I had fun

got to play with the new 2.7, and Tiger. I am glad I took the time to go. I met some nice people in line, and the store employees were great at helping me learn some of the new features.

I have already used automator to resize over 40 digital photos on my G5!! I didn't go in having high expectations, and completed my visit very happily.

I won and 1GH iPod Shuffle and the funny thing is, I was going there to buy one along with Tiger and iLife 5. The trip to Stanford Shopping center was well worth it.

Some of the employees were scary nice. A really cute asian girl works there though.

Guess I went to the wrong store. I was choosing between going to the shopping center or the Palo Alto store. I just got a free iTMS download and didn't see any cute asian girls ;-)

I guess I should be happy that Stanford has two apple stores within biking distance...

Where is everyone tongiht? Are they all at some Apple Store? By now we should have had a couple hundred posts.

I think many are still upset about the dismal PowerMac update. I know I am and I suspect Steve Jobs is also upset with IBM>

Underwhelmed as well!

Cherry Creek Colorado was no good. If I didn't know that it was a special day for Apple before I walked in, I never would have known. No large scale demos or giveaways. Everyone got 10% or itunes, but as far as I know there were no ipod or powerbook winners. Their stack of scratch cards was way too large.
I convinced 3 friends to come along and they are still dissapointed in me.
Com'on Apple.

I was surprised there were no free Tiger gifts, but I was happy to save $87 on my new Mac mini (which came with a Tiger disk).

Tons of people at the SF Apple store. I was about 25th in line and was able to get in and out in 10 minutes. By the time I left, the place was packed and the check-out lines were huge.

Guys, I'm going to be honest. I was really disappointed today. They gave away SO many prizes, and I got THREE tickets, and in those tickets... Two 10% offs and 1 free iTunes song. I wanted a prize. Some freakin' hardware. :(

Just woke up after crashin at 9. I labored on going to the Apple Store or going camping on the St Johns River. We chose the latter and I'm writing from my tent on my Treo 650.

I feared I missed out on a free beer, iMac updated w/10 percent off and a large breasted hot chick as the sales person. Instead you got the hard core Mac/Star Wars guys saying it sucked! Sounds as if I made the correct decision. Now back to sleep!

Underwhelming launch party...

At the Palo Alto store I waited in line maybe 15 minutes (it was about 1/2 block long). Went in, was handed a scratch ticket. Won an iTunes song which I didn't use.

As I scratched off my ticket an Apple employee sarcastially remarked, "well did you win the lottery?". That put me in a bad mood... I then looked around and didn't see any T-shirts, which put me in a worse mood.

I then played with Tiger a little, mostly with Dashboard, and was disappointed. I may be missing something, but it seems you can't use your Dashboard widgets side by side with full blown apps. By that I mean, if you are in Dashboard world and click on a normal application or finder window, all the Dashboard widgets disappear! To get Dashboard widgets back you have to click on the Dashboard icon in the dock...

I've gone to all the launch events, and up till now was so enthused each time that I either bought the OS in the store because I couldn't wait, or ordered online the same day to get my government discount.

Waiting in line for an OS release is a somewhat insane thing to do... the t-shirts lent a feeling of being part of something, and compensated in some way. I guess Apple feels that it doesn't need to build community these days.

Anyway, I feel no urgency to go out and get Tiger now... I probably will eventually, but no big rush.

Anyone read the Quicktime HD requirements? DAMN!

For 1280x720 (720p) video at 24-30 frames per second:
1.8 GHz PowerMac G5 or faster Macintosh computer
At least 256 MB of RAM
64 MB or greater video card
For 1920x1080 (1080p) video at 24-30 frames per second:
Dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5 or faster Macintosh computer
At least 512 MB of RAM
128 MB or greater video card

Was wondering why my G5 was stuttering a bit on the 1080p videos.

I almost went the PA store, but I figure parking was going to be terrible and there would be a lot more people. There were maybe 15 to 20 people waiting at the shopping center. A lot of people in that store one shuffles.

Did he have short blonde hair and blue eyes. There's one guy ther that does and he's a real jerk. I think he thinks he's funny, but he's really a jackass... I keep hoping their can him.. I know it's a terrible thing to say, but he's rude.

Probably not a lot of people excited by this, but I am. I was going to hold off on Tiger, now I guess I am going to be buying it tomorrow.

:)

I won't be upgrading to Tiger for a while (gotta wait for any issue to be ironed out), so I'm missing out on J2SE1.5 . It is actually a pretty big disapointment that it isn't released for 10.3. It is becoming stable and widely adopted enough so that you are starting to need it.
Guess I'll have to upgrade sooner than I thought.

I went to the Tiger event prepared to walk out with a my first Mac, a decked out Mini using the 10% discount everyone said would be in effect.

Instead I got a free itunes song. Big whoop. And they wouldn't give me another card.

What a complete waste. They give 10% discounts to people who have no interest in buying anything, and me wanting to spend a thousand dollars can't get the discount. All it does is create ill will.

Then why didn't you trade or ask one of those people for their card??!!

Jeeze. Apple events are social. Talk to people and you will be suprised. If you asked the sales person for the discount with a Mini in hand I'll bet they would have given it to you as they did others on this forum.

Wow! That is kinda hefty. My PowerBook (and current models for that matter) won't be able to handle that :( , which means Apple needs to update them immediately.

Come on G5 PowerBook. :D

awesome release

i'm a bit surprised at some of the comments, i guess its because this is the first time i've been to an apple release event

the umass mac user group went down to the chestnut hill mall apple store, and we definitely enjoyed it cuz it got us off the umass campus :)

i enjoyed it cuz i won iWork '05 :D :D

the store was packed. i've never seen so many people at that store. no line outside, but we got there a bit late

yeah. off to bed now…

You guys shouldn’t complain... we don’t have a official Apple store in SA, all we got was 50 lousy copies in total for the store, a nice pat on the back with that "give me the cash now" look!

I got me a free t-shirt!

Okay it was my first apple store party/opening thingie event ever.
I was at the opening of the Bullring store England and it was rammed to the gills. The t-shirts must have been imported from the US as they are HUGE!
Believe me I could wrap up an entire muslim family in one alone (including several wives) and still have room to hide a powerbook up there and try to walk out undetected. Also got a 10% voucher which I didn't end up using. I wasn't planning on buying anything... Just see what the store was like. It's nice but small, but nice.... and small.
Oh and got a look at a setup with 2 30inch displays side by side....... If only I had the money.

I hit the Cherry Creek and Aspen Grove stores in Colorado. I was at Cherry Creek for the opening, and there was a pretty big line. Once in, the place was so packed you could barely move. Still, the folks behind the registers did a great job of keeping the lines moving, and everyone was very friendly. I only got a couple of free songs, but it's more than I had when I went in. The only disappointment is that they didn't do the edu discount in-store.

As always, my favorite thing about being in an Apple store is helping people while I wander around looking at things. I caught a few questions tonight. It's nice to be able to help.

I was at the newport beach store today. my friend's cousin won the powerbook from the scratch card. Damn lucky if you ask me.
Anyways, I can't believe I stood in line and all i got was a free song from iTunes =).

Now I have to decide what song I should download for free?

Any suggestions?

To add a dashboard widget outside the dashboard area, click and drag the widget icon in the add widget tray, hit F12 and drop it on the desktop.

Come on guy!
why are people put negative comments when you got someting for free!
I live 300 miles from my nearest Apple store so just getting there to stand in line was out of the question and I've bought Tiger it's going to get here on the 3rd I wonder whether Apple will send my a scratch card because I live out side a 50 mile radius of an Apple store? ( I hope uncle Steve's reading this forum )

Here is a photo of the queue outside the Apple Store London 15 minutes before the doors opened. Very nice atmosphere. I was about so far back in the queue that my spot is not even in this photo yet I still out the door with my copy of Tiger by 6.20.

1st time at one of these, and the line partially trailed down one mall corridor around 6:15, and was filled by 6:45.

Entered by 7:10, and the guy at the door mistook me temporarily for a walk-by rather than a liner, having me wonder if I should've asked for a Tiger handout card. Realizing that I was one of four singles allowed in...

... as usual, it was hot inside from the close-in walls of the boutique-style store (Mayfair Mall, WI), and many were eyeballing Tiger. My scratchoff offered an iTune (I selected a song from "The Producers"); a liner a few steps in front of me got a FREE iWork, another a few steps behind a FREE iPod; in all the excitement, I forgot to buy what I came in for: a Final Cut Express upgrade (it now includes the previously $300 Soundtrack) for $99.

I wandered back to the Barnes&Noble store (opposite end of mall; only place I could find parking) for an OJ and back home.

Worth it? For the fun of it all -- most certainly!
