Hi everybody

I'm new to this kind of forums but i thought i should share some of my results with u here cause i fill like some of u are over excited about their machines:)
so I run the test on my new mac pro 2.66 and also a new 24" imac and finally my poor but lovely 15" powerbook 1.33 they are all running 10.4.8

Mac pro 2.66/2g/500wd/256m NVIDIA 7300

CS2: 1:02
CS3: 36 sec

24" imac 2.16/2g/250g/128m NVIDIA 7300

CS2: 1:55
CS3: 58 sec

15" Powerbook G4 1.33/1g/60(4200rpm)/64m ATI9700

CS2: 6:55
when connected to an external firewire800 as scratch the result was 6:12

I still have 1.8 Dual G5 untested and next week I'm buying a macbook so next week I can give u a full list of benchmarks.
I just want to tell u that the Mac pro is so fast that it runs CS2 like the 24" imac running CS3 as u can see from the results (only 4sec difference) also worth mentiong that the powerbook did run well until the Gaussian blur action which took him almost 3 minutes to finish:( but maybe its a ram issue.

Yeah, It's a ram issue. My MBP has 1gb of ram also, and it slows wayyyyyy down once it gets to the gaussian blur, not to mention the HDD starts going insane. It blazes through everything else though..

L3 really does help!

I recently installed the CHUD developer tools which let you disable things like L3, L2, one of the cpu on a dual system etc.

I have always wondered how effective L3 really was so I disabled it then ran this test. After this I re-enabled it and ran the test again.

Photoshop 8 (CS 1) running on a G4 MDD Dual 867

L3 deactivated 2:07

L3 active 1:46

So I guess we know L3 really does help when working with large files. It shaved 21 seconds off the time which is a lot when you're only dealing with approximately a 2 minute time frame. Saving 21 seconds on one action would save 1-2 hours a day when doing heavy photoshop work.

Thought I would share..

Tested with CS3 and got 17.8 seconds.

Pretty nice for my system, I think:

Core 2 Duo @ 3GHz (4MB L2, 1333MHz FSB)
4GB DDR2-833MHz
Samsung T166 320GB (7200RPM, 16MB cache)
Windows Vista 64-bit

My Mac Pro 2.66 with a measly 1gb of memory only got 22.6 seconds... then Photoshop CS2 crashed.

I guess I really need to get some more ram.

Prepare To Bow Down To The Mighty Octo-Core Mac Pro!

Haven't seen this thread in awhile, and yes, someone please try this with their 8 core Mac Pro :)

I will have access to one of these babies in the next week or so, and will
report (if nobody beats me to it). I just tested a 2.66 base-model at 11 sec.
My 2 Ghz Macbook came in at 29 sec, the same as the one above (slightly
faster than my 2 Ghz iMac G5, which ran it in 1:40). ;)

Ladies And Gentlemen: We Have a Winner!!

Here's the mighty, top-of-the line Mac Pro 8-core:

My friend just got this baby, and we made a screenshot movie (Snapz Pro)
after setting everything up and dragging the horse to the upper-right of the
screen. The vid is the actual size (408 X 358). The test starts when the menu-
clock hits zero. For some reason, the progress bar did not appear...

3 hours, 2 minutes, 3 seconds.

PowerBook Duo 2300c
100mhz PowerPC 603e
56mb RAM
2.0gb Hard Drive
Adobe Photoshop 5.5

It really puts it into perspective to think that what ten years ago took 3 hours, 2 minutes, and 3 seconds on a PowerBook Duo now takes 10 - 20 seconds on a MacBook Pro.

Amazing... And do we have more free time?? What's the speed for:confused:

I thought that was odd myself...Anyway, here's what the System Profiler shows:

8corehs3.jpg

The serial # is unusual too. It normally starts with 2 letters (Factory code) + year of manufacture i.e. "6" + week within that years i.e. "30" = So it should be something like YM630XXXXXX

But It's FAST!
