whatever happened to that slim tapered iphone 5 mockup that was floating around? or will we not see that until next year?
It was the figment of someone's overly active imagination (Josh Topolsky, who has a very questionable track record), not an official image from Apple Inc.

Please remember that most Apple rumors end up being incorrect.

Any random slob can fire up Photoshop and whip up a farcical iPhone design.

Read what he said.

I did.

There is no reason why they cannot name the iPhone that comes out after the iPhone 4GS (if that is what they call it) the iPhone 5.

iPhone = 1
iPhone 3G = 2
iPhone 3GS = 3
iPhone 4 = 4
iPhone 4S = 5
iPhone 5= 6
iPhone 5S= 7

Companies do it all of the time. Get over it.

I think the next move will be 4G (not 4S), followed by a 4GS (if necessary) then onto the 5...

I'm sorry, but calling the *seventh* iPhone an "iPhone 5" is one of the sillier ideas.

So there could be an iPhone 4S, iPhone 4GS, iPhone 4GSXL, iPhone 4GSXXL, iPhone 4GSXXL Nano, iPhone 4GSSX, and then in 2017, the iPhone 5 finally comes out! Is that how this works? Perfect logic.

I mean, the fourth iPhone was called (amazingly), "iPhone 4". So obviously the iPhone 5 could only be the 7th, 8th, or 23rd iPhone. But certainly not the fifth iPhone released. That would make too much sense.

Actually, maybe the next iPhone will be called "iPhone 3", just to REALLY shake things up.

Completely agree.

It's ridiculous how people are calling it the iPhone 4S, when just some random developer named it that. That developer shares the same mentality as some people on this thread..

Regardless, the biggest thing to make me upgrade was a bigger screen. I was hoping for anywhere between 3.7" to 4" screen. I will be pretty disappointed if there's no screen size increase.

I'm not on anything...

It wouldn't make since to call the sixth generation iPhone an iPhone 5 though.

Sure it would to 99.999% of the world.

Naming a product is a *marketing* thing not a *technical* thing.

You are thinking about this backwards.

iPhone 5

-Needs a bigger screen (4 inches?)
-Dual-core is basically definite
-Should have LTE, but not gonna happen.

I don't see how they can market "Dual-core" without the casual consumers raising questions, then going for the cheaper iPhone 4.

That's true. But, why not call the fourth gen iPhone, iPhone 3?

Who cares what they name it?

Naming it iphone 5 doesn't mean it's going to all the sudden magically have bigger improvements than if they name it 4S. It's going to have whatever Apple decides they want to put in it this year no matter what name Apple gives it. What influences the name is marketing, not what the phone has in it.

OmniVision sensor? Wasn't Sony supposed to be supplying the sensors?

As long as iPhone 4S has:

A5 CPU/GPU
1GB RAM
64GB model
8MP camera
Better front camera(2MP would be nice)

I'll get it.

Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth 3.0 that iOS actually takes advantage of would be a good icing.

3G is terrible, i hope that the next iPhone has 4G.
i guess im too used to the fast speeds that wifi offers.

Sadly I think it will be a 4S - just a faster proc, bigger screen, maybe better battery life and more storage.

iOS 5 will be the bigger change.

...the 3G and 3GS crowd will say that the 3G network is the greatest thing to ever happen to man and anything beyond it would just be shameless excess...

Bull. I've got a 4, not planning on getting a new iphone til next year, and honestly I wouldn't care if it didn't get LTE because I agree with some other poster, AT&T is going to make you go to a tiered plan for whatever iphone gets LTE and for me, LTE isn't worth it, 3G is good enough and keeping my unlimited is more worth it.

The 2012 iphone better have some really good stuff (or not have LTE or have AT&T miraculously let me grandfather my unlimited) or I'm going to be annoyed I'm losing my unlimited. Actually, depending on how much better it is than the 2011 if getting the 2012 means I lose my unlimited and it is not significantly faster than the 2011 (or have some really nifty bonuses) I may either keep my 4 or buy a 2011.

4LTE Connection

I have an iPhone 4. Waiting patiently for NEW one. Just read an article that VZW has deciated a new industry to 4LTE and autos, with 5 auto makers jumping on the bandwagon-(BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Toyota). Does that mean, at present, a 4LTE woon't connect to your car?
