Flyover is clearly the missing link between satellite imagery and the street view level that Apple is yet to launch.

When all the system will be in place, the experience will be like magic, resembling a drone view, unlike the poor user experience of today's Google street view (in other ways, a very useful service).

It's almost unbelievable folks continue to bitch about flyover, completely missing the big picture.

i don't get it either. I've never seen so many people bitch about a feature that they don't use. Name any program out there and there are features many people who use the program don't use.

Flyover is much cooler than Street View for exploring a City you have never been to before. With that said, it is likely Apple is working on additional perhaps street view like features because it's vans have been seen all over.

I personally get little use out of street view but would never take the time to complain about it on the basis I don't use it.

What is clear is Apple has not abandoned its Maps application and is working on it actively. That is good.

For what it is worth, I'd like to see route correction based on traffic conditions, and a Waze like social reporting of other issues.

Headline should read, "Apple Creates Another Utterly Pointless Snoring Product".

Who gives a flying poop about this stuff. It's all very pretty at first but such a waste of resources.

The main topic is not what looks dumb here. The main topic is the Maps App. But, thanks for such an insightful opinion anyways.

Google Maps is much more interesting so far.
HE WAS REACTING TO YOUR POST THAT LOOKED LIKE THIS!!!! WHY WERE YOU POSTING IN ALL CAPS WHICH LOOKS DUMB!!!!!

... since you apparently do have the ability to post like a sane person.

I thought capital letters would capture better my feelings of rage, madness, disbelief, a little bit of hunger and a spoonful of carelessnes for grammatic decensy. I apologize also on behalf of other capitalizers. Hopfully one day WE WILL OVERCOME OUR ADDICTION TO CAPITAL LETTERS <-- failure im sory

When you post IN ALL CAPS like that, you should not be offended if people conclude you are a moron. All they have to go on is the available evidence.

I use both, but I find street view much more limited than one would think. First, it's too dangerous to use when I need it the most, which is while driving. I HOPE drivers are not taking their eyes of the road to look at their phones! If I'm driving, I use it before my trip (on my big screen iMac) to get a sense of what I'm looking for wired into my head.

I stopped using Waze BECAUSE of real-time route correction. I like to know my route, and don't like being yelled at by a computer to take sudden right and left turns into the unknown. I like my machines to advise me, not command me.

Capital letters always means shouting. You might head up a document in capital letters, like CURRICULUM VITAE to you say it loud in your head, or use it like OMG (both in a positive way), but to write whole sentences in capitals is just exhausting. It's like being shouted at in an aggressive way.

I don't care for Flyover.

It demonstrates that cities viewed from the air look nothing like they do from the ground. As such, Flyover has no value for me. I don't find it useful or attractive; therefore, what is the point of it? It seems to be there for the sake of it, rather than anything else. I find it a giant waste of resources. If I wish to visit a city, I will go there. Flyover will not make any difference to what cities I visit.

Apple should charge people who want to use it. They would quickly find that no-one finds any value to it, as no-one would pay to use it, in my humble opinion. What a shame it is that Google betrayed Apple, as their maps partnership was perfect when the iPhone came out. The ideal combination would be Apple, Google and Waze for maps.

WTF is in Springfield, MA that warrants a flyover? How is this a priority over Lisbon, Portugal one of the oldest cities in Europe.

Demos are nice. But seriously....it's called Street View....look into it Apple, you know, in your spare time between developing pink hardware and buying lousy music companies. And how about beefing up the 3 year old MacPro already?

I wondered the same thing. There must be some sort of bureaucratic reason why Lisbon hasn't been done yet. For one, Lisbon doesn't even have 3D buildings in maps. This could very well be due to it's poor record keeping. Lisbon city hall doesn't even have a full idea of the buildings in the city. Most of it was built without permits.

From what I understand about Flyover, it captures textures that are then applied to 3D wireframes. Until the city can provide that information to Apple, there can't be Flyover.

And yet Kansas City, MO, which is #30 on the largest metropolitan statistical areas in the United States with 2.1 million people, still isn't supported. What the heck. Omaha? Rochester?

ALLENTOWN??

I mean come on. Even Wichita, KS; Tulsa, OK; and Springfield, MO have freaking Flyover. Springfield of all places! I think at this point they're just trying to troll me because I complain about it every time they update with all these small cities. Are Bartle Hall, the Sprint Center, Arrowhead and Kauffman really so complicated to render that they're holding things up? I don't understand.

I've never brought myself to use anything besides Google Maps. I don't know about Apple Maps and I don't care. The users should be able to compare and contrast them
