Apple is doing my head in these days.

Just after they screw our iPhones with that damn ‘No longer shared’ bug, they announce this.

Wouldn’t it be better if they just made better damn software which meant we wanted to download the latest and greatest version.

For over 10 years I downloaded patches and new releases without a second thought, but now I cross my fingers and hope the bugs won’t be too bad. I don’t trust Apple’s software quality at all now, and this nagging move doesn’t inspire confidence that things are going to improve.

There's still no way to tell Windows not to automatically install updates. You can pause them for a week now but if you just want to only manually update that's not possible.

This is untrue. You can either delay feature updates in one year intervals or security updates in one month intervals. You can also just turn all updates off completely. I mean, it's a terrible idea, and Win10 runs really well on even older hardware, but you could do it if you really have some software that you can't risk breaking.

Oh this is not going to go over well with our IT department. They have been hiding the upgrade to Catalina from users so far, if this is what they were using and suddenly half the company upgrades... fun times
I've gotta ask... why are they allowing users to be admins? Apple's also gone full-on with a user having to be logged in in order to do updates, so it shouldn't be able to happen.

Umm you need to tell my Windows PC this 😂 😂
You need to go to Settings -> Windows Update -> Advanced options.
See the attached screenshot
PS: you can also tell windows not to restart automatically your machine after installing the update, or set a time of the day for the reboot to happen.

Sounds like a trivial point. The iOS “bug” was pretty minor. It would be good to get the full reason. Probably a security or signing issue, or use of outdated embedded dll or something. I agree I’d rather not see it (it did not happen to me), but hard to whine about something where you don’t know the cause. Especially with creepy developers stealing data and all

Damn, I would still be on MOJAVE if I wasn't forced to use Catalina when I got my new MacBook Pro 16". I definitely noticed a lot more bugs. Even little things like my display resolution changing when I restart my computer and not saving my settings. Pretty frustrating stuff.

Dear Apple,

MacOS has been on a steady decline for several years. The amount of bugs that cause work-stoppage (or even work-loss in some cases) has become too risky for me and my business. For that reason, I have remained on High Sierra and all of my Macs are on High Sierra today.

The fact that every day you throw an upgrade pop-up in my face and the face of my employees while we are trying to get production work completed on tight deadlines is aggravating. If you continue to be hard-headed about this, it will be another piece of the Jinga tower removed and is one step closer to bringing it all down.

I left Microsoft in 2006 because Apple was different. Apple was refreshingly different in fact. And while no software in the world is bug-free and I get that, the user-experience has been going sharply downhill over the last 3 years or so. Please slow down and allow your programmers and developers to create operating systems that have better vetting and quality control. If needed, please go to a 2-year OS cycle. And start thinking more about the user experience and how your daily reminders to update are perceived.

Remember, the magic is in the details...

Also, aren’t auto updates turned off?

Sucks for the enterprise environment, and us Jamf admins. I'm still waiting on my management to provide final approval so that I can start deploying Catalina upgrades through JSS, even though we've been running it for months on all the 16-inch Mac's that we've purchased. This morning there have already been 5 emails sent to me by our Service Desk from users asking if they should upgrade, since they now see its available. I've got a policy to restrict the upgrade, but it was nice not having users see it.
Zero touch and automatic enrollment is broken on some new MacBook Air's. You have to wipe then reinstall.
Also, it's hard to to deploy the free apps like Pages, iMovie, etc.
Get it together, Apple.

I'm sure people who go to the troubles of changing these settings have a valid reason not to upgrade.
Especially with macOS 10.15, which no longer support 32 bits apps. I know some people who can't upgrade it because they are still using software for their daily professional job that wouldn't run on the latest OS.

Meanwhile I'm still finding Safari won't load certain websites fully in Mojave. So why don't I believe Catalina to be the OS Promised Land? Oh yeah...

Well, its time for much more advanced tactics to purposefully damage or even destroy mac update system to make sure I use my High Sierra until my Mac dies.

I dont know who says apple never “nag user endlessly and beg for update”, but here we are. I think the reason behind it is because of iOS 13.5 jailbreak. Bad image for sure but forcing upgrade on production machine isn’t going to earn apple any favour either. But, would they care? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Despite all the whining and complaints, at least Microsoft has Windows 10 Enterprise and LTSB for people who needs not caring about new features. Yes, license is difficult to obtain (MSDN is probably the easiest for personal user), but at least the option is there. Apple? Nope.

Time to destroy macOS update system then. Too bad that I can no longer go back to Sierra.

I have this selected. It doesn't even ask if you want to install updates. It only gives you a restart prompt after it automatically installs the updates. If you're not at your desk when it pops up oh well you better not have anything open you wanted.

We are in a quandary. Our teachers use PrintShop Pro, which isn't 64 bit. And the alternatives for the easy to use publishers w/ clip art is almost zero. I found one, but it's horrible to use.

They make money by churning computers. The reason MacOS is free is because it allows them to do this crap.
Nobody would pay money for new versions of MacOS, especially with how crappy they've been.

When software is given away for free and constantly nags you to install it - nothing good in the long run can come from that

It's so annoying. I wish I can hit a "dismiss" button, but the only options are details and update.

I'll get to the update eventually, stop nagging me.

Maybe, but I don't understand why they wouldn't just run some virtualization software with an old version of MacOS. It might not work for some really obscure stuff, but I bet most people holding out because they have some random app could still do it.
