I'm completely mystified by Apple's strategy with the Apple TV.

Why they've not released a new model with an App store a long time ago makes no sense. Open this up, bring it to par with IOS.

I love my Apple TV. I've had them since gen 1. But they've essentially abandoned it.

And I hope they're not wasting time on the Apple TV. I don't want to pay for an Apple branded big screen. Just give me the box and I'll buy apps and movies and tv shows and other content from app providers.

Seriously, mystified.

What would be the value of an app store? I've never understood this. Games, maybe, but not without a real controller. I can only see there being a flood of crappy iPhone ports that nobody would want to use on their TV over just using their phone or iPad. The good stuff would be TV channels, and Netflix etc, but none of those organisations need an app store to progress.
