No way. The Apple Watch is IMPORTANT at Apple. Like most Apple devices, every year it adds at least one killer feature. It did. But when I see what they came up with in the first generation and compare it to what we have now, I can't help noticing that there's hardly any progress. It feels like they've implemented an early vision of Steve and since then just refine a bit here and there but never actually think what this device (software/UI) could be capable of with six more years of technology under the hood.
Still a great device though. But that hockey puck has been left at the face-off spot ever since it was put there.
I believe that the Watch is to Health and Fitness what the iPod was to Music consumption and what the iPhone was to cellphones (although admittedly to a MUCH lesser impact than those two devices). Similar, single-function devices existed before it, but Apple's take on one changed the game.
We're seeing legit Dick Tracy tech in these devices, and Apple will only continue to refine and expand that device's capabilities. And the fact that it integrates like it does into the ecosystem makes it a surprisingly valuable asset in Apple's arsenal. There's a reason Apple is pushing the Health app, the Fitness+ service, GPS and Cellular connectivity, etc.
As I get older, the Watch becomes more and more attractive. And the active youth of today can see the appeal immediately.
The iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, and even AirTags combo is a knockout for almost everyone, no Mac required.
The Post-PC era really is here, and that's where the puck ended up. Sorry Mac fans, but it is what it is.
