Do you have to be in an active route to see speed trap reports as well?

My guess is “yes”…but there are not enough reported at this point (at least in my area) to check.

I have yet to see a reported incident even though I route nearly every trip. I think that’s because my area simply is not populated enough by people on the beta AND reporting.

I also work from home, so not driving as much as I used to.

In Apple Maps, it only works while you have selected or are driving in an active route. The same is true for speed limit signs showing up.

You can check it at anytime by simply selecting directions and then bringing up the map menu from the bottom of your phone screen….I’m still in bed and checked it. Hah

They definitely have to change this to being available when on an active map route. We need this available all the time. I rarely use directions on my car, just the crowd sourcing alerts on Waze.

I have yet to see an alert either and I have reported some. Although, in Google Maps I don’t see alerts either. Waze is still the King of Alerts, although I hope that Apple catches up quickly.

Rebooted phone and all is normal again. 🤷

seems to work fine. Hope to see some warning pop up. I’m still gonna use Waze but we play with it also. They need to make it run while app is just open and active.

FYI…incidents WILL show up on the map whether you are in an active route or not!

EDIT:It looks like what I'm seeing is the standard accident reporting feature that was already in Maps, just the new icon showing up since I'm on 14.5

Have not been able to confirm whether any other incidents (speed trap or hazard....or user reported accidents) will show up on the map when NOT in an active route. Still to be determined.

I marked a police car earlier today and then came back on the same route about 5 mins later. The marked car was not on Apple Maps, so not sure why.

What about speed cameras not on an active route? This is the biggest reason why I keep Waze around.

I use all three major mapping apps making in CarPlay. The thing that Waze has that is really nice is the speedometer display that turns red and dings when you’re speeding above the limit. Plus their crowdsourced data on road hazards, traffic, speed traps, etc, is pretty darn good.

But looking forward to trying Maps.

Because no one confirmed it…that, or Apple simply is not allowing it to show even though it is an option to select since it is technically still in beta.

I’m sure once 14.5 is up locally released this week, you will see them popping up all over the place!

Wait a minute people! Maps will not show incidents that have been reported from Waze.
In order for to Maps wins this battle, Maps will need to be able to display what is reported from Waze.

Since Waze is owned by Google, I think we’ll be booking a ski trip in hell before that happens.

Not that Google wouldn’t be more than happy to share that data with Apple. In exchange for being able to track the location data of every iPhone user. The whole reason Apple Maps exists in the first place is because Apple refused to agree to that nine years ago. I doubt Apple has changed its mind since then.
