iPhone.

I was in love with Apple through 2007 or 2008, well after they came out with the iPhone. I don't have one, nor did I ever.

When it first came out, it offered "internet" in your hand. I didn't need (and still rarely need) it. Apps were, and still are, a joke. Seriously, there's very little you can do on an iPhone, that you can't do better on a computer. 99% of "Apps" are trivial wastes of time that are useful for specific tasks and nothing else. Likewise, if I want to game, I have a 360. Gaming on the go is for Angry Birds, and not much else.

At the time, I was using a w300i "dumb phone", and I preferred the ability to record and text video over having internet.

Now, I have a Windows Phone 7, and I love it because it's so intuitive. Having no experience with WP7, and having owned an iPod Touch, I actually found it easier to learn my WP7 than my girlfriend's iPhone.

Would I ever consider it? No. What got to me was the fact that if I'm texting someone and I need to call them, I have to scroll to the top of the text screen before I can go to their contact card and call them. And I don't like the screen size.

Apple products I own or owned?
    • Mac Mini
    • iMac
    • Macbook Pro
    • Macbook Air
    • 6 iPod's?
    • iPod Touch

    What phone do you use?
I only take a phone with me, to be available for my parents when i go out. And that phone is my dads one, if i remember correctly, it's a Samsung Corby...
Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?
It's too expensive to be just a 'be available'-phone.
    Would you ever consider it?
If it came reasonably priced, as a prepaid phone: yes.
What Apple products do you own?
    iPod Nano 2g
    iPod Touch 2g (broken)
    iPod Touch 4g

I doubt that you are the only person in this position.

Anyway, to answer the questions asked:

1: I use an elderly Nokia

2: Neither want to nor need to

3: It depends (on whether the answer to Q. 2 changes in time)

4: I own two iPods (classic 80GB and an iTouch, 64GB); I used to own a 2008 15" MBP and now have a 13" MBA which has been my main - and only - computer for the past year.

    Cheers

My phone costs me about $30 a month right now.

An iPhone would cost me about 2x that and I have an iPod touch, so I don't need it.

I wouldn't consider myself an 'Apple lover' but...

What phone do you use? Samsung Solstice.
Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone? Too expensive.
Would you ever consider it? If someone payed for it.
What Apple products do you own? None.

    What phone do you use?
    HTC Titan

Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?
I don't consider it an upgrade, more of a sidegrade. It's a good device but doesn't fit my wants/needs.

    Would you ever consider it?
If Windows Phone got shut down, and if Apple made a non-glass iPhone with a bigger display. Better Windows support for iTunes would help too.

What Apple products do you own?
    iPod nano

See, my phone plan is $70 for my Blackberry, and it's equivalent to an iPhone... That's why it's so tempting for me! The iPhone's web browser and app is so much better than Blackberry's. But I use my phone mostly for emails and it's super convenient. I don't like the email set up for iPhone

    HTC

Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?
I feel they're too overpriced and under functioned.

    Would you ever consider it?
I'll consider it just like I consider every other phone.

What Apple products do you own?
iPod Nano (3rd Gen) and see signature.

    [*]What phone do you use?

Galaxy S 4g, a hand me down from the missus.

[*]Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?

Don't like being hosed by a data plan/minutes I don't (and probably never will ever) use. And I like tinkering with the OS. I've installed custom ROM on my phone to eliminate bloatware. It now runs faster than Mexican water through a first time tourist.

    [*]Would you ever consider it?

Sure. If the missus gets one and gets bored with it (of course, I'll jailbreak and unlock the sucker.)

[*]What Apple products do you own?

Fat Mac (512K Mac used as a clock), bondi blue iBook (for OS 9. Mostly for old, old games. Spaceward Ho!:cool:), MacBook (general computing).

I have an industrial quality Samsung flip phone that I got after I lost my Motorola Razr from 2005. I really have no need for a smartphone of any kind and could do without my cell altogether, at that. My wife has a Samsung Android phone, and I'd like to get her an iPhone just to stop the bitch'n about it.

I have most of the usual Apple products with the exception of the iPhone.

    1. What phone do you use?
    HTC Sensation
    2. Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?
I wouldn't consider it an upgrade. I used to have an iPhone 3GS and when I first bought it the competition was way behind. However, by the time I came to upgrade I had the Sensation or the iPhone 4 to choose from. I just don't think there is anything that the iPhone 4 has over the 3GS that I would be interested in. Neither does the 4S. For a lower price I have a phone that does more than I need.
    3. Would you ever consider it?
I consider all phones when I come to upgrade. I am tempted by Windows Phone at the moment.
    4. What Apple products do you own?
An iMac and a few iPods

Why don't you want to upgrade to iPhone?

I use a regional carrier, and they didn't even get the iPhone until Nov. of last year. Plus, I don't like iOS very much and I like being able to tinker with my phone.

    Would you ever consider it?

Maybe. I've had this phone for 2+ years of abuse, and it is showing its age. Sadly, my carrier seems to have blown all their money on the iPhone, since they haven't released a new Android or Windows Phone model in months. I will need a new phone soon, and it's coming down to a choice between device and carrier. I like my carrier, but if they don't release something soon, my choices will be iPhone with them or switch carriers.

What Apple products do you own?

2009 Mini, Early 2011 13" MBP, iPod Classic. I sold everything else.

Just to chime in on the #3:

For any of you that live in the US and would like a prepaid iPhone, there are a couple of options (that I know of; there may be more):
    1. AT&T's GoPhone. Works w/o a hitch, but will cost around $50/month for something pretty limited.
    2. StraightTalk. This is THE way to go for a prepaid iPhone (IMHO). My wife uses ST with a 3GS; for $45/month we get unlimited minutes, texts, and data (well, supposedly it'll be throttled around 2-3GB). Can't beat the price and the service is fine, too (uses AT&T GSM). Only real catch is that you have to change the iPhone's APN setup; easy to do with iPhone Configuration Utility, but could be daunting to a non-techie.
