When I get home, I'm going to use SuperDuper! Smart Update from my EDIT: [internet-disconnected] booted bootable disk containing Mojave before this update, and turn off all macOS updating.

So there!

Running Catalina for dev work (iOS), luckily I've had no major issues except external displays sometimes acting weird after waking from sleep.

Sucks for the enterprise environment, and us Jamf admins. I'm still waiting on my management to provide final approval so that I can start deploying Catalina upgrades through JSS, even though we've been running it for months on all the 16-inch Mac's that we've purchased. This morning there have already been 5 emails sent to me by our Service Desk from users asking if they should upgrade, since they now see its available. I've got a policy to restrict the upgrade, but it was nice not having users see it.

Wow even while you’re in the middle of working?
I watch deadmau5 streams and the comments are always saying he got restarted from Windows updates so that kinda makes sense ¿
It will install the update then give you a restart pop up. You can click not to restart now but the problem is if you're not at your desk you better not have any open files because it will restart. I used to work in an office and nothing like the boss coming back to his computer to find the spreadsheet he spent hours on didn't save when it restarted 😂

In Windows 10, you can even uninstall security updates in case they cause issues. I had to do this recently when a Windows update caused issues with my eGPU attached to my MacBook Pro when using Boot Camp. I just rolled back the update, restarted and my eGPU was working again. Next I modified my registry to disable automatic Windows updates.

If Apple forces updates AND doesn’t allow uninstalling them, that’s a nasty combo.

Normally I would agree that it's good to be on the latest software version due to security updates and such, but Catalina is a BIG exception because Apple has deprecated 32-bit software and a lot of people may be staying on Mojave to run said software.

In THIS PARTICULAR CASE Apple should provide the ability to defer the Catalina update, at least until Mojave stops receiving security updates. A LOT of people are staying on Mojave because they have no choice if they want to keep running their important software.

running 10.14.6 on my Hackintosh, and it runs like butter. I do hate having a restart window everytime I log in.
just go away. Incidentally, I was going to try Catalina on my backup partition today, but it fails to install on restart, so oh well. My Windows 10 Pro experience so far has been flawless. It's just too bad the GUI looks the same as it
did 30 years ago.

I have no issue with Apple (or Microsoft) compelling the installation of critical security updates. People skipping over those is a major cause of security breaches. But for major version upgrades like Catalina? No. People may be careless, but they know what they want.

Come on, Apple, just make good software. You can do that. You used to do that all the time.

If you made stable, functional software with features people actually want, they will beat a path to your door. You wouldn't have to drag them kicking and screaming.

Apple has given software devs years of notifications to fix their apps. If apps are still on 32 bit it's because the devs have abandoned it. Unfortunately devs will make software and not do updates but still sell it. At some point they have to update their OS. From my understanding you still have the ability to say no you don't want to install updates and you can turn off automatic updates.

Sorry, Apple. I'm not touching Catalina with a 10 foot pole. I've read and heard too many horror stories. This will be the first macOS release I've skipped entirely since becoming a Mac user in 2008.
I’ve been running Catalina in public beta for a long time. I have had 0 problems. That is Z E R O.

i’d bet 98% of all macos users never ever executed the softwareupdate command on the CLI. neither do they know what the —extra means at the end

Sorry Tim, I’m not going to upgrade to the Catalina Experience. I don’t want Apple Music (a service I don’t use and never will shoved down my throat. I also don’t want Apple TV+ trash shoved in my face either.

I bought the product and I don’t want advertising on my operating system. Already annoying on Mojave. The bugs present in Catalina ad the fact that my 2014 MBP works just fine and continues to receive security updates for the time being isn’t going to incentivize me. Once there are no more security updates, I’ll be forced to upgrade. Hopefully Catalina’s successor will be much better
The music app can handle your music the same way iTunes did without you needing to subscribe to Apple Music and Apple TV+ isn't advertised in the OS. It's just an app that you never have to open if you don't want to. Such minor things to complain about.

At certain extent, you can defer updates in Windows 10, especially in Enterprise environment where updates can be avoided as long as needed. At least MS offer option. I put my Windows 10 machine in similar manner and it good to go without so much horror issues.
You know nothing John snow, just turn off auto updates. Then it will just let you know they are available. You kindof like the 5000 or so mandatory security updates on windows every week
