I’m playing with Apple Maps on my work drives this week. Today I see the option to mark police or hazards. I tested with a hazard and nothing showed on the maps app. I am using CarPlay.

is there a delay before it’s shown? This is a beta so understand bugs are probable. With waze there pin is marked/visible almost instantly(within 1-3 sec) on my CarPlay or phone screen

Because Apple Maps has your position at the bottom of the screen, by the time you mark the spot, it has already moved off the screen.

I noticed this as well and simply zoomed out after marking a hazard and it is indeed where I marked it.

Even with the updated “cancel/report” window that now comes up, the marker still is positioned exactly where you first note the event. The “cancel/report” is simply there for cancelling or confirming your report within the 3-5 seconds they give you to do that. Or do nothing and the report will go through when the time runs out.

How though? Apple Maps is not cross platform... you would miss out on a swath of reports from android users. Sadly, Waze will always be the only choice.
It's a matter of numbers...and Waze's share has been dropping and will continue to do so. Think of it this way, in 2018, Apple and Waze had nearly the identical number of active users (about 25 million people...Google Maps, 5x that or more)...and that was BEFORE Apple introduced its own mapping data and all of the new features. Evene cross-platform, Waze couldn't keep up.

Since then, Google has taken practically all of the key features (outside of crowd-sourced mapping) from Waze while Waze has not really made any drastic changes. And now Apple Maps is adding the most popular reporting features as well.

In my opinion, Waze will die a slow death (within the next 3-5 years), and unless something dramatic happens in the mapping/software world, even the major car manufacturers will default to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as the main mapping function in their cars versus their lame attempts to integrate their own maps.

Thanks. I’m used to the near instant icon appearance on waze. I usually just go with the “as it opens” zoom. Maybe Apple zooms more than waze upon opening.

Crazy thing is. As big and successful as Apple is. Can’t find 1 website that offer mapping with Apple Maps. Always Google maps. They are the standard. And cross platform. Would love to see Apple Maps or even waze offered on websites.

It does...and yeah, it bothered me at first. But with the new "cancel/report" window, it at least let's you know that you reported something, even if it is already behind you off the screen.

The first few days just reported the incident and you couldn't see it on the screen unless you zoomed out.

I HAVE to think that is coming more and more. It is certainly the default on iOS devices (Facebook, Instagram, etc) in most cases.

If Apple opens up Maps as a cross-platform website, that will go a LONG way in adoption. I'm so hopeful it is coming one day. I used to love going on the Waze website every once and a while and making corrections to my area. With Apple's rabid fan base, they could have incredible updates to POI's and error reporting for the Map if they let people do those on a computer versus a mobile device.

Maybe they're just waiting until Apple Maps is on owned data in the majority of developed countries? I hope we don't have to wait too long. They could limit access to a Maps website to specific countries if they wanted to.

I’ve been looking for numbers on numbers of users of Google maps Apple Maps and waze. Only data I could find is 2 years old. Google maps 155 million users daily
Waze around 25 million
Apple Maps 23 million.

so waze and am are close. Google is still by far the leader though. 🙁

gonna play with Apple Maps some more but at the moment waze is far more helpful than Apple Maps for people who drive a lot for work or pleasure.

I’m pretty sure it just used to be the map (both map and satellite) and then if you wanted directions/routing it would switch to Bing.
I put in “Adelaide to Melbourne” and it’s showing me an Apple map, with directions.

you can literally try it yourself quicker than replying to tell me what it used to be.

DuckDuckGo search engine uses Apple maps for showing locations.
I tried DDG once didn’t like it. I use Google for searches.

Guess some things will probably never change. Google search using Apple Maps for directions. Not happening any time soon.

I usually just copy to waze.

My response above from two hours ago said I did try it. What I’m trying to clarify is that routing with Apple Maps is a new feature for DDG…yes, it shows Apple Maps for searches, but routing via Apple Maps is new.

I found this amazing life hack so you can’t ever get a speeding ticket, no matter how sneaky the cop is.

what you do is, when driving... you don’t exceed the posted speed limit.
I’ve found quite the opposite. If you speed all the time, you’re still only likely to get a ticket on very rare occasions. When you do, it’ll average out to only a few pennies per trip.

Super weird. The option in not available on my Apple maps any more the icon to report is gone. Any ideas

Still works for me.

You are in an active route?
Ah. I’ll have to check. With waze you can just be driving. Don’t need to have a route picked.

I definitely like the way way Waze does this better. If it’s only available when using an actual route with Apple Maps

thanks for the info. Will check when I’m back on the road.

In Apple Maps, it only works while you have selected or are driving in an active route. The same is true for speed limit signs showing up.

You can check it at anytime by simply selecting directions and then bringing up the map menu from the bottom of your phone screen….I’m still in bed and checked it. Hah

Do you have to be in an active route to see speed trap reports as well?
