Well, after seeing the concerns about the magsafe wallet falling off easily when going in/out a pocket I decided to try and make my own, and improve the design.

It works beautifully, secures strongly, and figured it would be worth it to you all.

I added my own magnet array and shielded the cards from getting damaged.

My first version had the same issues as Apples. While it attached firmly, a bump vertically could slip the magnets out of alignment and cause it to jump off.
Magnets resist forces parallel to the magnetism really well but perpendicular forces are its downfall.

My solution was to add friction, with something called MicroSuction tape.
I purchased a sheet of this magical stuff and it has adhesive on one side (sticking to the leather) and tiny suction cup-like surface on the other.

Magnetizes strong and lightly suctions to back stoping any sliding. Still easy to overpower the magnets when intended, like when wanting to use MagSafe charge.

Apple should be contacting you any day now with either a job offer or a cease and desist order.
;)
Ha!
I wonder if Apple didn't give themselves enough time to play with the accessory options for this yet.
For example, their MagSafe charger would benefit from less magnetism or more weight (enough to align and but not stick when phone is lifted while checking time during the night)

The wallet is better with stronger magnetism and a higher friction on back.

A car mount needs the strongest magnets to hold it vertically, a magnets weakness.

I am impressed!! What are you going to charge for them ;-) might be a Buyer for black...

Could you just add the micro suction tape to Apple’s wallet?

The tape should also work nicely to keep you MagSafe charger attached to the desk. I believe a dock I used for my phone and iPad used it and it stuck to the furniture but was amazingly still useable moving it a bunch of times. It really is magical.

What did you use to shield the credit cards?
Looks great. I definitely think you could seriously think about making and selling some, maybe on Etsy.

Per Apples design recommendations in their doc for accessory makers, they recommend a low carbon steel for protection, I added an RFID blocker card to the zincplated steel.
Basically, i cut a credit card shaped piece of sheet steel and have the same size rfid blocker between the magnets and my cards.

Thanks for the info. I might try this myself with a different color leather.
How thick are the magnets you used? I want to see about getting some thin discs. (0.5 mm or so)

You can try that but I don’t think it’ll have the hold you’re looking for (unless you go with really thin weight leather)
The microsuction tape could make up for it tho.

These are 2mm thick.
I had 1mm magnets at first but it wasnt as strong as I wanted.

Oh thanks. I was planning to get some 1 mm magnets for another project and was hoping I could use some for this as well. I may try and see what happens. Either way, I’ll probably use microsuction tape like you did.

I’ve ordered one. Very long delivery time on it but I’m in no rush. I will be able to have an Apple Wallet on my 11 pro when it comes.

seems like if apple brought out a silicone wallet, it'd work fine with the silicone phone case
