This. My 2018 iPad Pro is so laggy, scrolling is even choppy, I even feel bad selling it to someone for $300 and it’s the cellular model. Apple selling the WiFi only model for $469 is ludicrous.
How can a 4 year old iPad Pro be laggy? Software has barely moved on in that time. Was it laggy when you bought it?

Not that I recall. But four generations old CPU and 4 major OS updates will do that. My usage is probably more resource-intensive than most peoples. 4 years of life is still pretty good. The next model with the major redesign will not be here until 2024.

Remember the A12X that powers this 2018 Pro gets almost the same Geekbench multi core score as the newest iPhone 14 Pro. So unless Apple purposely gimped it, it will be supported for a long time. 4GB Ram may be an issue for some but i'm using stage manager with 16.1 just fine. You are not missing out much.

oi I thought this was 2021 model. Never mind lol
I’m wishing for the M1 to show up in the Apple refurb store, too! The $849 price for 256g on Amazon is tempting tho, if not just to use it through their extended holiday return period. I could get the M2 thru Apple for the same price, but I’m waiting for them to start their holiday shopping return extension promotion, too.

I've had a 2018 11” iPP since day one and it still feels stupid fast. What Apps do you use that feel slow?

ThinkOrSwim from TD Ameritrade, over 1000 rows x 25 columns updating at 1s intervals, usually with video playing in the background, and using Safari and Messages. Next week I’ll be able to do a side-by-side comparison.

I have a 2020 11" iPad Pro with a cracked screen. Apple will take care of it (replace it) for $500 or $550. I was hoping the new release would be a little better to make it worth jumping up two model years. I rather not replace what I have with the same one. Might look at the 2021 because I don't think I want to keep using this for two years.

I went ahead and ordered one of these refurb 2018s. My 2028 is dying but the updated models don’t do it for me. I considered getting am M1 version but it would mean biting a new keyboard too. This should tide me over until the next round of updates.

Anyone else have the front camera fail on them? After a minute on a video call the camera starts flashing and then turns dark green. Also one of the speakers now just outputs white noise. Too bad, it’s otherwise been a good device.

After seeing the new iPads. This is probably the best option out there. It's basically brand new.
My 2018 11 refurbished is still going strong. Screen is great, smooth and bright. This is the best deal imho. For general use this 2018 will last until either the screen fails or apple stops supporting the software. When that time comes it’ll be a glorified notebook.
Heck out 2018 12.9 is also great and acts as a 2nd screen for work.

Insurance is the solution for high cost repairs

M1 doesn’t need a new keyboard vs 2018 model.

Probably not in the Apple refurb store. You might find something similar from other ”refurb” vendors. Checkout https://www.refurb.me/ for refurbished prices from multiple sources.

Thanks. Backmarket has some good prices on 2020 models but I’m assuming you don’t get a new battery and body like you do with direct from Apple refurbs?

Weird…I use my 2017 iPad Pro all day (including rn) and it is great for normal email/web/Discord stuff. And it streams video as well as my iPhone 13 Pro.
